I love this tweet thread.

Seriously, if you could go back 8 years and try to warn people that in 2020 there was a worldwide pandemic that shut the world down, there were protests and riots throughout the country, we had been in the brink of WWIII just months ago, and that President Donald Trump was running for his second term, how long would it have been before you were locked up in an asylum?
Running for Re-election after going through impeachment. And ####### murder hornets.

And in the Twitter thread the guy says you could show them the headline of the article about how President Trump had to be talked out of trying to nuke a hurricane :lmao:

Lost in the outrage over the absurd tweet about the elderly protester in Buffalo is the news that Stephen Miller(!) is penning Don's upcoming national address and that White House officials are "leaking" that Venezuelan socialists are linking up with BLM protesters in south Florida.

The hits never stop coming with this administration.

Dammit, I forgot to mention Kayleigh McEnany bragging today about Donald getting 8% of the black vote.
That was yesterday.

Today we’ve on the #votersuppression in Georgia.

Of the 7 largest voter precincts in Atlanta, 4 currently don’t have a single working voting machine.

• 6 hour lines to vote
• Hundreds of polling places closed
• States unprepared for mail voting
• Huge numbers of ballots rejected

Georgia's rampant voter suppression is gonna play hell with a bunch of confidence pool entries in November. How do you appropriately weight something like that?

But Wisconsin s/b fine by then, right?

(and by WI I mean Milwaukee)

:oldunsure:
I'm still not really convinced we're even going to get a chance to vote in November, given the rhetoric and previous tactics of Trump and the GOP.

You have got to be kidding.

Trump campaign demands CNN apologize for poll that shows Biden leading

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's campaign is demanding CNN retract and apologize for a recent poll that showed him well behind presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

The demand, coming in the form of a cease and desist letter to CNN President Jeff Zucker, was immediately rejected by the network.

"We stand by our poll," said Matt Dornic, a CNN spokesman.

Hopefully he doesn't give a national address, it's likely just going to make things worse. Specifically, he's going to do the "sides" thing, he will say that liberal democrats want to abolish the police, take away the 2nd amendment rights, etc. He's already been saying this, so I find it unlikely he's going to do a 180 to "bring people together". Can he do the togetherness thing? I don't think so. Therefore, just don't do the speech. The nation is better without it. We know what he is by now, so pro or con, just leave well enough alone on this issue.

Its a feature not a bug.

They can try, but with a Democrat controlled House, they'll have a hard time getting a harebrained idea like this to pass.

The Trump administration is stuck on elections because he hasn’t gotten any support from Congress, the red states or the military for his authoritarian bull####. Meanwhile the whole thrust for a month and through the election is and will be that America is coming back strong, everyone get back to normal, no need for masks and the like. - I think the strategy like we saw in GA but in key counties and precincts is where and how they’ll try to pull off a quick one.

Congress controls the election date, but they don't control the presidential election method.

Each individual state has the power to cancel its popular vote for president, and instead have their electors chosen by state legislators or another method of their inventing.

Which is kinda what scares some observers of this administration. Trump will try to do things that presidents traditionally don't do. But who's gonna stop him? Maybe worse, who's gonna support him? (I think some red state governors/legislatures will do whatever he asks them to do if it means him getting re-elected)

Milley’s statement is fantastic.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/i-should-not-have-been-there-milley-apologizes-role-trump-n1229876?cid=sm_npd_ms_fb_mj

As many of you saw, the result of the photograph of me at Lafayette Square last week, that sparked a national debate about the role of the military in civil society," Milley said in a prerecorded address to the National Defense University. "I should not have been there. My presence in that moment, and in that environment, created a perception of the military involved in domestic politics.

As a commissioned, uniformed officer, it was a mistake, that I have learned from, and I sincerely hope we all can learn from it," he continued. "We who wear the cloth of our nation come from the people of our nation. And we must hold dear the principle of an apolitical military that is so deeply rooted in the very essence of our Republic. And this is not easy. It takes time and work and effort. But it may be the most important thing each and every one of us does every single day.

Finally, a fair and balanced poll

When I first looked, I assumed it was someone trying to be funny and creating an absurd spoof.  I realized it's an actual Trump site.  Frightening.
As Mattis said, "Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us .... We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership."

Just another example of him accusing others of what he is doing.  Hey CNN, you put out a fake poll that is misleading and biased!

It's quite amazing actually - and not in a good way.

I didn't know where to put this but Devin Nunes' attorney admitted today that he's at a dead end trying to learn the identity of the Twitter account "Devin Nunes' Cow," against whom Nunes has filed a $250 million suit for slander. Twitter won't help Nunes locate the person, whose account has 700,000 followers.

"The only thing worse than suing a cow is losing to one."

:lmao:

Maybe we will see this in a tweet later today:

Daniel Dale @ddale8 6m

Trump says Americans want law and order even if they don't say it: "Some of them don't even know that's what they want, but that's what they want."

"We must build on our heritage, not tear it down". I'm sure this will play well to the 35-40% of the population that is his base, but that speech was tone deaf to the other 60%.

Overall it was an appalling speech. He lists the names of blacks killed by police, noting he just met with the families, then later talks about how great the stock market is and the latest great retail sales numbers.  He turned this into another campaign rally speech.

From excerpt of Bolton’s book... link

“In their meeting in Osaka on June 29, Xi told Trump that the U.S.-China relationship was the most important in the world. He said that some (unnamed) American political figures were making erroneous judgments by calling for a new cold war with China.

“Whether Xi meant to finger the Democrats or some of us sitting on the U.S. side of the table, I don’t know, but Trump immediately assumed that Xi meant the Democrats. Trump said approvingly that there was great hostility to China among the Democrats. Trump then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability and pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win. He stressed the importance of farmers and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. I would print Trump’s exact words, but the government’s prepublication review process has decided otherwise.“

WaPo has some stuff from the Bolton book too...

...“Bolton recounts numerous private conversations Trump had with other leaders that revealed the limits of his knowledge. He recalls Trump asking Kelly if Finland is part of Russia. In a meeting with then-British Prime Minister Theresa May in 2018, a British official referred to the United Kingdom as a “nuclear power,” and Trump interjects: “Oh, are you a nuclear power?” Bolton adds that he could tell the question about Britain, which has long maintained a nuclear arsenal, “was not intended as a joke.”

...Bolton attributes a litany of shocking statements to the president. Trump said invading Venezuela would be “cool” and that the South American nation was “really part of the United States.” Bolton says Trump kept confusing the current and former presidents of Afghanistan, while asking Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to help him strike a deal with Iran. And Trump told Xi that Americans were clamoring for him to change constitutional rules to serve more than two terms, according to the book. He also describes a summer 2019 meeting in New Jersey where Trump says journalists should be jailed so they have to divulge their sources: “These people should be executed. They are scumbags,” Trump said, according to Bolton's account.

Meh, who cares what Bolton has to say now. He had a chance to do the right thing and chose not to. Now we are supposed to praise him and give him our money?

I agree that he didn't do the right thing when he had the chance but that doesn't mean we should ignore what he has to say.
