The Official Kicker (K) Thread (2 Viewers)

As for Gould, he is rock solid, and the Niners have always seemed to have had difficulties finishing off drives for TDs (especially under Shanahan).
Gould has a week 4 bye.  I love Gould but I really don't want to cut another player that early in the season to carry 2 kickers for a week.  Most of the other good kickers have late bye weeks.  It is far easier to cut another player in week 10 than in week 4.

But if you can juggle it, look at the later season schedule for Gould:

9 @ Arizona Cardinals

10 vs Seattle Seahawks

11 vs Arizona Cardinals

12 vs Green Bay Packers

13 @ Baltimore Ravens

14 @ New Orleans Saints

15 vs Atlanta Falcons

16 vs Los Angeles Rams

From week 9 forward, you only get ONE potential bad weather game (week 13 in Baltimore); the playoffs (weeks 14-16) are against what should be 3 of the top scoring teams in the league (1 in a dome and 2 at home in SF), and as an added bonus, who doesn't like a grown man named Robbie ? :)

and he went to Penn State !!

That is a sweet end-of-season schedule.  I'll definitely be looking to pick up Gould after his bye week.  My guess is he'll be dropped at least half of the time.  Maybe three-quarters of the time.  And picking him up in week 5 will have the added benefit of not having to drop another position player later in the season to keep my other kicker.

Bills signed K Stephen Hauschka to a two-year extension through 2021.

Hauschka has drilled 51-of-61 field goals and 54-of-55 extra points during his two years with the Bills. This extension ties him up in Buffalo through his age-36 season.

A league source said the Panthers do not expect kicker Graham Gano to kick in tomorrow night's preseason game against Pittsburgh, as he continues to work through some knee soreness.

I think he's headed to IR

Ka'imi Fairbairn's full name is John Christian Ka'iminoeauloameka'ikeokekumupa'a Fairbairn.  That's gotta be the longest name in NFL history.
Same total number of letters as Bucs DL Tevita Tuli'aki'ono Tuipulotu Mosese Va'hae Fehoko Faletau Vea (although Vea's name is slightly longer when you include punctuation and spaces).

Any word on the Vikings kicker situation?
This one looks like it is coming down to preseason final. Vedvik has had some rough practices since last weeks debacle. Looks like 5-9 and 5-8. With some bad shanks inside 40. But Bailey does not have the leg for longer kicks. Better accuracy. Add in the 5th rounder given and giving up on Dan Carlson early who went to Oakland and played well. Will they keep both with Vedvik as punter and FG specialist outside 50. Not sure but maybe scenario but really won’t know till after preseason game and maybe Saturday. If I had to draft today, I try to avoid but if wanting Vikings PK, I think they learn from Carlson and take chance on Vedvik. But won’t bet on that.

Graham Gano (knee) is not expected to play in the Panthers' preseason finale.

He's missed the entire preseason. Joye Slye has shined in his absence, connecting on multiple 50-plus yard field goals. Gano's contract ($2.5M dead money) makes him hard to move on from, but it won't be surprising if he's traded ahead of final cuts.

Free agent Matt Bryant will work out for the Falcons.

Bryant went unsigned after getting released by Atlanta in February. The Falcons have Giorgio Tavecchio and Blair Walsh on their roster, but both have struggled this preseason. It won't be surprising if they decide to re-sign Bryant.

Matt Bryant doesn’t come in to work out. Matt Bryant comes in to sign and be the Falcons’ kicker.

If I recall correctly, before Atlanta let him go, weren't they using a punter (or someone else) for kicks of 50+ yards ?

NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon reports Panthers K Graham Gano could begin the year on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Per Blackmon, Gano's knee issue "doesn’t seem to be getting better," and the Panthers are considering being proactive with an IR replacement with an eye toward getting Gano back for the second half of the season. The Panthers' kicker since 2012, Gano missed four games last season with a knee issue. Gano has made 93.5 percent of his field goal attempts over the past two years. It wouldn't be a trivial loss.

Packers waived K Sam Ficken.

Claimed off waivers in April, Ficken's now been waived by two teams in the last five months. Mason Crosby, near-perfect in camp since returning from a calf injury, will enter his 13th season with the Packers as their starting kicker.

@AdamSchefter

Falcons are re-signing veteran kicker Matt Bryant, who was lured out of retirement, per source.

And he has the best schedule in fantasy history! Like 13 games indoors and rest in warm weather!

I drafted Tavecchio earlier this week for this very reason.  Schedule looks like a cakewalk.

Then I picked up Jason Myers, since it appeared as though Tavecchio was going to get cut.

I feel like if I don't get Bryant ASAP, then I won't be getting him.

Now I'm sweating a kicker pre-week 1.      :wall:

Trading a 5th round pick for a kicker and then cutting him two weeks later is kind of one of the most insane things ever.

of course that’s the same guy who gave up a first for Sam Bradford, so 🤷‍♂️

Unwise. The unsteadiness of the position is causing teams to value kickers in non-traditional ways yet refusing to pay for established ones. I wonder what the salary cost of a made field goal relative to other field goals is or should be.

I doubt Vedvik makes it through waivers because of a few missed kicks. People were willing to give fifths and sixths for him. That shouldn't change over a few kicks.

What are people’s thoughts on pairing your kicker with your QB or another player?

On one hand, you potentially get some points if you don’t get into the endzone and bonus point if you do.

Bears coach Matt Nagy confirmed Eddy Pineiro has won the starting kicker job.

Their was some thought the Bears might have interest in Vikings castoff Kaare Vedvik, but instead the Jets snatched him off waivers, cementing Pineiro as the Week 1 starter. "He deserves it," said Nagy of Pineiro, who converted eight of his nine field goal attempts during the preseason. "He earned every right to be our kicker." Pineiro should at least be an improvement on Cody Parkey, who sunk the Bears' playoff hopes with a critical miss in last year's Wild Card loss to Philadelphia.

Fairbarn went early in our league. So he wasn’t an option.

I like Elliot out of the other two as I think the Eagles are going to move the ball.
He’s my pony until week 10.

Fits much of my criteria. Good offense, late BYE, reasonably accurate from deep, and has a foot at the end of his leg.

its rare that I save a K for after their BYE, but since my only K league is IDP there may be a marginal defensive player I can drop if Elliott proves worthy of a hold.

Otherwise I’ll just grab someone who had an early BYE, preferably who kicks in a dome.

I also own Wentz and Ertz. Elliot puts my Eagles investment to three. But I think I like the fact that he tacks on a extra point if those two connect. And gets a FG shot if they stall.

I mentioned it upward in this thread. Not sure how connected you want your kicker to your QB but sometimes it feels nice.

Theres obvious some drawback.

No matter what, you want a kicker that’s getting a lot of shots and I think Elliot will. Even if I didn’t own Wentz.

I don't get why he was ranked so low on most services. He was the no brainer target imo.
