Not really.  Pool could lose their next 2 matches and then the loser of this match could still get 4th.

the Champions League final also might make this game meaningless.

Chelsea could lose out in EPL, and if they win the CL final they will qualify for next year as a 5th EPL team.

That being said I am 100% certain Chelsea (and LC) will be doing all they can to win today.

How much control does CP and Chelsea have over that?

Pulisic looking to break his own record for fouls drawn today.

He seemed out of sync and isolated today.  There's just not good interplay between CP and Werner nor Mount and Werner.

I thought he was well off his normal standards as well.  He was struggling to beat anyone face up and I don't recall him turning any one either (something he does almost every game).

As an unrelated to this thread observation, Tammy Abraham has to be thinking Tuchel believe he killed his dog or something.

Tammy is hardly Haaland but my god watching Werner week after week get so many chances, Abraham has to be WTFing constantly..........

I don't think Tammy is the answer, but maybe I'm wrong.  There's just something disjointed about the attack if it is not a counterattack.  Maybe I'm wrong, but Werner's runs just seem to be handled by one defender and don't open the space for others.  He seems both static and dynamic at the same time.  It just seems like the defense knows how Chelsea want to break them down and at this point can snuff out those runs fairly easily.

I mean even today their goals came from a corner and a penalty that Leicester had contained.

I assume this means we will get a deep look at our depth at the 6 over these next 4 games

Ugh.  One would think that RBL would have their pick of any German specialist on this.  Maybe he's getting time off early since they know he won't be back before the end of the season.  Anyway, not a good situation.

Back problems suck to diagnose and fix I think,  They still baffle modern medicine.

Pulisic, Steffen, and Adams are now most assuredly going to be out for Switzerland.

Brooks did not practice yesterday but I don't know how serious it is.

I'll frankly be shocked if most non-Euro's in general play much this summer.  The only thing forcing Euro's to keep playing are the Euros.

I gotta plead ignorance once again, but we're expecting the best XI available to play June 3 and 6 in Denver, right?  Aren't we assuming that will be the USMNT A team of healthy available players?

The provisional roster indicates that it is the top players.

How many actually make it to the final roster is unknown.

We have already lost Long.  Adams almost assuredly is not going to be there.  Brooks is currently hurt.  No one is going to shocked if Tuchel asks GGG to give Pulisic a rest after a torrid run of games for Chelsea.

We just have to wait and see.

Yeah, Adams' injury history is really starting to become an issue. And they dont have a high level replacement. Not good.

it is the timing that constantly sucks.

He was actually healthy most of the year and has played in 37 games for RBL this season, which is a decent number.

Getting hurt just before he is needed for the US is less than ideal :(

@USMNT

The #USMNT roster for the May 30 match at will drop Thursday (TOMORROW) at 11am ET.

Steven Goff

@SoccerInsider

This is NOT the final USMNT Nations League roster, although there will be much overlap for June 3-6 event. Pulisic & Steffen unavailable for 5/30 because of Champions League, Sargent & Dike might have playoff conflicts, not all MLS players for Nations League will travel to Europe.

So expecting some Euro-based players in uniform for the Swiss friendly but not on the Nations League squad.

Looks like we'll see Musah + Weston + Acosta across the midfield?

That would be my guess too.

Acosta started in the last couple of friendlies when both Weston and Adams were missing due to covid travel issues so we know that GGG seems to think he is decent enough.

Did Busio make the roster?

There is also a chance GGG slots Weston in the middle at the 6 and goes with Lletget and Musah.

I think this is most likely to happen. And honestly, not the worst setup.

Another US cup winner.

England, Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Italy

Amazing when you think about it.  And in each case the US player was a major part of the cup run except for maybe McKenzie who was more of a role player.

Yeah I would agree with playing Weston at the 6 if adams can't go (which seems likely).

I normally subscribe to the "don't weaken two positions" theory but the drop off to yuell is just so huge. And they have an abundance of decent options at the 8.

#USMNT center back Chris Richards remains out with an injury. That's not great news for the U.S. as they try to replace Aaron Long. Going further down the depth chart now... Matt Miazga, Mark McKenzie, Miles Robinson, Walker Zimmerman are the next four names that come to mind.

IIRC, Miazga and Zimmerman don't possess the offensive skills that Richards has, but I believe McKenzie is more in Richards' mold. If that's right, I think calling up Richards is a fine move and GGG doesn't have to alter his tactics.  I'm not as familiar with Robinson, so I don't know how he stacks up, but with "bangers" like Miazga and Zimmerman available, the cupboard doesn't seem bare.

Just a reminder for those that want to watch the Nations League game in English, you have to have Paramount+ or find an illegal stream some where.

The normal Spanish channels will also be carrying the two games.  ESPN will be showing the two upcoming friendlies.

wow so much to break down!!

1) first and foremost, including Che is fabulous.  He is about to be signed by Bayern and has hinted that if Germany shows interest, he would be open to it.  Getting him involved early with the US again shows GGG is ultra aware of the dual nats.

2) I can't make heads or tails of the keepers.  If Ochoa was not there it would have made more sense. I can't figure out why he is there instead of MLS keepers who are clearly ahead of him.  Maybe it is a scheduling issue.

3) Good to see Julian Green and his name shows the friendly rosters are not using the nation league provisional roster.

4) Interesting that Adams is in the initial roster.  Maybe the back issues are not as bad as indicated in the press?

My starters, if healthy.  Not sure at GK.

Missing Adams would change things up a bit having to drop McKennie back.

Would have no issue with Weah or Dike in for Sargent instead.

I am still really pumped about Che.  Everything is pointing to Dallas producing yet another fabulous talent out of their academy.

I would have to look this up but I think he is the youngest player called up during GGG's time.

Some recent game highlights

He looks good on the ball. But he looks awfully small to me for a CB.  I've watched a few more of his and, while I think he looks good, he doesn't jump out for me just yet. But if Bayern is interested, then I am too.

He is also playing up a level too I believe as these are U19 highlights so that could explain some size issues.

He is following almost the identical path Richards did.  Che went over to train in the winter, they liked him and asked for a loan, the loan has gone well against older kids and now he looks like he will be signed soon.

If he can get loaned out next season for playing time, that would be ideal.
