Hall and Oates was very good a few weeks ago in Thousand Oaks. Beth Hart at the Canyon was AWESOME. Just chillin' tonight on the innerwebs and saw Tedeschi Trucks playing 2nd night at Orpheum. Combed Craigslist and then went to Stubhub. Orchestra tix about 1/2 of face! Couldn't pass it up. Headin' down to LA now. If anyone is close by - well worth it. Thought I saw tix for $31 in Orchestra just a few minutes ago. Great show.
Stones on the other hand are no bargain. Got the presale for the 10/23 tix in Las Vegas. $450. List. Man....

Stones were great! We were bummed when we heard that they cancelled the show on Wednesday due to Mick having laryngitis. Lots of stories from fans who flew in from around the world (we spoke to a couple from Poland) and didn't get to see that show. Saturday went on as planned. All the guys were in fine form, highly energetic and on point. 2 solid hours. Great new arena as well and lots of bars/restaurants to hang out before and after.

Lucero last Friday at House of Independents in Asbury Park. Small place (500), so sold out. We had front of balcony, so perfect sight line. No horns, so a different set from "The best American band of the new millennium" (per Rich Russo, and since they are my favs, who am I to disagree). Great show, as Ben and the boys were on their game and cool venue, will be back for both.

Last Saturday night, while The Bride and Spawn #2 were watching Sia perform at Toronto's Air Canada Centre, I was fortunate to score a ticket to the sold-out Dream Serenade benefit for The Beverly School (a school for developmentally disabled students in downtown Toronto). Admittedly...I didn't know what to expect...as my familiarity of the with the catalogues of the artists on the bill ranged from decent (The Barenaked Ladies)...to non-existent (Dan Mangan/Lou Canon)…and somewhere in between (Hayden/Broken Social Scene/Amy Millan/Persuasions). The night started promptly at 8pm...with Hayden and his wife (they have a child with disabilities...who is a student at the school) introducing a thoroughly inspiring short film about the kids of The Beverly School...as told by their siblings. At its conclusion...Hayden went on to talk about another important 'benefityish' concert that occurred at Roy Thomson Hall the previous night. He explained to the crowd that 'concert' revolved around the shameful story of Chanie Wenjack. That evening's 'storyteller' was Gord Downie (he scored the animated film that coincided with the concert). Hayden finished his brief explanation...and, as if on cue…Gord Downie walks out to the middle of the Massey stage...grabs the mic...and he and his backing band (Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin, BNL's Kevin Hearn, The Skydiggers Josh Finlayson and Gord’s drummer) ran through four of his songs from his newly released Secret Path. Massey came unglued. I’ve been the most casual of Hip fans…and as a result, clearly, didn't realize what Downie ‘means’ to people. I, sure as hell, do now…
This year's concert highlights pour moi: King's X, Martin Sexton, Steven Wilson, Baroness, Snarky Puppy, The Sword, Hollywood Vampires, Alice in Chains, Tyler Bryant, X Ambassadors, Ghost, Jason Isbell. Heading to Albany to catch Clutch with Zakk Wylde (covering Black Sabbath) and Kyng, tomorrow night. Last Saturday night’s show will, likely, be the highlight of the highlights. It was...unimaginably special for so many (the students/the teachers/the parents of the students/the school’s staff/the bands/the musicians/the crowd...and Gord). I will…never…forget it.

Seeing Jonny Lang tomorrow night at the Canyon. Always good in a small venue like that. Made the first 2 purchases for 2017. Bruno Mars at the new TMobile arena in Vegas in July, and Eric Clapton and friends (Gary Clark Jr, others) at the Forum in March. Completely different but should be epic. Scored lower level seats for both at face which is great

So I'm going to end up at all 4 of these (of course). PUP were great tonight. Really good songs behind all the big guitars and group vocals. Thankfully with TPC being tomorrow I was responsible and drove and only had one beer because otherwise I likely would have ended up at the pit in the front which I'm too old for and would have injured myself.

Are we staying in here or starting a new one for 2017? I'll leave it for @Judge Smails to decide. 2017 starting to fill up a bit for me but strangely it's all Canadian and European bands so far, no Americans.

These guys put on an incredible show. This year's tour is an altogether new show, sounds really really good. Seeing them at the Detroit Opera House in March.
You will not be disappointed.

