*WFT WR - Adam Humphries (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I had to pick him up in a deep league last week and really liked what I saw from him.  Good routes, good hands, doesn't go down on first contact.  Seems like he is in an ideal situation to clean up in PPR leagues.  Teams have to respect Evans and D. Jackson deep, leaving Humphries room to work underneath.

Here are a couple news clippings that have me optimistic about him vs the 31st ranked Patriots pass D tonight.  I think he will be a good spot start this week and should put together a solid season the rest of the way.

(dynastyleaguefootball) Tampa Bay receiver Adam Humphries continues to see an uptick in targets.

Analysis: Humphries is likely sitting on your waiver wire as you read this and, while not an overly dynamic player, he has logged 17 targets in his past two contests. In the last two weeks, Humphries has turned those 17 targets into 12 receptions and 138 yards. Nothing to write home about, but in PPR formats and with bye weeks now upon us, he may be a valuable last-flex addition this week. It's also notable to mention that as a Buccaneer, he is already beyond his bye week due to the hurricane event in week one.
Humphries has run only four fewer routes on the season than Jackson and offers WR4/flex appeal in deeper PPR leagues. Dating back to last season, Humphries has at least six catches in three of his last four games. Humphries runs nearly 80% of his routes in the slot. As Eric Rowe (groin) appears unlikely to play, the Patriots will likely turn to special teamer Jonathan Jones at slot corner.

Starting him in my flex over Engram. Only thing is I am also starting Evans and hate starting two WRs from same team but should be high scoring game.

Seriously debating grabbing him and starting him at flex over Martavis Bryant in a PPR.  I feel like he'd have the higher floor, but I'm going to kick myself if I miss Bryant's blowup game

I'm not intimately familiar with NE's secondary although I know they suck and each have allowed QB passer ratings of 100+ when thrown in their direction. Their slot corner Eric Rowe, who was terrible anyway is out this game with an injury. Maybe someone with more knowledge of this situation can clue me in, but I think Humphries will be matched up against Jonathan Jones who can't be much better than Rowe.

What I do know is that Hill put up a 7/133/1 line while playing out of the slot (although not primarily), B. Ellington a 5/49/1 line, B. Coleman a 4/82/1 line and Funchess a 7/70/2 line (although not primarily). I mean, I don't consider anyone to ever be an absolute lock but you have to imagine Humphrie's floor is rather high in PPR tonight. TB is banged up on defense themselves and Humphries has seen 17 targets through-out 2 weeks while TB has either been playing from behind or in a shoot-out (at least partially due to defensive injuries).

Not sure what to do here. I've got Martin in my lineup right now at Flex and Humphries on my bench. I can't decide what to do. On one hand I think I should leave Martin on the bench since it's his first game back and see how he does and what kind of shape he's in but part of me also thinks TB will want to run the ball a lot to keep the ball out of Brady's hands. Does Martin get the bulk of the carries? Will TB, being so decimated by injuries to their defense be able to slow down NE? If TB gets down big early they will be passing which will make Humphries more valuable. I think a floor of 12 and ceiling of 18 in my full pt ppr league is what i could get out of Humphries tonight but is my floor and ceiling I could expect from Martin tonight. I'm torn on what to do and will make the wrong choice whichever one I do decide on. What should I do?

Adam Humphries is so irrelevant that if you look the word “irrelevant” up in dictionary you won’t even find a picture of Adam Humphries.

I've always compared Humph to Beasley. Beasley is better and more like Jamison Crowder tbh. Humphries has also reminded me of Thielen too, but Humph isn't that consistent or big. Shifty for sure, but not gonna fake you out too much on his routes.

According to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com, Adam Humphries is "well entrenched" as the team's slot receiver.

Humphries set career-highs in both catches (61) and receiving yards last season (631) but wasn't a factor in fantasy. That trend should continue as the Clemson alum will face significant competition in a loaded Bucs' receiving corps featuring perennial All-Pros Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson, up-and-comer Chris Godwin as well as tight ends Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard. It will likely take an injury to Evans or D-Jax for the 25-year-old to gain any fantasy relevance.

He seems to be becoming a bigger part of the game plan every week. 8-for-80 today with two TDs and they even designed a nice run play for him as well.

Trend or trap?

Trend. I like to look at targets to see if a guy is consistently being targeted and that helps me see how likely he is to be involved any given week. The last three games Humphries has 8, 10, and 8 targets.  He won't score as often as today of course--but I think he is going to be a pretty reliable 5-50 as a floor going forward, which makes him a decent WR3.

Like him more now with Fitz, but the dude is really 1 of 6 options for the Bucs. Evans, DJ, Godwin, OJ, Brate and Hump. Take your guess which one is the play each week.

