not a soccer fan here, how does this work?  Argentina gets ball for the first 45 minutes then the US gets it in the 2nd half?

I didn't get to see a lot of the match because I had a fussy infant and a toddler to get to bed.  I saw the last 30 minutes or so.  I guess that was a blessing.  Even in the last 30 minutes, I found m

Yeah, that is much more likely I agree.

Still a big drop off from Adams but I guess I really need to buy into the idea that we are never going to have all our players healthy at the same time.

This caught my eye...

This was my big takeaway from last night’s game. Of the 03s in @MLS I genuinely think Nyeman — not Clark, Cowell or Pepi — has the highest upside.

Moses Nyeman (17) apparently had a very good game for United last night in central midfield.

I saw a lot of people tweeting about him last night positively.  Hopefully he is that group's Adams.

I'm interested in knowing more about CLARK.  Not many players, at any level, can consistently strike a ball so cleanly from weird angles and off-balance with a snap reaction like I've seen from him two or three times already.

I was talking about the 2003 class a few days ago.  They are arguably ahead of any class before them in terms of getting early pro experience.  Hopefully the development curve continues upward for this group.  None will need to be rushed into senior team so they can take their time and move through the ranks at a normal pace.

@BrianSciaretta

The 2003 birth year is a great class. We've already seen goals from Clark, Cowell, Pepi, Sealy - add in McGlynn, Paredes, Aaronson, Weah, Nyeman (citizenship pending), and Che from abroad - good core. It's a bigger class than the 2002's. I hope the 2023 U-20 cycle starts soon

lets talk a bit more about Adams.

If Adams is not healthy enough for Nations League but does recover in time for Gold Cup, does he get called for Gold Cup to be the defacto leader of that group or does GGG just give him extra time off to get rested and fit for next season (and more importantly the qualifiers)?

I'd think the value of Adams is mostly in having him with the first-23.

The Athletic has a good article on Dike analyzing all 31 of his shots this year.   If you don’t have a subscription here is the conclusion:

How is this guy doing this? Well, the answer is that Dike’s movement, physicality, and right-footed, right-sided shots have helped him cause major problems for opposing Championship defenses. Over time, he’ll need to become more selective with his shot locations and grow more comfortable shooting with his left foot to continue elevating his game. But even still, wherever he ends up after his loan spell with Barnsley, Dike has the technique, spatial awareness, and physical frame to continue taking threatening shots – and scoring goals.

Ederson not starting for Man City against Newcastle today,  but it's Scott Carson instead of Steffen getting the nod. Let's speculate wildly and baselessly about Steffen's future based on this.

Is it a team full of scrubs?

(HAHAHA - kidding.  There are no scrubs at City.)

Steffen has played in 12 games this year.  Carson has not played a minute.  He is 35 and this may be just a nod to him for being a good soldier all season on the bench.

Today is his first EPL game in a decade.  His loan is up when the season is over.

None of this is wild or baseless. 😢

Speaking of dual nats, who can we officially cap tie for good against Honduras?

Dike, Gio and Musah come to mind.

Is Dest official yet?  Dest announced shortly before Covid hit so I am unsure he ever played in a real game.

Dest IS cap tied.  Happened in Nov. 2019... god it’s been a long time since we’ve played a REAL game.

Gio, Musah, believe it or not... Weah.

Sarge starting for Werder who have a man advantage. Huge 3 points if they can capitalize.

Absolute disaster for Bremen today to go a man up early and lose 2-0.

wow that is so bad :(

They no longer control their own fate.

One game left, Werder play Monchengladbach, Armenia play Stuggart.  I believe both Stuggart and and Gladbach are shooting for the last Europa spot.

Losing both Sargent and Hoppe to Bundie 2 would not be great :(

Juventus with a gut check win today over Inter.  Juventus Down a man for the last 35 minutes of the match but they won 3-2 to keep them alive for Champions League.

Galatasaray defeat Yeni Malatyaspor 3-1 but finish 2nd as Besiktas down Goztepe 2-1 with a second half winner. Yedlin was strong again & Galatasaray win their last 6 games for a valiant effort - but are the runners up by only a single goal in goal differential.  You can’t say enough about what a great move DeAndre Yedlin made - leaving Newcastle & moving to Galatasaray where he was a starter & nearly won the title. A total home run of a transfer. Yedlin & Co. qualified for the Champions League qualifiers with the 2nd place finish

The interest in Americans from Serie A clubs continues to pick up. Following McKennie to Juventus and Reynolds to Roma, sources tell CBS Sports that Spezia are considering a move for Reggie Cannon of Boavista.

Who is Eryk Williamson and why have I never heard of him?

btw, @NewlyRetired, I've probably seen like 120 minutes of MLS this year and it seems like I'm seeing much better passing and pressing in the midfield.  Basically better cohesiveness and team play on both offense and defense.  Is that a thing that regulars would agree with?  Or is it just that I'm seeing highlight segments and games between two good teams?

I realize this is like asking a mom if her child is more beautiful than the last time you saw it, but do your best.  🙂

1) Williamson appears to be the poster boy for the media guys, correctly by the way, pointing out every week how bad a job Kreis did in building his squad.  It is uncanny how well every player he snubbed is playing this year, including Williamson, while almost all of the guys he picked are doing nothing so far.

2) MLS has been baby stepping its general technical skills and tactical play every season, even with the constant expansion, which makes doing this harder.  There are still plenty of donkey moments but that is going to happen in a league with 27 teams and growing.  I believe the quality continues to inch forward due to both the domestic base improving via more and more home growns graduating from the academies and a focus on many teams using South American players in the middle of the field.

Why did this go away for a time?  In the early years every team had a foreigner at attacking mid:  Etcheverry, Cienfuegos, Valderrama, Preki*, etc.

In the little bit I've seen he looks legit.  Just constantly finding time and space for himself and wriggling out of pressure.

Because the league stopped spending money in totality when they entered the dark years trying to survive.

By the time they came out of survival mode, new investments were placed into infrastructure (stadiums and academies) and those took up most of the funds.

As the league got out of survival mode, and transitioned through stability mode of infrastructure investments, they finally entered a growth phase in which they focused many of the new investment dollars on skillful South American attacking players.

I kind of wish we'd get past this phase (because it's 100% accurate), but this is funny...

USMNT fans are easily the most fanatical of any national team. Those guys will watch the Bosnian 2nd division because Bragdon Tastywater is on the bench for Odžak 102 and might make a sub appearance.

hey development/youth guys, what are these extra markings on the field?  Is it to help accentuate spatial awareness?

I don't recognize the markings as being for another sport but I can't say I am educated on either lacrosse or field hockey if it is for one of those...

Wonder if they look to replace Sargent. New coach is probably going to want a striker who scores.