On a flight to Austin for a conference. Just saw that Don Henley is playing tonight at Austin City Lights Live. Concierge at the hotel said guest had an extra to the sold out show. Scored! Very cool. Huge fan

NYE show at The Opry House was great. Got there before the Hatch prints arrived, so us Jersey folks got to mingle with the locals in the merch area (outside?) for a bit before the show.
Opener was Kacey Musgraves, who has just a classic, clean sound to her music, accompanied by insightful lyrics. Nice mix of the newer "Pagent Material" songs with older stuff from "Same Trailer, Different Park" during her hour on the stage with her band. We were in the cheap ($75) seats at The Opry House, which is far removed from seeing Kacey from 25 feet at The Bowery Ballroom a few years ago.
Next up was Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit (with Amanda Shires). Our 6th Isbell show in 2016 had "Stockholm" opening into a set with mostly newer material + Codeine and Alabama Pines up front, saving Decoration Day for later in the set. DD was great tonight (especially with it's later slot in the set, allowing it to be immediately preceded By "Cover Me Up"), but the standout song for me this evening was a sublime "Flagship" featuring mainly Jason and his wife Amanda. Jason commented that being in the hallowed circle of the Opry stage required a standout performance and they delivered.
Surprisingly, a number of folks (maybe almost 10% of the crowd) left after Isbell and before John Prime took the stage at 1115ish. Not us. Our first Prine show and not being a Prine listener in the past, I found his lyrics really dynamic. Great band and I loved as we approached Midnight at 1157, he started another song. Midway through, out marches the lovely Musgraves (who was waiting in the wings with the other bands and family members) with champagne, but Prine just chugged through the rest of the song before we took our NYE countdown. At the end, he said that they did not know the words to Auld Lang Syne, so instead they led us through a rendition of "Happy Birthday" as "Happy New Year" with balloons coming down. Kacey then joined John for a few songs ("Angel Of Montgomery" was fantastic). After a few more with just John and his band, Amanda and Jason joined John for a few, as Jason was content with letting Amanda get the majority of the spotlight with one of her idols.
All said, a great night at The Opry House was had to close out 2016 and ring in 2017.

Henley was AWESOME
Its so different seeing real pros play. He had a huge band and they were all phenomenal. Played 2 1/2 hours of songs from 4 decades. All the hits (Eagles and his own) and some of his favorite deep tracks. Also did some songs from others including Tears for Fears. Sounded as good as he ever has. Dedicated several songs to Glenn Frey which they co- wrote. If you get a chance to see him on this limited tour do it. One of the legends and who knows how many more chances we'll get to see him
Oh - no phones allowed at concert and it was GREAT. They told everyone multiple times if you even took a phone out let alone take a picture or video you would be escorted out and they meant it. Anybody tried and security was on em in a second. Added to the experience. People just actually listened and enjoyed the music. You didn't have to look over 1000 phones raised taking videos. Wish this were the case at all concerts.

Totally agree with the video but people should be able to to a fast pic. Problem is it takes only 1 jackass to ruin it

Agree. I've been to concerts where the artist said for the next minute take all the pictures you want and then put them away for good. If that could be enforced would be great.
Definitely added to the experience not looking over phones. Focus was on the music.

Glad I saw this post, just saw him tonight and he was phenomenal. As were his female singers
He played Rainy Night in Georgia which I'd never heard before, awesome. Fox Theater is unreal acoustics. Best show I've seen in a while.
So, good decision to skip the lousy Pats game. Bad decision to split an 8ball with an ex-coworker and I didn't take today off.

Went to see Lez Zeppelin a couple weekends ago while in Annapolis, not really sure what to expect. The show had nothing to do with being lesbians (don't know if any of the band are or are not) but had everything to do with covering Led Zeppelin pretty damn well. The guitar player and singer are just great. Only drawback of the show is, well, they sound like Led Zeppelin who I've never liked. But they were energetic and damn good at what they did, and played 1:45 straight so we more than got our $$ worth. I'd go see them again; wife loved the show and sang more than she's ever sung in concert.

I'm so jonesin' to see Petty. Hasn't announced his West coast shows yet. Saw that Joe Walsh was opening at the beginning, then somebody else, then Chris Stapleton. Really, really hope Stapleton opens out here in CA. Mad respect. Whisky and You is a freakin' masterpiece.

Saw Stapleton last summer for the 1st time - excellent show. Wish he was opening the entire run as well - I think here out east, it's mainly Joe Walsh, who I also saw last summer for the 1st and last time (never been a big fan, now I know why).

Hard to argue that. Never been to Red Rocks. On bucket list. May have to do this. TTB is that good. Can't imagine how good in that setting.

Got my ticket for Opeth/Gojira/Devin Townsend Project for May 7th, then it was promptly announced that the same lineup plus Mastadon/Eagles of Death Metal/Russian Circles would be playing outdoors the night before in Philly. Might have to go to both.

my guess is that Petty plays a few shows out here in mid may before he plays bottle rock, at least I'm hoping that he does.
