Cold rain sucks.Well, so much for that 15K.
Pretty simple race report. I'm a big ####. Got out there, low 40's to start, not bad at all. Started raining right at the start for the first couple miles (unexpected). Shoes and socks completely soaked. By mile 3, couple toes on right foot started hurting as a result and really had no interest to go through another hour of that and walked off for the first time ever. Not being in any kind of shape to race, just had no interest to do that for a ####ty time. I was fine with slowing down and just enjoying the run until that.
The better half, on the other hand, killed it. Despite not running much in the last month since the Indy marathon, she smashed her 15K PR by over 2 1/2 minutes, finishing at a 7:44 pace and good for 3rd in her AG. She would have actually finished 1st in the 40-44 AG (the one YOUNGER than hers). La di dah.
She will be. I'm looking forward to running with her again too.Cold rain sucks.
Congrats to the Mrs. She is crushing it. Now is time to take a month break (from hard runs) before embarking on the Boston training block.
Bunch of stud muffins.FYI, the year-end template will be posted in coming days. This will be year 12!
Looking at Strava, I see we have a clear mileage leader for the year: @pbm107 is over 2,500 miles giving him a big lead over @Juxtatarot (2,200+ despite recent down weeks) and @SteelCurtain (2,100+).
Five of us are on track to hit 2,000 miles ...a few of us for the first time. @bushdocda, @xulf, @gruecd, @MAC_32, and myself all need less than 100 miles over the next four weeks.
I was depressed early-mid Nov when I didn't think this was happening. Breath of fresh air Thanksgiving weekend when I realized I was ahead of schedule and this was possible. And now after today's success my amended plan has me scheduled to clear the bar on christmas.FYI, the year-end template will be posted in coming days. This will be year 12!

Did you say muffins? Because I may not have run 2000 miles, but I definitely ate 2000 muffins.Bunch of stud muffins.
And: Waiting for @Zasada to ask about the elevation rankings, where he laps the field a few times over.

And you are crushing the pushup challenge. I'm doing my best not to get competitive like I did in the spring with @pbm107.Lol, I feel like this is a game of "which one doesn't belong" and I'm the one
Never thought I would approach any number like this. What a crazy and unexpected year
I think he went back to college.yeah whatever happened to that guy?
Impressive numbers. Any way to see your yearly numbers or did you just sign up in 2021?I thought I was keeping in decent shape on the bike with outdoor riding and throwing in the occasional something of substance on a weekday and a long ride on the weekend. Anyway, now that I'm back riding indoors, the numbers weren't backing it up. Not that I mind - with no races per se, my goals are just to simply to continue to ride and stay in shape; whatever that means at any given moment.
Did a race this morning and placed 19 out of 57 in the C category. Not a remarkable place, but I finally got a notification that my FTP (functional threshhold power) went from 196 to 198. Plus, based on my time on one of the segments, I got the green jersey (best time on that segment) for the 2nd half of the ride. I know this sounds like nonsense to most of you, but both were 'firsts' for me since being on Zwift and at least some validation of my work the past month.
I'm at 4,800 miles year to date, so I'm targeting 5,200 goal for the year. I'm also looking to get another 16,000 feet of elevation by year end to complete an unlock challenge by Dec 31. Both of these are doable if I stick with what I've been doing the past month.
It’s not all good. Any of you guys know how to coach football?I think he went back to college.
What a lucky jerk.
I can lend a hand with the skill positions. It’s not all good. Any of you guys know how to coach football?

Antonio Brown has a guy...All NYRR races (including NYC Marathon) requiring vaccine in order to run. Mostly impacts non-NYC runners as NYC requires vaccine to even eat inside a restaurant.
Do they require you to be vaccinated? Or do they require you to have immunity?Antonio Brown has a guy...
News report last night on that airline exec/runner who disappeared sixteen months ago and whose body was found hanging from a tree in the Waterfall Glen forest preserve back in October. It turns out the day before he disappeared, the local police had conducted a search of his home and computer ....he apparently had been accessing and downloading child pornography.
Sheesh. I didn't realize that he'd hanged himself. Makes sense though. Good lord, this part is sad: "Police reports say a "mostly empty bottle of rum and a backpack were nearby." Inside the backpack was a notebook with a note addressed to his two teenagers saying "he was sorry and embarrassed to take the easy way out."Sheesh. I didn't realize that he'd hanged himself. Generally speaking, it's not a good idea to engage the same muscle within a 48 hour period. This is why I never have and never will join this challenge. That said, since the push up movement engages so many muscle groups most subjects don't encounter this sort of discomfort when disregarding this rule, but there are exceptions. For the record, the push up challenge broke me! My left shoulder has been messed up since about day 3 and I can't quite get it right yet. My wife keeps threatening to send me to the doctor but I'm not sure it needs that - or at least, if it does, it needs more than just someone looking at it. Combo of stretching, rest, and poking/prodding it with a theracane is helping but, man is it just not fun. I'd call it more "hurt" than "injured" if that makes sense. Definitely not fun - but hasn't bothered me when I run or do 'normal' things but it's definitely not quite 'right'.

I've mentioned this before, but I intentionally don't intervene when you all periodically re-engage this challenge. The likelihood of hurt/injury is small, so I think the benefits outweigh the risk. But if your shoulder is barking at you then when you get started again try to do more per session, but do not do them every day.
So if I want a Garmin watch that's gonna have sufficient battery life for ultra-type events (specifically R2R2R), I want to look at the Fenix 6 series, right? I'm looking specifically at the Fenix 6x Pro. Looks like I can get it now for $494 on Amazon (with the Fenix 7 rumored to be coming out sometime next year). Is that the one I want?

Thanks! I use the RunGo app on my Apple Watch for the same thing. Love it. I'll probably continue to run with both, since my Apple Watch has LTE so I can make calls/texts if necessary while I'm out there. I know you can download music to the Fenix, but I like being able to stream directly from Spotify on my Apple Watch, too.ETA: The route-building feature of Garmin watches is awesome. You build a route in Strava, save it, and it will automatically upload to your watch through Garmin Connect. Then, when running, it will give you real-time directions and display your position on the map/route as you run. I'm kicking myself for not figuring it out when I first got the watch, because it's incredible for running in a new city. I now never have to get my phone out to see where I am, or where I'm going. Love it.

I'll be running with 2 other guys, so there won't be any music. Need to focus so I don't fall off a cliff...Yes the 6X Pro will allow you to download music to it, but playing said music really punishes battery life. So don't count on using it for music on R2R2R. At least not for the whole thing.

Tentatively looking at April 1...a whopping 10 days before Boston.Have you picked a date yet? IIRC we're going to be there around the same time. Presuming my plans don't fall apart again.

I'm talking to a coach this afternoon who's done it several times and actually lived in the canyon for a while. Since this will be so different from anything I've done, I thought it would be good to get coaching specific to this endeavor.Hah, cool. I'm about a week after that. I'll expect a detailed RR!
