Dak Prescott, Vernon Hargreaves headline initial rookie rankings

Excerpt:

20) Robby Anderson, WR, New York Jets: This is a reward for an outstanding preseason. I didn't know much about Anderson two weeks ago, but I came away extremely impressed after studying his work this preseason. The undrafted free agent from Temple dominated opponents. He showed suddenness off the line, exploded out of the break point and caught the ball flawlessly. He wasn't playing against top-level competition, but Anderson jumped off the tape with his performance. I think he could have a role for the Jets this fall. I'm a fan.

What of the other Jet rookie Jalin Marshall?

Stock watch: Jets rookie Robby Anderson up; tight ends way down

Excerpt:

Robby Anderson, wide receiver: Jalin Marshall's fast start in camp overshadowed Anderson in the battle of undrafted wide receivers, but let's be real: Anderson has more upside as a receiver than Marshall, who brings added value as a returner. Anderson (six catches, 131 yards) had a huge game, hauling in a 42-yard touchdown and a 50-yard reception. He's 6-foot-3 and runs like a deer; it's hard to find guys like that.

What of the other Jet rookie Jalin Marshall?
He has a chance to be good. His ball control is shaky but his potential is Good enough that he made the team even with a fumble and a couple drops. If he can solve that problem, he will be a good player.

While Anderson had the better preseason, I left it thinking Marshall is the one with future star potential. Guy just look like he has the talent, despite being a little shaky at times. He looks like he'll be electric with the ball in his hands once he gains a little experience. I'm usually not a "homer" when it comes to fantasy, but added him in every dynasty league that I could.

Ha, I just noticed I don't have him in any of our leagues.

One point on Marshall that's a good one in his favor is that as the primary returner he should have more opportunity early on over Andwrson to be active on game day. I also noticed that Marshall was getting more time with the first team during the preseason games.

Yes he was, and I think that will continue. I think they will use Enunwa more as pseudo-TE and Marshall will see time in 3 WR sets.

Robbie was very very good in pre-season...  interesting to see him play some real game snow and if he can make an impact if and when devin smith comes back from PUP, he might force d smith off the team, ala milliner...

I grabbed him in Dynasty.   He looks like an excellent speculative add with the Jets WRs ailing and his physical talent level.

I don't see anything big happening this year unless Brandon Marshall gets hurt but he looks good.

I loved this kid in preseason and the physical skills are off the chart. As the WR3 he will have a chance to develop this year and next year look out.

Robby Anderson caught 4-of-6 targets for 24 yards in the Jets' Week 6 loss to the Cardinals.

His six targets tied Brandon Marshall for the team lead. The two incompletions were a couple deeper sideline shots that obviously weren't caught. Anderson is playing heavy snaps, but the production hasn't been there.

23 targets the last 2 weeks. Probably starting him this week over Ware in PPR (16 team league)

Petty is most comfortable throwing to Anderson because being down in the depth chart in the summer they worked together quite a bit.

Anderson will fight to get open if Petty is scrambling unlike those guys on the Eagles who don't help their quarterback.

I can't believe I'm contemplating starting this guy over the likes of ARob, Jeffrey, and Diggs. If you're starting him, who are you benching?

Gurley, Ware, Golden Tate, Robbie Anderson.  I have to pick two, and can make a case for all of them.  Can you imagine the reaction in August if someone had posted Gurley or Robbie Anderson?

lol so true! I actually like him over those other options...at this point in the year, i try and remove the name from the back of the jersey

I held off posting this until after waivers were run ...

Can't argue with chemistry and targets.

I rode the Meredith train until Hoyer went down with the same philosophy. This situation smells exactly the same, and with those targets, what's not to like as a WR3/flex type fill in playing on a team where the defense has thrown in the towel? I've seen this show a thousand times in fantasy, enter the no name WR trying to make an impact with the no name QB. It's like they made a side deal during these meaningless games where they make a pact to help each other out on the field. I just re-watched every snap of the SF game and Petty's eyes are glued to this guy's routes. The main risk is if the coaches try to force petty to throw to other players on the field after watching tape this week, so as not to be so predictable in future games, but I am willing to roll the dice on this guy as even if they try to coach him to spread it around, he ultimately makes the decision and will do what he is comfortable doing and what he has had success doing, which is throwing it to Robby.

Robby is no slouch in the measurables department either ... he has speed (4.34 40 time) and height 6'3". If the Amish rocket were still playing I'd go Enunwa or Marshall, but not with Petty back there.

