Arrest warrants issued for parents who cheered grad too much (1 Viewer)

My daughter just graduated last week, and they also asked the audience to hold applause and not to yell during the ceremony. Of course most people hooted and hollered, and a couple of idiots brought cowbells. I found it annoying, and some names were not heard due to the previous person's family yelling. :getoffmylawn:

Next thing you know they will be arresting people for talking too loud in movie theatres.

Yeah. It's obnoxious. Clearly summary execution is in order for these people. I don't get why they are messing around with just arrest warrants and $500 fines.

“I can understand they can escort me out of the graduation, but to say they are going to put me in jail for it,” Miller said. “What else are they allowed to do?”
Don't do the crime if you can't do the time

They were removed from event because of said disturbance...any additional bureaucratic involvement after the fact is pointless, wasteful, and inviting of bigger problems (civil rights)

At my high school graduation back in 1989 the valedictorian was getting ready for her speech when her father screamed out "That's my seed"

Asking people to hold applause is one of the stupidest things around. It's a celebration, let people celebrate.

Individual celebrations have gotten out of hand. They last too long and it's rude to the next graduate. They also extend an already too long of a ceremony.

Just hand the ref the football and act like you've been there before.

#BanCelebrations

I completely agree.

Having said that, do you think it's reasonable to prosecute people for cheering at their daughter's graduation?

Edit: This is kind of like the motorcycle idiot thread, where yeah the motorcycle guy was kind of a ####, but the guy in the care who rammed him was clearly in a whole 'nother universe of bad behavior. I'd prefer that people STF.U. during graduation, but siccing the police on them is so over the top that it should be firing offense.

Its friggin HS! Sorry for not being PC but unless child is disabled there is no reason for the yelling I've heard. Not surprisingly this has filtered down to middle school. Like Facebook its another outlet for parents to say 'Hey, lookit my kid!'

This middle school teacher's theory on graduations:

The more hooting and hollering there is for a kid, the more of a pain in the ### the kid was at school.

So you are saying that the family is so stunned that their precious snowflake has survived and been put thru that they have to celebrate like idiots?

No doubt about any of what you said, but arrest warrants for "disturbing the peace"? Beyond ludicrous.

This.

But then there are plenty of the snowflake kind too.

I agree. They should just have security/ushers roaming the crowd with truncheons and mace.

To the parents... you wanted to make sure the ceremony was about you and your kid. Congratulations, you did. Now you have to deal with it.

So.... why aren't you allowed to cheer for your kids at these things as they walk across the stage anymore?
Only thing I can think of is that their applause/cheering extended on into other kids' name announcements. That's all I've got...

I am sure it did become a bit of one-upsmanship at these things. Mostly I bet it was some PC lameness about not wanting little Susie to feel bad because she had only 3 people cheering and little Jenny had 20.

Hey, you know why else people are cheering so damn loud? Probably because they have had to endure about 6 "graduations" for each of their kids as they get done with Kindergarten, Elementary school, Grade School, Middle School, blah, blah, and they are happy to be done for at least 4 years.

Arresting them is extreme, but I'm sure there were signs posted, letters sent out and announcements made. At a certain point, irrational people might need to have irrational consequences.

It is not a celebration, it is a ceremony. The parties afterward are for celebrating.

I guess she took after her mother.
