Tom Greer, aka Dalton Fury, was the senior Delta Force commander at the battle of Tora Bora. After he retired, he wrote one of the better books on the fighting in Afghanistan after 9/11, Kill Bin Laden. He died the other day of pancreatic cancer.
He also wrote a short series of fictional novels about a maverick Delta Force officer in recent years. The first two were pretty good, the third was so-so and I haven't read the fourth. While they weren't amazing books in terms of story or characterizations, I found the true-to-life details he was able to include as a real special operations veteran to be pretty compelling.