PewterReport.com's Scott Reynolds reports the Bucs are not expected to re-sign slot WR Adam Humphries.

This was expected. The team believes it will get an opportunity to match whatever offer the 25-year-old slot specialist initially receives, but Tampa Bay still expects to lose him due to his financial requests. Humphries is believed to be seeking $8M-$10M per year — an amount he can easily command in the market whether it's deserved or not. His departure would undeniably send Chris Godwin's fantasy stock soaring (and rightfully so) over the next month.

Titans signed WR Adam Humphries, formerly of the Bucs, to a four-year, $36 million contract.

Not quite dynamic but highly efficient, Humphries posted better than a 70 percent catch rate in his final two years with Tampa Bay and gives Marcus Mariota a bankable possession solution between Corey Davis and Taywan Taylor. Humphries, 26 in June, broke out for season highs in catches (76), yards (816), and touchdowns (5) in 2018 as one of Jameis Winston's favorite targets.

I was really hoping Belichick would have made a play for him, but we all know Bill likes to wait and collect the castaways later in the offseason.

Reasonable contract for an underrated WR. I wish the Lions would have signed him for that, but they got their guy in Amendola.
Promlem is Amendola is turning 34 this season and is a stop gap at best. I'm with you, Humphries would have been a great replacement for Tate and they really miss Tate. I also kind of thought they might sign Cook at TE but if they want to change this to a running team I guess James is a better blocker.

I was hoping for Humphries to the Lions as well. I assume this means a slot WR is going to be a major priority (2nd round?) in the draft.

Also what does this mean for Taywan Taylor? Is he on the outs?

Trying to read the Titans WR situation for several years now has been like reading your horoscope in the newspaper. One week <player X> is really impressing in camp. Two weeks later he is on the roster bubble.

(Shrug) In two years Taylor has a cumulative stat line of 700/2. His roster spot is probably still safe because he's cheap and battling guys like Sharp and Jennings, but keep in mind Sharp's best season has been better than Taylor's best season. Spending that much money and draft capital on Humphries/Davis probably means TEN is less likely to draft one, but a day1/day2 WR in this draft could bump Taylor/Sharp/Jennings down the pecking order or make them expendable altogether imo.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic about Danny. I dislike that signing.

Not excited about the landing spot as he could be a 100 catch guy in the right offense. The run-first mentality teamed up with an injury prone QB puts him down several notches in my book. Love the player but not the situation.

NFL Update‏ @MySportsUpdate 23m23 minutes ago

This is interesting: Adam Humphries verbally agreed to a deal w/ the #Titans on Monday. On Tuesday, the #Patriots came in & offered him a deal w/ a larger AAV & guarantees than the Tennessee deal, per @DougKyed. Humphries didn’t change his mind and stayed committed to Tennessee.

Got to root for such a guy. Sort of the opposite of what Emmanuel Sanders did to the Chefs.

They have interviewed  Ashton Dulin twice including a long visit at the Combine that got them warned for time limit violation. He is projected to go from 3rd thru UDFA so basically, no one knows where. The Titans are excellent at landing UDFAs and many think that no matter what, this is a late guy. Even if the shine comes on him, it'll fade during the draft.

They irritate everyone with how much they play Taywan during the summer, how well he does, and how little he plays in-season. It's illogical.

The Titans are likely to trade a WR and have reports of offers for Tajae and many for Taylor. The Steelers (interesting since Cosell compares him to AB) have inquired twice about Taylor. Now the word is that deals were close but they'll wait til the draft gets near.

The why-

Jennings was the top KR and is their last WR which is probably 5th. (Don't forget he has played S, CB, RB, and WR in the NFL and is useful too) He is locked in. They often keep four, sometimes five, and having six and seven last year was just too much to expect again. If we go with five you've got Davis, Humphries, Jennings and two of Batson, Taylor, Tajae, Roger Lewis, and Devin Ross (AAF).

Batson is limited but he is holy geesh quick and can be useful for a quick pass. Probably gone but stranger things have happened and there's no market for him.

Roger Lewis rode their practice squad and now has a full offseason. He was a good backup in NYG when he was there. He was also thrust into a starting #1 OBJ role in NYG due to FOUR WR injuries one year. He's a curious guy. He took his lumps and looked "pretty good" and made way more tough catches than a "pretty good" WR should have to in NY that one year. He's gonna push things. I don't know if he makes it or not, but he's gonna push things. He's slowish and has reliable hands like Sharpe. I think it's between them two. Taylor is the most marketable though.

