The Irishman: Pesci, De Niro, Pacino and Scorsese Movie - First trailer released (1 Viewer)

Joe Pesci has officially joined Robert De Niro and Al Pacino for Martin Scorsese's The Irishman.

Pesci is set to play Pennsylvania crime boss Russell Bufalino, a person of interest in the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa as well as running an entire East Coast mob operation. Al Pacino's deal is in the final stages to play Hoffa while De Niro portrays Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran. All three of the legendary actors will be digitally de-aged by Industrial Light and Magic to look 30 years younger, which should be interesting.

Hmm - This could be interesting.  Not sure i am okay with all of the technology going into movies these days but i could be wrong.

for the first real use of deaging.
are you aware of something different being used here from the past?  I am unfamiliar with the technology to know if something brand new is being introduced.

Digital de-aging, for me, goes all the way back to X-Men The Last Stand which was filmed in 2005 (it may have happened earlier but that was my first exposure to it).  It has been used in numerous movies since then.

My guess is that if ILM is doing this, they are going to build off of the work they did on Rogue One.

I can't think of many actors I'd rather see together for the first real use of deaging.
Very true...but the flip side is the intensity these guys brought to the screen then is burned in our brains...love the idea regardless.

This sounds very original.
As opposed to the flood of Star Wars, Transformers, Superhero, Star Trek, Pixar sequels that flood the market every year?

Personally for me a well made mob movie will be a breath of fresh air.

What was the last decent mob movie?  The Departed was 11 years ago and American Gangster was 10 years ago.

Marvel has been doing very well with live actors recently.

Robert Downey Jr.

Kurt Russell GOTG2

Oh, those generally suck. Though I did like Rogue One pretty well.

I'll probably see this film and likely will enjoy it, but it doesn't sound like it is going to be breaking any new ground.

Very little has the ability to break new ground.  Every story line, in every format, in every genre, has been made, ranging from great to horrible.

If your level of enjoyment is based on seeing some thing ground breaking, you are not going to enjoy many movies in the coming decades.

That movie with Leo where he spins the dreidal was pretty original. Dont remember the name.

Looks good- my only worries are it will be a bit redundnt as this is ground Scorsese has covered many times and all the CGI. I guess this is the first movie featuring anti-aging CGI that is being used to make the actors look younger for lots of flashback scenes. I am not sure how that is going to look

They may not be flashback scenes, per say.

It sounds like the movie takes place over many decades.  The first half of the movie will be the early years and will involve a vast majority of the CGI from what I read.

definitely watching that on the smallest possible screen. maybe my flip phone....
CGI Deniro looks ok in a few scenes in the trailer.

CGI Pesci looks off, I think his movements are too much like an old man to fit the younger face.

I can't make up my mind about CGI Pacino.  While the other two look like their younger self, young Pacino looks different to me, it might be the hair style.

At this stage, if this is anywhere close to Casino in quality, I will be happy.  I could have said, Goodfellas but lets get real.

Also, the run-time...209 minutes !

The early reviews are in...and they are better than expected.

this will be a good test for me. i'm typically a "the book was better" guy.  and since i've read the book, i'm a bit worried that the movie won't live up to the story as told in the book..... but my memory is fading faster than @AhrnCityPahnder's hairline so i might not be able to compare the two in my mind as i'm watching.
