RB Alex Collins, SEA (2 Viewers)

PPR or standard? If PPR I'd hold Smallwood and Duke. If standard you could reasonably drop Smallwood for Collins
PPR. I'm just hoping for a lead back that breaks free from all these annoying time shares. I've got Carson, Cohen, Ingram, Smallwood, and Collins currently.

I also had and dropped West and Kamara recently who are both still on the wire.

If BAL was reasonable they'd use Collins on early downs but even that's not a given. Collins can catch and I don't think he's terrible in pass pro but as long as Allen is healthy I honestly don't think him becoming a 3-down back is a realistic ceiling. I would pick Duke back up if possible and just stick with what you have. You could honestly do a lot worse than your RBs IMO.

As a Seahawks fan, I was pretty stoked when we drafted this guy. The SEC pedigree and production was there and while he doesn't have the brute power and balance of Marshawn (few do), he seemed to have the body type and enough wiggle to be a potential heir. But in his time here, he always looked slow and plodding and ultimately JAG. Especially when being compared to Carson and a healthy Rawls & Procise.

He looked like a different back to me in that Jax game and now, as a Buck Allen owner, I'm trying to decide if I should cut bait with him and snag Collins before he repeats this week or if it will ultimately be just a flash and he goes back to being the nothing special he was in Seattle. I don't know if it's just a better scheme for him or if he's magically rediscovered his vision and burst but if he had shown any of that this preseason I think he'd still be a Seahawk and they would've bailed on Lacy sooner.

He still sitting on our waiver wire and I'd have to cut Allen to pick him him up. Part of me thinks I should know better since he was such a perpetual letdown in Seattle but I'm leaning that way.
Someone mentioned upthread that Collins dropped a bunch of weight. That might explain a better burst. Though the chronology is hard to explain... It's only been a month or so since Seattle cut him.

I tend to agree with this although a healthy Woodhead might be an exception. It may be that Buck Allen or Woodhead still have a significant role in the offense regardless.

What I don't like about your previous response to me is you saying that I am overthinking it. With a situation like this I try to turn over every rock I can find. It seems appropriate to do so before deciding to make trades or even just picking Collins up, you still have to drop something for him, so you are trading with the waiver wire. Also relevant discussion as far as people trying to decide if they will start him or not.

There are still many issues and considerations that haven't been discussed yet in regards to this. Your post struck me as an oversimplification of those details and saying that they don't matter. That all we have to do is watch the player, and that is not something I agree with.
Well....when it comes to the last bench position I have (which is where Collins is on both my redraft and dynasty team) it was really easy to cut loose a known quantity for my particular teams for a guy who on the film....to me, is going to give me an opportunity at be a legit starting RB at some point (and sooner rather than later IMO) which can be a nice depth addition or a asset for a trade to a RB starved team. I also don’t disagree when Woodhead get’s back that can make the waters murky. But Woodhead is a 3rd down specialist at this point in his career and is valuable in PPR leagues only.

But when it comes to Collins.....it is not over simplification for me. I have his college tape (which is tremendous) and now his NFL tape here with the Ravens......looks like a legit RB to me.

when another back eats all the China food, there's not much left for everyone else...

I tend to like your turning over every rock Bia.what "many issues" haven't been discussed yet? curious of we could start some good conversation in here about things you think might need a few words. anything better than people trying to catch weebs with his pants down with a "gotcha"

I'm not sure youtube highlights of Collins in college are super helpful, but I've seen them.  I don't know what people mean when they say "I watched his film" though.  Maybe they are talking about all 22, every play of each game.  I guess in this day and age, people can do that easily.  I watched Collins live for 3 years in Fayetteville, and away games I saw the tv broadcasts.  Take my opinion with grains of salt, but at least I'm not snowing anyone here.  What I remember from out college days:

Negatives: I think Collins benefited from BB's gameplan and ability to recruit great collegiate roadpaver OLs (this is what helped his dazzling college stats).  I don't remember Collins having great jets.  There is no "extra gear" like McFadden or Felix Jones.

Positives:  Better hands than anyone gives him credit for.  Great vision for running inside.  I have never seen a player run inside more competently than he did.  He actually has some power and knows when to use it and when not to (but I have never heard the nickname "beast mode jr" or anything of the sort on campus, maybe I just missed that, who knows).  Doesn't dance behind the LOS if he doesn't have to, he picks a lane and goes.  He can take on LBs when blocking.  He's got a few nice shake n bake moves that worked very nicely in college.  I don't remember him losing the football in college, but maybe he did a few times.  I'd consider him to be able to take care of the ball well.  Besides his outstanding interior line vision, I think his best trait is his durability.  He is definitely a tough SOB.

