WR Stefon Diggs, BUF (2 Viewers)

Thanks for starting this hype train Faust.... my preseason sleeper to carve out a role at the expense of uberbust Cord Patterson.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Vikings reporter Ben Goessling believes fifth-round WR Stefon Diggs will contribute more from the slot than outside.

Diggs is certainly built like a slot receiver, checking in at 6-foot-0, 195 pounds. Diggs was expected to be a playmaker all over the field at Maryland, but was hampered by injuries. He has adequate speed at 4.46. Diggs could have a hard time earning targets as a rookie. Mike Wallace and Charles Johnson have the outside on lock, while Jarius Wright is capable in the slot. Cordarrelle Patterson is still hanging around as a supposed playmaker.

ESPN's Todd McShay believes Maryland WR Stefon Diggs "is a potential Day 2 pick because he is exceptional in one important trait -- the ability to create with the ball in his hands."

"He is a twitched-up wide receiver with really impressive stop-start ability and lateral agility, and while he doesn't have elite top-end speed, he is above average in this area and does possess elite initial burst (just a 4.46 40-yard dash, but an excellent 1.53-second 10-yard split)," McShay wrote. "He almost always makes the first defender miss either after the catch or as a returner (which might end up being his best role in the pros), and he can string together multiple moves with the ball in his hands." The analyst clarifies that Diggs "isn't likely to go in the first two rounds" because of his size and health concerns, but calls him a "big-time playmaker in the open field" who could be a potential steal. The 6-foot, 195-pound Diggs was called the "sleeper favorite" of Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score metric.

Maryland WR Stefon Diggs "has the skills to be a productive NFL receiver" despite a lackluster collegiate career, notes CBS Sports' Pete Prisco.

"He is also a capable return man," Prisco wrote. "A team using a mid-round pick on him might end up with a steal. The talent is there." The analyst is far from the only person who thinks so, which is why it's basically impossible to peg where Diggs will go in the draft. Diggs was dubbed "Playmaker's 2015 sleeper favorite" by Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score. The 6-foot, 195-pound Diggs recorded forty times of 4.46 and 4.50 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

ESPN's Todd McShay is concerned about Maryland WR Stefon Diggs's durability, but writes that there's "a lot to like about his game."

"He is special with the ball in his hands, with impressive stop-start ability, lateral agility, shiftiness in the open field and the top-end speed to hit the home run when he catches a crease," McShay wrote. "He's a zone-buster who can locate soft spots underneath but also threaten vertically with his speed. He's a very good return specialist as well." Diggs is a former stud recruit coming off an up-and-down college career who was dubbed "Playmaker's 2015 sleeper favorite" by Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score. The 6-foot, 195-pound Diggs recorded forty times of 4.46 and 4.50 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Maryland WR Stefon Diggs "ran scissor-sharp routes and caught the ball very well" at his pro day, according to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

In the days surrounding the event, Diggs met with the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers. Standing on his forty time, Diggs timed 4.11 seconds in the short shuttle, besting his combine time by almost two-tenths of a second. Diggs was recently dubbed "Playmaker's 2015 sleeper favorite" by Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score.

Maryland WR Stefon Diggs has been dubbed "Playmaker's 2015 sleeper favorite."

Football Outsiders' Playmaker Score ranks Diggs as the No. 10 receiver, ahead of far more heralded prospects like Devin Funchess, Phillip Dorsett and Dorial Green-Beckham. The model apparently gave Diggs much credit for his huge freshman campaign -- when he caught 54 passes for 848 yards and six touchdowns while also rushing for 114 yards on 20 attempts -- while Maryland attempted only 304 passes due to playing three freshman quarterbacks. "He is regarded as only a mid- to late-round prospect by conventional wisdom because his sophomore and junior years were marred by injury and inconsistency," wrote FO's Nathan Forster. "It's true that these injury concerns could return to haunt Diggs' professional career, but at a low price, the upside that Diggs teased as a freshman is well worth the gamble." Playmaker compares the former five-star recruit to Antonio Brown and Az-Zahir Hakim.

Maryland WR Stefon Diggs is "a potential first-rounder" on "his best tape," according to ESPN's Mel Kiper.

"But Diggs has been dogged by injuries over his time at Maryland," Kiper wrote. "But teams will see that good tape, and he could land here." The 6-foot, 195-pound Diggs recorded forty times of 4.46 and 4.50 at the NFL Scouting Combine. We see him as almost exclusively a straight-line player, like a poor man's Ted Ginn Jr.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that the "general consensus from scouts at the Shrine Game is Maryland receiver Stefon Diggs made a big mistake entering the draft, an opinion I concur with."

Diggs declared for the draft earlier this month. "Most grade Diggs as a last day pick and feel another season on the college field would’ve potentially pushed him into the draft’s initial 75 selections," Pauline wrote. We don't mean to pile on, but we're with Pauline. Diggs is a straight-line player, similar to Ted Ginn Jr. but not quite as good a prospect.

At this point it safe to change Tony Pauline name to inaccurate rumor monger. His sources have proven to be by far the worst in the business.

Man, I'm starting to remember why I liked this guy so much his freshman year.
This guy looked like a smaller, less physical Dez early on before the injuries. I know that's a huge part of Dez's game so it's a dumb comparison, but the way he moved and played big and went up for balls his first couple years always reminded me of a mini Dez.

Wallace ready for Zimmers quizzes

At the end of this interview ( 2:54 mark) Wallace talks about Stefon Diggs.

