WR Adam Thielen - CAR (3 Viewers)

Adam Thielen caught 3-of-5 targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 6 loss to the Falcons.

Thielen entered the game with a higher target share than Justin Jefferson, but it was another Jefferson breakout game (9-166-2). The Vikings have two stud receivers to work with if they ever choose to stop running the ball in neutral situations. Of course, the Vikings love to establish it at all costs. Thielen and Jefferson could rotate big games if Cousins stays in the 30-attempt range. He'll be a boom-bust WR1 against the Packers after the bye.

Adam Thielen caught 3-of-4 targets for 27 yards in Minnesota's Week 8 win over the Packers.

Thielen's performance is underwhelming on the surface, but note that Kirk Cousins was only asked to dropback and attempt 14 passes since Dalvin Cook (30/163/3) had no issues running all over Minnesota's front-seven. Thielen's four targets (as many as Justin Jefferson had) are disappointing if only because Packers CB Jaire Alexander instead shadowed Jefferson Sunday. Fantasy players can confidently go back to Thielen as a high-end WR2 with more volume in Week 9 against Detroit.

Adam Thielen caught 4-of-7 targets for 43 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' Week 10 win over the Bears.

Thielen scored the opening touchdown of the game with an impressive, one-handed grab in the end zone while blanketed by a defensive back. He ended the night with two scores but rookie receiver Justin Jefferson (8/135) led the Vikings with 10 targets. Jefferson's early-career breakout is capping Thielen's target volume on an offense that already wants to keep the air out of the ball. Thielen remains a high-end WR2 but Jefferson may be in the process of passing him as Minnesota's lead-receiver.

Vikings placed Adam Thielen on the reserve/COVID list.

He's the sixth player for the Vikings to go on the list in the last month. Thielen played 57 snaps (89%) against the Cowboys Sunday, roasting Dallas' secondary for 8/123/2, perhaps forcing both teams to undergo close-contact tracing Monday afternoon. It's more than possible that Thielen is cleared in time for Sunday against the Panthers.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Adam Thielen tested positive and then tested negative for COVID-19.

It's possible that Thielen had a false positive, but more testing will determine if that was the case. The Vikings are working with the NFL in determining his status. Thielen currently sits on the reserve/COVID list while waiting for more information. If Thielen is out for Week 12, Justin Jefferson would be a top-15 receiver. Thielen has 10 red zone touchdowns already.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Adam Thielen (COVID) is not expected to play in Week 12 against the Panthers.

Thielen reportedly experienced a false positive before the holiday but may not get cleared from the COVID list in time for Sunday's kick-off. He's currently awaiting more information and further testing before officially being ruled out. Justin Jefferson becomes an all too obvious WR1 without Thielen Sunday while Bisi Johnson and Chad Beebe will fill in sporadically behind him. Overall, expect coach Mike Zimmer to lean on Dalvin Cook even more without his team's No. 1 wideout available inside the red zone.

DFS Slant:

Thielan missing this week's game would lock in Justin Jefferson as Minnesota's WR1 against a burnable Carolina secondary. Jefferson is sure to be a popular Week 12 option in every kind of DFS format.

Sure hope he plays. Can't he still test negative before Sunday?
Following a positive test, if the player is asymptomatic, he can return once:

10 days have passed since the initial positive test; OR

Five days have passed since the initial positive test and the player receives two consecutive negative PCR virus tests at least 24 hours apart within that five-day period

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer expects Adam Thielen (reserve/COVID-19) to play in Week 13 against the Jaguars.

The Vikings held out Thielen despite a false positive test last week. He'll come off the COVID list and should return after missing only one game. Olabisi Johnson had seven catches for 74 yards filling in for Thielen last week. Thielen's presence will push Johnson back into four-wide sets.

Adam Thielen caught 3-of-4 targets for 39 yards in Minnesota's Week 14 loss to Tampa Bay.

He also nearly hauled in another one-handed touchdown grab in the back corner of the end zone but the ball instead bounced off his mitt. Both Justin Jefferson (4/39) and Thielen were kept quiet as Kirk Cousins instead depended on Irv Smith (4/63/1) and Tyler Conklin (5/40) for more receiving yards underneath while constantly under duress inside the pocket. This was still merely a blip on the radar for Thielen, who had recorded eight catches and/or multiple touchdowns in each of his three games prior. He'll rank as a high-end WR2 in Week 15 against the Bears.

Adam Thielen caught 8-of-9 targets for 97 yards and one touchdown in the Vikings' Week 16 loss to the Saints.

Game script broke Thielen's way in the fantasy finals. Minnesota was trailing big for most of the game, setting up Thielen for easy grabs in catch-up mode. With CB Marshon Lattimore on Justin Jefferson, Thielen had the easiest individual matchup among the Vikings' pass catchers, too. That helped him rack up tons of yardage in the second half. With just two minutes remaining, Thielen scored from one yard out. It was his league-high 13th red zone touchdown of the year. Incredible. Thielen will be an upside WR2 to close the season out against the injured Lions.

Adam Thielen caught 4-of-5 targets for 57 yards in the Vikings' Week 17 win over the Lions.

Coming off an injury-derailed 2019 season, Thielen stayed healthy, only missing one game as a COVID-19 close contact. It was the tale of two halves for Thielen, however. Before the Vikings bye, Thielen averaged 19.5 PPR points as Minnesota’s clear-cut No. 1 receiver, but Justin Jefferson appeared to leap him down the stretch. Possibly a warning sign for 2021, most of Thielen’s fantasy production came from his career-high 14 touchdowns, all but one of them coming from the red area. If he isn’t as dominant in the red zone next year, Thielen could easily drop out of the WR2 discussion. Expect the veteran to return to Minnesota for his age-31 season even though he doesn’t have any guaranteed money left on his current contract. His play warrants another season as Jefferson’s sidekick in two-receiver sets.

