Anyone been to Normandy France? (1 Viewer)

Taking a three generation trip to Normandy, me, my dad, and oldest son.  My son is interested in WWII history and wants to see the beaches.

Tentatively planning on a couple nights in Rouen, couple in Caen/Bayeux, a night in Mont Saint Michel, and four nights in Paris.

Anyone been to any of those spots in Normandy?  Any must do places to see, stay, restaurants?

Quite a number of American visitors to three of their beaches some 73 years ago, In June, I believe. It never quite reached that popularity again...

;)

I still want to go on the Band of Brothers Tour.  I heard it was wonderful.  Very pricey though.  There are different ones.

It's on my bucket list.

Stopped there on a drive around France 25 years or so ago. Beautiful, moving.

I'd have to dig up where I stayed (if I even could), was just a post-college tour with a friend, so we weren't looking for anything great; and our timing wasn't specific, so we got lots of places spur of the moment.

I'll let you know in early August.

The ref family is doing an overnight in Bayeux a few doors down from the tapestry.

We leave and take a boat over to Portsmouth and up to London.  Then we are taking the Chunnel back to Paris.

id be interested to hear if you have anything lined up for a tour.  The #1 on TripAdvisor wants 500 euro for the day.

Yes in 2005 my wife and I went.  We did a few days of touring with Paul here is his site:

I highly recommend him.  We toured Utah and Omaha and he through in some band of brothers sites just for the hell of it.

If you can stop in at Honfleur on your way down from Paris you should.  Really cool little village.  Very picturesque.

And thanks for the tip about Honfleur as well.  Was thinking about a day trip to one of the cities on the coast, will definitely check this out.

I can respect this, but I'm out.

from his site:

There are plenty of other guides who will run single day tours that cover the Airborne sector and Utah Beach in the morning and Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach in the afternoon, and they can be excellent tours. One such tour is offered by my partner Magali. Her website is here. Her tours are especially aimed at families with children and female travelers. She is a Normandy-born passionate 1944 story-teller and her tours are highly regarded.
maybe he just doesn't enjoy dealing with kids. not defending, but I'd rather he be upfront about it.

The 'female" part don't get though?

Just sent her a note via her website.  I'll see how it goes.  Not a big fan of having to rent a car though.