When you just look at a guy, you know this is my 7th year, some guys you look at them, you can tell if they have it or not. Just from the start. He has it man, he has that football capability, great hands, speed, routes is crazy, You know hes going to be good. He reminds me a lot of Antonio (Brown)

Love the Diggs hype. I drafted him in one of my dynasty leagues back in May when you're drafting purely on measurables and history. He had some bad luck with injuries in college but it's lookinglike he is a player. Can't wait to see him in preseason action.

The AB comparison is crazy. Looking forward to seeing him in action

How do you know? Brown was a 6th rounder himself. It's a long shot but it does happen.
Sorry! I meant that's crazy for Wallace, someone who played with and knows AB well, to give him such high praise.

Curious where he was drafted in other dynasty leagues. I nabbed him 3.15 in a 16 team non-IDP 5 round dynasty draft back in May.

He seems to be moving up the ADP rankings steadily with the drumbeat of good reports on him. Hopefully he has a few quiet weeks.

Stefon Diggs - WR - Vikings

Vikings rookie WR/PR Stefon Diggs caught two passes for 14 yards in Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game against the Steelers.

Diggs' highlight was a 62-yard punt return where he dove just short of the goal line. The fifth-round pick out of Maryland has reportedly shined in camp and could be the Vikings' slot receiver of the future, in addition to a return specialist to complement KR Cordarrelle Patterson.

Rotoworld:

Vikings WR Stefon Diggs caught 3-of-5 targets for 49 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys.

The fifth-rounder made some plays this summer, catching seven passes for 89 yards. Diggs is an ex-five star recruit with athletic upside, but the majority of his rookie contributions should come on special teams.

Rotoworld:

Vikings rookie WR Stefon Diggs caught eight balls for 85 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's preseason finale.

Diggs finishes the preseason with team highs in catches (15) and receiving yards (174), and including returns piled up 413 all-purpose yards. Diggs was a disappointment at Maryland as a former top-shelf recruit, but he has talent to play in the NFL. Diggs figures to open the season as the Vikings' No. 4 or 5 receiver behind Charles Johnson, Mike Wallace, and Jarius Wright. Diggs is pushing Cordarrelle Patterson to be the No. 4.

I would put him over Coradelle in a heartbeat

Stefon Diggs should be active for the first time this week due to Charles Johnson being out with a rib injury and also Jarius Wright being limited with a hand injury and listed as questionable.

From Zimmers PC earlier today:

Q: With those guys practicing on a limited basis, did that give Stefon Diggs more of a chance to do things in practice this week?

A: It did.

Q: What is the benefit of that for him?

A: I think for the young guys, it’s good that they start to get in the mix a little bit and not just running on the show team. They’re starting to get excited about the opportunities to play. I think the other thing that happens is they understand that they’ve got to stay ready because you never know.

He's not a nervous guy, this is interesting. He could be the rare type to produce right away. How much is probably low, but it should be fun to watch

He did fumble twice, but got both back. He did look pretty good out there though. Minimal upside as even a WR3 in a run-centric offense, but should be owned in dynasty (and probably is in most places).

I remember one his fumbles came as he was going down after a pretty long catch. DB hit it with his fist and punched it out as he was making the tackle. Diggs sat up and grabbed it back.

I'm having trouble remembering the other fumble.

The other was on a great strip by Roby on a 5 yard pass in the flank. He recovered it as well. I think he will eventually be great - I wondering how much I need to overpay to get him now rather than when he actually breaks out.

OK, so we all know the drill with Viking WRs, right? Pick him up, ride him out the rest of the season, and stay the heck away when everyone's drafting him as their "sleeper" next year.

I like how Diggs fights for the ball. In the first half on 3 different throws Diggs attacks the ball at its highest point. The first one of these the defender is very close but Bridgewater leads Diggs on the throw and Diggs leaps forward to catch the ball, the momentum carries him forward for the 1st down even though Roby is all over him. The second one Diggs comes back for the ball and is able to run a bit after the catch. The third one the ball is high but Diggs is able to jump up and extend his arms for the catch. Given that Bridgewater has been throwing high pretty often so far this season, having a receiver who can make a play on those high throws, even with Diggs limited stature is a nice thing to see.

The fumbles are a concern. Diggs had a fumble where he was extending the ball for the 1st down in pre-season as well. He makes plays though. I would think the Vikings should keep him on the active roster and involved in the offense from now on. He made some good plays against top notch competition.

Should have started him. I sooo knew this.

That was an excellent defense and Bridgewater has been asleep thus far.

I have never liked Mike Wallace but he's doing something and Charles is stinkin' it up.

Vikes should put Diggs in over Charles, make him win back the job (that is normally one driven guy, shouldn't take long) then put the onus on Wallace to up his game.

They won't. Diggs will become fourth WR or fifth and a darling next training camp or somesuch.

Drives me nuts when bad passing teams act like they'd be benching three Jerry Rice's.

I hope he triggered an awakening here. I liked Teddy last year and the whole can't be balanced must just be about ADP is a terrible way of thinking.

Putting in my claim for the dude. Few WRs have the Lightning in a Bottle upside he could represent in second half of season if he emerges.

Wright returned to practice, Wallace sat. (no one seemed worried, veteran's day off?)

Johnson looks like week 6 return.

My guess is Wright is week 6 too if he's avoiding pass catching portion. All injuries are very guess-y early in the week.

Looks like one more week of Diggs til everyone is upset he's benched.

Except they are on a bye week, so he may not have another showing like last week this year. Good buy and hold for dynasty though.
