Attempted to bump the old one but of course I couldn't change the pole.  Sigh.

So here we are.  The idea, mostly taken from the old thread:

Discuss all random TV thoughts here.  Shows that don't have threads, what you're watching now whether it has a thread or not, what you like, what you don't, assorted comments on shows with followings and megathreads that you (and we) don't want to wade through, etc.

Have at it!   :)

First of all, how are you?

Secondly, I haven't seen any of those shows. I voted other. But, can't really think of a show that I would nominate. The last series I watched was Narcos.

Lastly, how was your childhood?

Who voted for Victoria?  I threw that in because we have just started watching it and I assumed no card-carrying FBG would be doing the same.   Outstanding show.

lol nice thread title bud, and i can't figure out who to vote for. Seems like there are some on there that i need to catch, and that is a good list of shows to watch. I think i will have to go Legion, but man Blood Drive and Preacher are great new one's too. I am sure there are some others out there too

Voted for "Better Call Saul".

Has anyone watched "I'm Dying Up Here"? It is set at a Los Angeles comedy club in the 70's. Melissa Leo plays the owner, a character based on Pauly Shore's mom. It is kind of like that failed show "Vinyl", but with less over-the-top plotlines, and more inside baseball of the industry in that time and place.

It's not a bad show.  A big problem with it is that there are probably too many characters too soon. It's hard to pay attention to or care about a lot of the characters because they plot lines jump around too much.

And I can't stand the red bearded guy.  Just a giant tool.

The two younger dudes from Boston are pretty damn funny though.

Oh and the writers keep using 21st century language and phrasing.  Drives me crazy.

:thanks: Aerial.

Went with other for the poll..
Fargo, even though Season 3 was less satisfying then the first two seasons, was still a slight notch above Better Call Saul for me.

I was going to use this thread to talk about Salvation on CBS as it has been a OK Summer Series..

But then saw this blurb "The CBS summer drama “Salvation” set two new lows in both key ratings measures with back-to-back episodes airing on Wednesday night, according to Nielsen data." it seems safe to say it will be a short lived series.

I have the first episode of "The Sinner" on my DVR and based on some of the reviews out there it is worth watching. Will chime in once I watch a episode or two.

Same.  Please do post once you've seen it.  I'll wait for you then chime in.

stranger things is numero uno bromigos and anyone who says otherwise is numero dos if you catch my drift take that to the bank brohans

i also like preacher because my lady and i like to watch it and just go now wtf just happened right there boom both of our minds are blown up in to about a billion peaces take that to the bank bromigosabes

Of those listed I've seen, I think Saul is the best by far. Preacher is bat-#### insane and can be gonzo-fun (& also gonzo-stupid). Stranger Things was also a lot of fun, if completely derivative (I'm ok with that). And High Castle I'll stay with but the three leads are by far the most boring characters on the show.

It's tough to include Saul in there because of it's built in Breaking Bad audience that dwarfs the rest of them and will skew the results. Interesting to note though how there hasn't been a lot of new great shows over the past 2 years.

There's no way to know how it would be regarded without having seen Breaking Bad, of course, but I truly think it's the best out of them based on its own merits. I honestly think it's a great show and don't give a damn whether it ever gets to BB's timeline.

:goodposting:

I found Saul annoying on BB and was skeptical of a spinoff revolving around him. I'd put season 1 of BCS up against anything I've seen on TV. It was simultaneously the most compelling, well-written, well-acted show on TV and frequently hilarious. It hasn't been as funny since then but it's still excellent all around.

I agree and voted for Saul myself. Just saying that it comes in with a much bigger audience advantage. If it had the same audience size as the others, it wouldn't have gotten as many votes. Plus, it's had 3 seasons. I think it would be a better poll without Saul in it.

For what it's worth I struggled to include it knowing it would almost certainly win but I erred on the side of over inclusiveness.

I do not understand how you can find Juliana boring.  She's wily, clever, resourceful, knows martial arts as they remind us once per season, and she bears a striking resemblance to Alexa Davalos.  Frank I'll give you.  I never warmed to his character despite his early tragedy.

She did get a little more interesting later in season 2, so maybe the writers finally figured out what to do with her.

Westworld is missing from the list. I would put that a close second behind Saul. I haven't gotten around to watching Taboo yet but that's another one.

Agh, I knew had forgotten something that I liked and watched every second of.  Well, it's officially a deficient pole.   Anyone know if I can replace it from time to time?  It didn't seem like I could, hence the new thread.

We watched the first episode of Room 104 on HBO and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to more.

We're also almost finished with Season 2 of Catastrophe. (Amazon) It can be a tough watch at times because they can be a miserable couple and are pretty crude but if you're into dark humor, it's a good show.

watched the 2nd episode of room 104 last night. not sure what to think of the show, but good so far.

also, show I have heard about comes on tonight called Mr. Mercedes, on the audience channel on DireCTV. I saw a creepy clown on the commercial so I am in so far. I think there may be a thread about it, but AA's home for shows not warranting their own thread may be good for that one.

while I am here, two shows I have wanted to like for some time are the Strain and the Myst. I'm still trying the Myst, but so far it is kind of ehh. And I want to like the Strain, but holy hell I really do not like the main protagonist in that show. Dude is so annoying, and I think it has been the death knell of a few shows when they get someone who comes in and wants a large role. I know there was that other show about the alien invasion with the dude from ER or something who was a history teacher all of a sudden turned into a bad ### that feel flat I think because of it

I have Mr. Mercedes set to record and am looking forward to Mindhunters on Netflix in October.