A couple of weeks ago Brandon Marshall was on whatever NFL talk show he's on (with Boomer Esiason and Phil Sims) and Marshall drove the conversation to "future superstars like Robby Anderson".   I know Marshall's pretty supportive of his teammates, but he could easily have gone with Enunwa (having a nice breakout-ish year), Devin Smith (2nd round pick), Jalin Marshall (occasionally dynamic) - but he planted his flag with Anderson.  That really resonated with me.  I got the same vibe I got when Kelce raved about Tyreek in the preseason, and I picked up Anderson in both my 16 man leagues immediately.  I think he's for real and will be putting in a claim in my 12 man too I think.

I'll be flipping the same coin.  Of course, you know what Ware's gonna do the week we sit him?   ;)

I picked him up just now as an offseason stash. I don't see myself starting him the next couple weeks but he could develop into a WR2 in the future.  He needs to put some weight on and work on some stuff but he is the type of athlete I like to target.

Brandon Marshall talked up Enunwa in the summer. It even surprised me how good Enunwa played this season. He was my favorite player in 2015.

This is a good read on Anderson. Note at the bottom who Waldman recommends starting Anderson over.

ROBBY ANDERSON A MUST-START?

Quite a statement—even as a question. The Upgrade/Downgrade report on Anderson tells you why...

Anderson was the No.1 target for Bryce Petty for the second straight week. He came through with a strong game against the vulnerable 49ers pass defense and should be considered a WR3/Flex against the Dolphins in Week 15.

Anderson has 12 catches for 204 yards and a touchdown since Week 12. If you examine his targets in that span, it's a noteworthy development that Petty is in the lineup.

Best yet, he's earning 16 yards per reception. These aren't dink-and-dunk plays. Petty likes throwing down the field and Anderson is making plays against coverage.

Bloom notes that the Dolphins defense may have gotten the best of Carson Palmer, but the unit still allowed three touchdowns to Cardinals wide receivers last week. Scott Bischoff notes that only seven teams in the league have given up more passing scores than the Dolphins.

Ingel gives a balanced view of Anderson's potential in The Docket:

The backup QB to backup WR connection is really, especially if that backup WR is actually talented. Anderson stands 6’3” and ran a 4.36 at his pro day coming out of college last year.  He’s seeing an insane number of targets, occupying over 31% of Petty’s passes last week, going 6/99 on 11 targets, after seeing 12 targets and going 4/61/1 the week prior. While the catch rate isn’t amazing, volume is king and he is seeing a ton of it against a Dolphins secondary giving up nearly 40 FPG to opposing WRs over last 5 games. One word of caution, now that Petty has been practicing with Marshall and Enunwa for three full weeks, this backup-to-backup could come to an end at any time. But I say keep riding it against this suspect secondary.

My Advice: The Dolphins secondary has issues when quarterbacks buy time and these weaker corners and substitute safety Bacarri Rambo have to communicate and adjust. Petty and Anderson do well on these plays. Even if Marshall and Enunwa have earned more practice time with Petty, rapport usually doesn't come that fast.

If it does, keep in mind that Anderson isn't some out-of-nowhere pick. He's earned 6 targets a game with the previous Jets starters in 5 of the 9 weeks that he's seen at least double-digit snaps.

Anderson is not a must-start, but he's a good risk as a WR3 with WR2 upside. He's only scored once so the bet is on volume and a big play that isn't a touchdown. Player's I'd start him ahead of include: Allen RobinsonTerrelle PryorMichael CrabtreeRishard Matthews, an injured Michael ThomasDontrelle InmanSammy Watkins, and Julian Edelman.

Maurile Tremblay has Anderson as his No.24 receiver.  David Dodds and Sigmund Bloom are rating Anderson a WR4 and WR3, respectively. Put me higher than Bloom, but lower than Tremblay in regards to Anderson.

Good luck this weekend and may I see you all on the other side of Week 15 for the final installment of 2016's The Best Of.

Interesting that he has him above Crabtree. Does this mean he has Cooper higher than Crabs?

He might be a good one if he can carve out enough of a target share.......

On a side note he didn't catch that cleanly......still it was a nice play for those that started him.

I believe Anderson has a chance to be a future stud. Despite being a UDFA, he had some nice college tape & decent production. Really surprised he wasn't drafted considering his height/speed ratio (6'2"/4.34 pro day).

Anderson has some Randy Moss to his game & resembles him physically. He needs to get stronger, but that's the easiest thing to fix. Lots of headroom which means his ceiling is super-high given his physical attributes & ability.
