GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (14 Viewers)

Helped my wife go through my MIL’s house today. Pretty interesting day. My wife was raised by a single mom in quite a bit of poverty. The only family my wife knew was her mom and her grandmother who had some mental health issues and lived with them until she passed away when my wife was 11. Grandmother grew up in WWII Germany with some money, not a ton, but they weren’t poor. They opposed the war and didn’t join in on all the awful stuff that happened as near as we can tell. Grandmom moved to the US after where she got married.

The pivotal piece of their family story ended in the violent death of my MIL’s kid brother and father. Pretty much set the course of life for my MIL and her mother. Also caused my MIL to kind of bottle up and suppress family history because it was just painful to think about for her. So my wife has some knowledge of family history, but not a ton.

Anyway, going through stuff we’ve found treasure troves of family photos going back generations to the early 1900s, my wife’s grandparents’ wedding album she never saw, awesome 100 year old German beer steins, antique silver silverware, hand carved wood plates, some plates that appear to be mostly lead lol, sketches done by her grandfather including a nude of her grandmother   :oldunsure:  some awesome paintings, some of which appear to be of old family, old handmaid beautiful linens from Germany, etc. Pretty cool day to see my wife get to connect with a part of her family and past that she didn’t really know and had always felt a hole in her life about.
ummm, curious about the pivotal piece of their family story

Had foot surgery this week and have to be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks.  I usually keep myself busy all weekend long.  Just laying in bed the past few days has me bored to tears.
Get better soon.  I invented something that might be able to help.  It’s a foot ointment, but it also works as hair gel and salad dressing.

Texted @cosjobs no answer. Did you get a new number?

anyway, send me your Venmo, or I’ll pay you next week, when I get home.
yeah, its kind of a pain, I need to get Joyce to dig it out again. For Vermeil we had to make him a friend or something.  . I'll send it over when she figures it out.

Better than @Getzlaf15 who sent it to an account I haven't used in eight years. I have no idea of the password. I hope he can retract it or something.

I sent it to the email address you posted on the boxes page

really? for some reason it came to my email for Winebat llc. None of the others have done than. but went straight to my wife's. We'll figure it out I guess.
that's why I made that post after I paid, because it was to a company name, not your name.  Wanted to make sure it was OK.

I can't imagine. My wife's been quarantined, mostly restricted to our room, for less than a week and she's losing her mind. And she's completely mobile.

"My :insert relative/friend/whoever here: would have been :insert age here: today".

Why do people do this?

A coworker just said her mom would have been 90 today.

Okay.

On February 12th, I'm going to tell her that Abraham Lincoln would have been 212 today.

They do this because birthdays mark the passing of time, which also helps us remember loved ones lost when it's their birthday. Which seems goofily obvious. Why on earth would this bother you or anybody.

Whoa, you seem more bothered by my reaction to this than me actually being bothered by it

Just observing that it's silly behavior....especially to coworkers who aren't that close to you.

Not bothered...just responding to your post and question which, as I wrote the reply, seemed obvious.

Sharing that kind of personal info with people at work...  ...not my bag. But not something I'd care about enough to raise here.