Still watching The Strain and enjoy it enough to keep going. Not sure how anyone survived the end of last season but whatever...just roll with it. Haven't checked out The Mist and probably won't.

My GB is one of the creator/producers. Glad to hear it's good... her last one kind of crashed a bit.

Catastraphe was very funny dealing with some darker material. Sad to see Carrie Fischer

haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I will give a quick plug to Blood Drive. Silly horror show, but enjoyable

I voted BCS but I really liked Feud and rank it a close second. I haven't watched Ozark...yet.
I really liked Feud too and am glad they both got nominated for an Emmy. Although, I would've loved the irony of only Sarandon getting it. :D

We finished Victoria.  Only after watching it did I learn that it had spectacular ratings, almost Downton levels.  Maybe it was the added appeal to households like ours where the guy really wanted to watch the period piece more so than usual with the gal because Jenna Coleman was the lead.     (Although I watch most period pieces with my SO in any case; Reign on the CW was an unexpected treat for four seasons.)  In any case it was outstanding; the costuming and set design was amazing, all of the actors were very strong, and the writing was crisp and fast-moving, as the first eight-episode season covered three years.  S2 coming in January.

I'm not a Victorian-era expert by any means but it did seem to me that they stuck to the main historical plot pretty closely.  Nothing felt totally outlandish or anachronistic.  There was a fantastic episode late in the season that focused on the development of the railroad and Prince Albert's keen interest.

Nice thread idea.

I voted for BCS because it has probably been the only show I watched weekly or binged opening weekend. Since most of the characters and storylines are related to another show that ran for 6 years and that is in the conversation for best show ever it is hard to compare any other new show, there is an inherent bias.

Other new shows I have seen and would recommend:

Tier 1:

Westworld https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuS5huqOND4

The Man in the High Castle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzayf9GpXCI

Stranger Things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWxyRG_tckY

This is Us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hljQfJLQmaI

The Rest (none of these will win awards but still entertaining):

Goliath https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rhynm3kk18

Sneaky Pete https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiHCtexwuZg

Patriot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx-lLeKkqEQ

Ozark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hAXVqrljbs

Flaked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKOpvm7BcOo

Travelers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99LZwZmSoNo

Not a cord cutter, yet, just a big fan of binging shows. Maybe this thread will turn me on to some network shows to check out.

Thanks.  Appreciate those links.  Hopefully the thread will catch on.

I'm a huge proponent of The Man in the High Castle.  Just thought it was riveting TV.

We watch a lot of network shows: all four DC superhero shows, for example, as well as Designated Survivor, S.H.I.E.L.D., Blindspot, The Blacklist, and several others.

After finishing Victoria, we started The Crown (another show I left out of the pole - worst pole ever  :ptts: ).  I liked the first episode a lot but can already tell that I will probably end up preferring Victoria.  But The Crown is excellent and I'm glad to hear that we started watching it when S2 is imminent, and that they are planning six full seasons.

Have now caught both episodes of The Sinner.  Despite being a Jessica Biel fan from way back in the early days of the Internet (the famous pictures that got her fired or offscreened or whatever from 7th Heaven) I have not really seen her in much.  She's impressing me so far with her acting choices.  I'm trying to decide if this is going to be a strictly real-world-based police mystery or incorporate supernatural elements through the religion angle.  Betting on the latter.

I heard rumors of an M Night Shyamalanman Oxygen series about sentient plants...

...what happened on that front?

My root was turgid at the news!

EDIT: Oh, I voted for Better Call Saul.

. . . of course you did.

The MNS series, entitled Plant This . . . With A Twist!  has been greenhoused, er, greenlighted by Oxygen (and its sister network, Carbon Dioxide) for fall 2025.

Gah///

Gotta roll with the cycle I guess... :(

Good news is...

....plants live in a time dimension that is much slower than ours. Thus, to them, this soon to be hit is just a few "days" away! :)

Thnx AA!

But wait, wouldn't that make the series, to the plants, even MORE DISTANT in the future?
No, NO, NO!!!!!

This is why we need a "sentient plant specialist", such as myself, here...GB AA!  :excited:

When the plants internal clock's tick slower, they experience fewer "moments of consciousness" per second (human defined second, that is)...

...thus...over the years, until this KICK-### series kicks off...

...they will consciously experience fewer "clock ticks"...

....resulting in the internal experience of less time flowing...

...I think...

@Galileo has a better understanding of relativity than I do....so...maybe he can correct any errors I may be making.

I know it's not cool to admit, but I found Matt LeBlanc's sitcom "Man With A Plan" to be pretty good. It is nothing original, and he's basically playing a grayer, pudgier, middle-aged version of Joey Tribbiani, but the writing was sharp, with a good quota of one-liners.