In fantasy I'm a buyer and not only because I'm a Razorback homer.  I think he can be a competent player for a few years.  I think his limited big play ability will leave a team wanting another RB, but his overall above averageness in all other aspects will help him keep a job.  I didn't really follow him much after Seattle took him and have no idea why he was cut there.  When Collins and Williams both left U of A, I frankly thought Williams would be a better pro, but here we are.  I'd love to see him take over the job at Bmore!

he fumbled 17 times and lost 9. no offense but if you don't remember that, i'm not really going to pay attention to your "scouting report."

I overthink everything. Like a dog chasing its tail I circle around decisions and information. People have been telling me that my whole life.

I agree with you in that Collins looks legit based on his college tape. Which is why I think it was relevant to discuss why the Seahawks didn't keep him.

I do think the context of Collins being in there with the back ups late in the game is something that should be considered, although some have denied that matters. Number 91 going after the QB instead of playing contain on Collins is an example of how game flow affecting how the defense is playing.

The Ravens may split carries with Woodhead or not, although Collins can catch the ball, they just may be committed to specialization, even though Collins seems very capable of being used as a receiver as well.

Anyone “can catch” whether they have been used to or not or will be used to is what is important. Absolutely nothing in Collins history suggests he will be a pass catcher. He had a terrible target share in college, he was never even hinted at that role in Seattle and, like the quote I posted earlier, West and Collins combined have been in on passing plays a 3rd as much as Allen. In today’s NFL you have to at least provide the illusion of catching passes. Just ask AD. A back like Ingram took several years to develop into an effective receiver out of the backfield. Allen has been used as a receiver his whole collegiate and NFL career.

Not sure that is the best example. While healthy and not on the saints he has been a top 5 RB every year.

Perhaps not in the historic sense but for what AD is now it does. Crowell, Hill, Blount are all examples of this in the modern game. If Prosise was healthy I think you would end up seeing it with Chris Carson too. There is a lot of pointing to garbage time stats here while ignoring peripherals that suggest Collins is JAG. Everyone loves bruisers or guys that can come in and flash until they have to be the focal point. His athletic metrics are bad, he adds nothing to the passing game and you’re making it too easy to dismiss a coaching staff that views West very favorably and has shown as much the past two years if you’re indicating him being the “thunder” back.

To summerize how I feel: if you bad mouth or wouldn’t own West, I don’t know why you’d own Collins (and I’m in too many leagues to not have owned both in some circles). You’re hoping for TD’s and volume because I don’t think we’re looking at the next Jay Ajayi here without something being very wrong with the workout metrics from when he was coming out.

16 team league and I activated him off my Practice squad and benched Buck just to wait it out and see how it goes

Now with Crabtree and Snead out I am starting him over Buck and Kearse.  Here's hoping

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Alex Collins is expected to see a "significant increase" in carries Sunday versus Pittsburgh.

The Baltimore Sun also hinted at this earlier, although Terrance West was working with the first-team offense during warmups. Collins has been excellent in terms of yards per carry to this point, but almost all of his production has come in garbage time. Still, Collins is worth grabbing in all fantasy leagues and makes West unusable. Buck Allen remains locked in as the passing-down back

PIT on the road huh. They got absolutely slashed by Howard and Cohen on the road last week. Cook was 12/64 the week before. The only RB who wasn't efficient vs. them was Crow 17/33 but Crow sucks.

I'm not quite ready to start him, but I'm grinning ear to ear with the latest news...
This. I'd hate to leave a break out performance on my bench, but I'm going to need all the points I can get having played Ty Montgomery and DeVante Parker. Going with someone more proven, and with a better matchup, but hoping Collins has a huge day and takes over as lead back for usage going forward.

The kid has his opportunity - let's see what he can do with it against a stout D.

Steelers Tuitt back in line-up after missing 2 games. He and Heyward said to be better team of linemates to stop opposing teams stretch zone run plays that Bears effectively ran in week 3.

Didn't cook suck
The entire team sucked but at the end of the day he still averaged 5.33ypc. And again that was a home game for PIT. The fact that this is a division rivalry does change things a bit but I think BAL should be able to keep this game close regardless. I don't see game script getting out of hand.

Rotowrong reporting his role expected to increase. I scooped him up in both my leagues as a wait & see, but I wouldn't start him today until I see how this all shakes out. It'd probably take a West demotion & an Allen injury for Collins to gain significant value.

If he displaces West as the starter he'll be flex-worthy.

Chickened out and kept Bryant in... even in a bad matchup he just needs 1 big play. If Collins starts or scores a touchdown I'm going to be sick. West was playing with the ones in warmups so yeah...

West warmed up with the 1s fwiw. I own him 2/3 leagues but not starting