Even if 100% healthy, what are the thoughts about him this year with Jefferson looking like the alpha dog? He was very TD dependent last year and I see a meaningful drop off in what is not the most plentiful passing game with other options, too.

Adam Thielen caught 9-of-10 targets for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the Vikings' Week 1 loss to the Bengals.

Thielen picked up right where he left off in 2020, notching his first red zone reception of the year along with another score from 24 yards out. The veteran receiver was used extensively in the red zone last year and totaled 14 touchdowns as a result. While two touchdowns a week is an unattainable goal, he should be expected to be one of the betters bets among receivers to score a touchdown in a given week. He also saw one more target than second-year receiver Justin Jefferson. Thielen will be a high-end WR2 option in a fast game versus the Cardinals next week.

Adam Thielen caught 6-of-9 targets for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 3 win over the Seahawks.

Thielen continued defying regression in Week 3, scoring his fourth touchdown of the year on a red zone snag. He has now scored 18 touchdowns in his previous 18 games. Thielen is running hot on scoring but he does have one of the most robust red zone roles among all wide receivers, putting him in a position to score far more often than the average pass-catcher. He was out-targeted by Justin Jefferson and the second-year receiver now leads Minnesota in targets but Thielen's role within the offense is still large. He comes in as a high-end WR2 versus the Browns next week.

Adam Thielen caught just 3-of-8 targets for 46 yards in the Vikings' Week 4 loss to the Browns.

It snapped Thielen's three-game touchdown streak to open the season where he scored four touchdowns in that span. He was also the target on a deep shot on Kirk Cousins' fourth-quarter interception, the quarterback's first of the year. Thielen remains a focal point in the scoring area for Cousins and has seen 34 targets through four games for an average of 8.5 per week. Thielen will be an upside WR2 next week against the lowly Lions.

Adam Thielen caught 2-of-7 targets for six yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' Week 9 loss to the Ravens.

Thielen was tied for the team lead in targets, managing to salvage his fantasy day with a game-tying fourth quarter touchdown. Fantasy managers facing Thielen, meanwhile, are slowly turning into the "he can't keep getting away with this" meme. But as long as Thielen functions as Kirk Cousins' primary red zone target, he's going to have weekly touchdown upside. Thielen has been incredibly efficient with high-value targets, turning six inside-the-10 targets into four touchdowns this season. Thielen will be a mid-range WR2 in Week 10 against the Chargers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Vikings WR Adam Thielen suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 13 against the Lions.

Thielen will undergo further testing on Monday to determine how much time he'll miss, but he's likely out for Week 14, especially considering the Vikings have a short week before playing Pittsburgh on Thursday. K.J. Osborn will assume WR2 duties for Minnesota, and Justin Jefferson should see even more targets with Thielen sidelined. Jefferson set career-highs in receptions (11) and receiving yards (182) without Thielen on Sunday.

Adam Thielen (ankle) is out for Week 14 against the Steelers Thursday night.

The high-ankle sprain and short week was just too much to overcome for Thielen. With the veteran wideout sidelined, look for Justin Jefferson to command double-digit targets while K.J. Osborn picks up most of the slack as the third or fourth option on offense behind Jefferson, Dalvin Cook/Alexander Mattison, and perhaps even Tyler Conklin.

That's because the pundits were completely wrong about him. They've been trying not to mention him as he produces week in and week out.
It's like that every year with him though.   "oh he'll be a wr3 and will drop off" for the past few years.

The guy is just a TD machine. I hope he is able to come back later in the fantasy playoffs, the extra week added to the season makes it possible. I don’t need him till week 16 due to a bye week…fingers crossed

I thought the typical turnaround on high ankle sprains is about 4 weeks and even then it's a little sore and usually players need at least 1 game to work it out.

They didn't put  AT on IR and I think that was a sign they felt he could be back sooner vs later, he missed 1 game, would think he will miss MNF or be a GTD with very little to no practice and I wouldn't plan on playing him even if they float him as a decoy in 3-wide sets.

-I would not be planning on having hm in my line up and would stay away from tabloid injury updates that will be largely meaningless. Focus on who you CAN PLAY this week.

The Star Tribune's Mark Craig reports Vikings WR Adam Thielen (ankle) could be a game-time decision in Week 15 against Chicago.

Thielen missed Week 14 and has yet to practice this week. That's not a good sign for his status, but even a limited practice on Saturday would give him a chance to play. K.J. Osborn has scored the last two weeks in place of Thielen and would make another spot start if he doesn't get cleared.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Adam Thielen will test out his injured ankle before Minnesota's Monday night matchup with the Bears.

Thielen was listed as questionable despite not practicing all week, and it looks like the Vikings will take his status all the way to game-time. If he is able to play, Thielen will be in a good spot against a secondary missing every starter.

Adam Thielen talks with a fan at Soldier Field before heading into the locker room. I’m told team wanted to be cautious with his ankle, thus why he’ll be ruled inactive here shortly.

Video of him looking like a massive limp, then he went into locker room came out in tennis shoes.

He aint playing.

@Andrew_Krammer

Thielen already headed back inside with the training staff after only a couple minutes on the field.

@Andrew_Krammer

Thielen here with teammates in pregame warmups, but not running routes. Certainly looks like he's out for a third straight game.

Didn't see a massive limp, but appreciate the links!

Thoughts on Thielen this weekend? Leaning towards playing right? With Cook out maybe more opportunities for he and Jefferson?

Do we trust him this week in playoff games?? How’s he looked in practice, did he ever get a full practice in? Will he be hobbled or be his usual TD scoring machine self? I know it’s mostly guesswork but given how consistent he’s been this year I expected more chatter