They don't really have a need or patience to draft a WR highly. Marcus had a bad year last year and that followed a meh year. In the NFL, coaches and GMs lose jobs when QBs don't pan out. He is in the last year of his deal. While there is strong confidence within the Titans about Marcus, some in the league think he's not the guy. They've had a top ten D that has tinkered in the top 5 the last two years. They were the top (allowed) scoring D for much of the year last year. The offense hasn't done their part. Much of the blame has been given to the OCs but Marcus is starting to catch blame too. All of this plus sooo many failures picked high at WR and I just don't see it.

When the Titans first paired Delanie, Rishard, and Marcus, Marcus was always going to the center of the field and defenses were aware and it would really seem congested. A simple change to make (slot WR) Rishard Matthews play outside fixed this right up. They also line Delanie in the slot and like giving the big fella some room there especially if teams are crazy enough to put a CB on him and let him "box out" and catch a pass.

I think Humphries is really Rishard's replacement.

I imagine they will try him in the slot where he's comfortable and see how it goes, but I think he winds up outside. Matthews was a top ten WR on 3rd down efficiency for a few years and that seems to suit Humpries IMO.

Don't forget Jonnu's development. He looked real good for 2-3 games before he got injured and his position coach is now the offensive coordinator. When Delanie returns, I wouldn't expect Jonnu to become "just a blocker." The Titans play a ton of 2 TE and he probably gets more looks than most secondary TEs in that set. Yet another, Smith learned from Joe Gibbs and Mularkey so we know the TEs are going to get work. This too, I think, leans toward Humphries outside.

He's a good slot receiver and the contract he received proves the league thinks so. The problem is that the Titans appear to be a run heavy team with a less than average QB.  He will probably be at best third in line for targets after Davis and Delanie Walker.

Still, he is a good player so his situation bears monitoring.

Adam Humphries chemistry with Marcus Mariota is "a work in progress."

Humphries has been on more than half of the Titans' passing plays, but he's only been targeted three times in two games. And to make matters worse, he has a whopping four receiving yards. Humphries points to third downs as a place where he and Mariota need to get on the same page, but there's almost zero ceiling for Humphries in fantasy with Corey Davis, A.J. Brown, and Delanie Walker being more involved.

Adam Humphries caught 6-of-9 targets for 93 yards in the Titans' Week 3 loss to the Jaguars.

It was a big night for Humphries after he entered the proceedings with three receptions for four yards through two games. 3/47 of Humphries' production did come on the Titans' futile final drive. The slot man did manage to make a big play early on Jalen Ramsey. Humphries will have more days like today, but they will be impossible to see coming. He will remain off the re-draft radar vs. the Falcons in Week 4.

Stinks because I could potentially own CD, Brown, and Hump in my Dyno (Hump on waivers). I believe in all three talent wise...but I am not the most patient owner. Next year they have to have a different approach right?....(offensive philosophy and QB)

Titans placed WR Adam Humphries on the COVID-19 list.

Cameron Batson and Humphries are the two players the Titans failed to disclose that tested positive for COVID-19 Friday morning. The organization isn't expected to return to the field until all cases have either subsided or been contained, so we should expect Humphries to be available whenever Tennessee's facilities reopen. The Titans' weekly schedule is currently touch and go.

Titans activated WR Adam Humphries from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Humphries spent 12 days on the list after the Titans' outbreak and missed last night's win over Buffalo. With A.J. Brown back in the lineup off a knee issue, Humphries will go back to his low-volume slot role behind Brown, Jonnu Smith, and Corey Davis in the target pecking order.

Titans placed WR Adam Humphries on injured reserve with a concussion.

Humphries missed Weeks 9-12 with a concussion before returning and catching one pass for nine yards in Week 13. His symptoms then reappeared. Not good. The slot man will be ineligible to return before the Titans' regular season finale in Week 17. With Jonnu Smith battling a knee injury, the Titans are running low on healthy pass catchers behind A.J. Brown and Corey Davis. TE Anthony Firkser could be the primary beneficiary of Humphries' absence.

The Titans are "continuing to monitor" Adam Humphries three months after he suffered a concussion against the Bengals.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson was vague about Humphries' status after he returned for just one game following a frightening concussion on November 1 against the Bengals. “There’s nothing more important – we’ve said it a million times – than the health and the safety of our players. That was a pretty tough hit he took there,” Robinson said. “We’re just continuing to monitor and talk to the doctors and talk to Adam (Humphries), and make sure he’s back to normal and just kind of see how that goes.” Humphries, the team's slot receiver, will count for $9.47 million against the cap in 2021, making him a cut candidate. With Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith, MyCole Pruitt, Geoff Swaim, and Kalif Raymond scheduled to be free agents this offseason, A.J. Brown could be the only Tennessee pass catcher returning for the 2021 season.
