I am watching every Bond movie: please kill me

Quantum of Solace is a different kind of bad. Forster created a joyless incomprehensible turd that took itself way too seriously. Other bad Bonds are fun at least. Diamonds are Forever, the Roger Bonds and Tomorrow Never Dies are campy over the top entertainment. Quantum aspired to elevate the genre and failed almost completely. I think Die Another Day was the only other 007 movie that tried to do this but it didn't nearly aim as high.

I refuse to accept it's worse than the combined worst of Moore, Brosnan and Dalton. I can always turn it off before the last 20-30 minutes. Granted I'm grading more watching them both today vs. 30 years ago for Moore.

Very bad Bond movie. Not Diamonds are Forever Bad or Die Another Day bad... but just not entertaining.

The early reviews on Spectre from London are pretty mediocre.... I hope they are wrong.

That is a very good description.

Just re-watched Quantom of Solace. It's actually a pretty decent movie until the last 20 minutes. The villain is weak but that's the case in several movies - they just needed a better ending. Not sure why it gets such a low ranking.

I like Quantum better than Skyfall.

God no. But to each his/her own.

I am stoked for Spectre. Love Craig Daniels. Second best 007 ever next to Sir Sean.

He is a perfect James Bond. So far 2/3 have been spot on for me with one mis-step in Quantum. In fact Casino Royale and Skyfall are top 10 007 flicks for me with Casino a top 3 easy.

:lmao: at Craig Daniels

Knew he was gonna be good soon as I saw him in The Layer Cake

To each their own, Quantum wasn't as good as Casino (basically just a continuation of Casino's final scene, Bond doing his Liam Neeson in Taken impersonation) but its a world away from the Brosnan crap.

Die Another Day, The World Is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies are steaming piles that would be best forgotten. We can keep Goldeneye though.

Sounds about right for the #### Brosnan ones

This. Quantum is not nearly as bad as some of you make it sound. Brosnan's stuff after Golden Eye was terrible. So was Diamonds, View, Never Say Never. Quantum is middle of the pack at worst.

For real...I've lost track...has OP even made it to Brosnan's crap yet?

This dude has NO idea how bad it's about to get in this series.

I like Brosnan better than Dalton and later Moore stuff. Really like GoldenEye. And I was a huge Denise Richards fan even though that movie was terrible.

I'll have to go back and look but I believe I am set to start on the first Bronson movie.

Hence, the 4-month delay.

I can't say I like Brosnan in just about anything he's ever been in but he's not horrible. They focus a lot of gadgets and fight scenes in his Bond movies. And he has some great Bond girls. Having said that I wouldn't watch them again except maybe Goldeneye.

Goldeneye is the best of the Brosnans but I don't think it's head and shoulders above the others (except Die Another Day which is the dregs). I think Goldeneye has been overrated a bit in this thread for a couple of reasons. There was a six year gap between Licence to Kill and Goldeneye, the longest period of dormancy in the series. Based on other threads, the early-mid 90s is a big period for the prime demographic of this board. So Goldeneye was a lot of FBGs first exposure to 007 and there's nothing like the first. The fact that Goldeneye was also a legendary FPS also factors in even though the game followed the movie by almost two years.

That said, it's a solid Bond movie. Brosnan makes a fine 007; it's not his fault he's so handsome  It was a smart move by the producers to bring in Martin Campbell to direct. Campbell wasn't a veteran of the Eon stock company and the film looks markedly better than the late 80s movies. He had a bigger budget to work with and it shows on the screen. Campbell and the second unit handled the action sequences professionally. They're exciting without being confused and disorienting like in Quantum or Die Another Die.

The Brosnan films are hurt by poor villains. The post-Cold War scripts moved from the single megalomaniac destroying the world toward more complex and "realistic" plots. I don't know if this was all for the better. With more side plots and minor characters, there was less focus on the bad guy. Pierce Bond really only gets 1 1/2 good villains in his four films: Jonathan Pryce's ham acting media mogul in Tomorrow Never Dies and Sean Bean's 008 in Goldeneye. The other villains and henchmen are meh and even the good ones don't measure up to a Blofeld or Goldfinger. A man who feels no pain and a guy with diamonds in his face, who writes this ####? OK, two good villains because Sophie Marceau's Elektra King counts for another half.

Enjoy Goldeneye. It's an important film because its box office success quelled fears that 007 was a Cold War relic. The series hasn't looked back. Well, actually Casino Royale was a total look back but that's four movies away.

I enjoy Goldeneye.

Easily the best of the Bronsan Bond films and by a wide margin.....but I have a guilty pleasure in Die Another Day!!! So old school campy. What can I tell ya. I liked his first and his last. The other 2 in between are just awful and forgettable. First and last are not for many different reasons.

Anyway Thank god Daniel Craig brought this series back from the dead for me.

Saw Spectre last night. Visually spectacular at times, script/pacing were slightly off and it was a bit disjointed at times. I liked it a lot, but didn't walk out of the theater loving it, as I did Casino Royale (my favorite of all Bond movies) or Skyfall (which has flaws of its own).

This seems to be a consensus among reviews I've seen.

It's a Bond flick and as long as it's not Die Another Day or Quantum of Solace I'll be pleased.

I hated Quantum of Solace. I was in the minority in that I didn't think Skyfall was much better. It at least had competent direction/cinematography, but I thought the story was a mess. Ultimately, I find that Bond (much like Batman, which I'm also in the minority on) really can't handle the weight contemporary filmmakers try to put on him. I don't mind a nod to the fact that Bond is a bit of a sociopath. I don't need an entire movie devoted to its genesis.

It's not those two (although I don't hate QoS as much as most).

I really enjoyed spectre, my only complaint was that it took too long to get to the main villain and it could have really been 15 minutes shorter with better pacing. Oh and the theme blew.

I feel much the same, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I was hoping. And it seemed to me that they kept having little things that were suppose to be "nods" to previous Bond movies. The "injury" the main villain had - similar to the affliction that the main villain in Casino had, no? The being strapped to a chair - c'mon. And it did seem very, very long.

Felt like Daniel Craig's greatest hits IMO. It was okay, but often fell flat.

Spectre was my first Bond movie. I may have seen bits and pieces of other Bond films on TV and maybe 1 or 2 full movies years ago but don't really remember them. It was about what I expected. Pretty cheesy throughout but also lots of great action. Felt like a throwback film. I'm sure having some backstory would have helped. It did make me want to go back and watch the older movies.

It actually started with a huge bang for me (pardon the pun for those that have seen it). I believe the first ~5 minutes of the movie was all one continuous shot. The entire parade, street, elevator, hotel room, window, rooftop up until he took looked through the scope into the other building was one continuous shot. I kept looking for more "long shots" throughout the rest of the movie, but couldn't find any.

we're kind of back!! We went to see Spectre tonight. I thought it was quite good. A lack of Waltz which is bothersome, and the snooping story wasn't a huge hit (I like my villains to be more over the top) but I really enjoyed it. I particularly liked all the nods to the 60s movies, with the train scene, the building in the alps and the Spectre hidden location in a giant crater. Loved all that.

Good enough Bond theme too. Hopefully we see more of Blofeld in the future, movies are much better with him IMO.

Surely it's been discussed, but how many STD's must Bond have? Guy bangs everything he can. He's been hit by the herpes bus a dozen or so times or must carry around a Costco size wallet of condoms. And how many bastard kids must he have littered across the globe? None of these women come after him for child support?
