If they retain him, it's just due to regret avoidance. It's pretty clear that they will continue to use Howard as an easy replaceable in-line blocking TE, whereas Brate will be used in the more premium receiving role (albeit limited with Arians). However, the prospect of "losing" a trade (and seeing Howard thrive in a different system) churns their stomachs.
Curious about your thinking on his long term value if he remains with TB. I’m asking bc I’m invested in 2 TE premium leagues. I also think he remains a long term value based on talent but I wonder how he recovers that value in TB. Maybe he plays better and justifies more touches? Or Arians is pressured to include him more?
It's a tough topic, I'm really not sure how I'd feel if we hit this offseason and he hasn't been traded. Seems like such an inefficient use of resources to not either use him to his strengths, or trade him for assets that you can actually use. I'd be disappointed if he stays in TB longterm, but I have no idea how I'd rank him or value him if the potential to get traded was removed from his potential outcomes.
That's what I ended up deciding as well. Was gonna offer Theilen for Howard and Curtis Samuel but didn't.
Probably best. I was a Howard owner in multiple leagues and it stung a bit. Still have him in one, but also have Henry there so feel OK.
thinking that is because they know in Boston that the Patriots asked about him last week and the need is so great. I don't know how the Pats could pay the price to get him right now.
Maybe Arians is just a tool and continues to not use the TE.
Yep I think it's posturing. Arians basically said he would get unloaded if the offer made sense, but they aren't giving him away.
This is the game to get him in. If not now then why did you draft him, start him 4 weeks, bench him and then cut him 2 weeks later?
Past the trade deadline for me in redraft. I’ll be happy with the outcome for my season with Howard if he just gives me this one week and then I can go back to Kittle.
He was getting pulled in the opposite direction and the ball was almost a full 2 yards away. The first angle was misleading and made it look like the ball was close to him.
I saw the second angle too. It didn't look like he got pulled that hard. I thought it was a really bad play.
Nevertheless, I'm encouraged by the 7 targets. So I think I'm gonna keep him around for another week or two as a TE2, just to see what happens.
