Dynasty: Kalen Ballage, RB Arizona State

Recommended Posts

I have both Drake and Ballage on my dynasty roster. Drake will be traded and better days are ahead for Ballage when they rebuild the OL next year.

There is nothing to do with this dumpster fire of a team right now, but sit and wait.

And my dynasty team right now is also the suck. We are also rebuilding after a decade and a half of decadence.

Ballage was a fine dynasty stash with upside, but this 'trust the process's rebuild all but kills his value.  Any player that gets out of Miami has more value elsewhere (even as a backup).

You can't trade him. All you can do is sit and wait. But the Fins are sitting pretty with ton's of cap space and draft picks. People will be shocked how quickly it does turn around. Starting next season.

A lot can be done with 12 draft picks and over 100MM in cap space, no state taxes and our weather. A brand new culture, coach and system. I have no choice but to buy in and hope.

A lot can be done.  Including bringing in a new running back.

If Balladge has any sort of role next season with the Dolphins I'd be shocked.

I'm not sure where this mythical redraft values coming from either.

He's atrocious as a receiver and terrible lateral movement as a runner. I don't see his time long in the NFL as a RB.

If you're going to grab someone hoping..... praying.....for anything this year/beyond (assuming Drake dealt), let it be Mark Walton. If the Phins can get ANYTHING in return for Balladge, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Kalen Ballage logged a season-low eight snaps in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Chargers.

He was in on just 15.4 percent of Miami's snaps, serving as the awkward third wheel to Kenyan Drake (28 snaps) and fellow sophomore Mark Walton (13 snaps). Ballage's benching was long overdue as the 2018 fourth-rounder has been abysmal this year, averaging a sluggish 1.5 yards per carry on 19 attempts while somehow faring even worse as a pass-catcher, dropping three of his seven targets. It goes without saying that Ballage should be nowhere near fantasy rosters right now.

Once he dropped another pass early in the game he was benched.

He has looked awful.

He doesn't belong on an NFL roster. Been obvious for awhile. Which is why he's on the Dolphins. Match made in heaven.

Clown music should be playing anytime they throw him a pass. Just comical he's even stepping foot on an NFL field because he doesn't belong there as a RB. He has zero lateral movement. If he's on a NFL team's 53 ext season, consider me shocked. I'd consider it an upset if he even lasts the season on the Dolphins roster even in a tanking season. Guy is just so FN brutal it's embarrassing.

Holy sh** I can’t believe I got greedy / fell for the dwindling hype and took this guy over Mattison at the end of the draft, despite telling myself in advance that the only way I draft Cook is if I also get Mattison. Now I cringe after every single hit Cook takes.

Will this guy have any value moving forward after the Drake trade?

Based on the last couple posts, probably not

I guess it's possible.  There will be more opportunity now.  But it would take a big turnaround.  He has looked comically bad this year.  Like literally throw a laugh track behind a half dozen plays and you could make a Charlie Chaplin sketch.

I guess it has "clicked" for guys before and guys who were out of their depth suddenly became good players, but it's not something I would count on.

I'm really desperate at RB on one league and Walton is already on a roster, so who will be backing up Walton if not Ballage?

Kalen Ballage rushed 20 times for 43 yards in the Dolphins' Week 10 win over the Colts, adding four receptions for two additional yards.

Ballage was pretty much as advertised, failing to get much of anything after contact unless he managed to get a head of steam and wide-open lane beforehand. The Dolphins didn’t make an effort to get their other RBs involved, so expect Ballage to once again have a near three-down role in Week 11 against the Bills. He’s a low-end RB3 on volume alone, but don’t expect much of a ceiling from one of the league’s least-efficient RBs.

Scintillating 2.15 YPC.

Kalen Ballage rushed seven times for 13 yards in Week 12 against the Browns.

This is an improvement from last week, when Ballage rushed for nine yards on nine carries. Ballage lost some work to Myles Gaskins and Patrick Laird, but the Dolphins didn't even try to establish a running game while playing behind. The plodding Ballage has looked like one of the worst starting backs in recent memory. It won't be surprising if Ballage takes a backseat to one of Gaskins or Laird in Week 13.

... THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!!!

Kalen Ballage left Week 13 against the Eagles with a leg injury.

This was a non-contact injury, so it'd be surprising if Ballage isn't done for the day. He was later carted off. This had the looks like of a potential season-ender. Myles Gaskin and Patrick Laird will form a two-back committee with Ballage out.

Dolphins placed RB Kalen Ballage on injured reserve with a leg injury, ending his season.

The exact nature of Ballage's injury remains unclear. Ballage was quite literally historically bad before going down, averaging a mind-numbing 1.82 yards on 74 carries. Since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger, no runner with that many carries had averaged below 2.25 yards per carry. Ballage is simply the easiest player in the NFL to tackle. Although he does not turn 24 until later this month, Ballage figures to be on the outside looking in of a 2020 53-man roster spot following this year's disastrous display.

The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero expects Dolphins RB Kalen Ballage to miss the team's final 53-man roster.

Ballage actually led the Dolphins in carries last year, falling down for 1.8 yards per attempt on 74 runs. With Matt Breida and Jordan Howard added this offseason, there's clearly no need to keep the 24-year-old around for another go at it. This prognostication is also tremendous news for Patrick Laird since he sneakily projects as Miami's third-down back if he does in fact win the No. 3 job over Ballage. Howard will likely handle goal line reps while Breida leads the team on early downs.

Time to wrap this one up.

Dolphins waived RB Kalen Ballage.

Ballage infamously averaged 1.8 yards on his 74 carries last season behind one of the worst offensive lines of the decade. The Dolphins had to upgrade their running back room, and they did so by acquiring Jordan Howard and Matt Breida. They also claimed rookie RB Salvon Ahmed on waivers today. Ballage isn't a lock to land on a 53-man roster this season but will likely get another chance to show he's healthy via try out or practice squad. He ended up on injured reserve in 2019.

Ah, okay. Still stupid. What on earth are they hoping to accomplish with him other than eating up a needed roster spot?

He can play FB.  He's still got 2 years left on a rookie deal which costs almost nothing.  He could play a bit of RB if they use Bell as a WR more.  Gase loves him, he drafted him.... this way guarantees he ends up there and probably cheaper than if he was a FA.

I don't see a TON of downside to it.

It's just...the Jets and Gase. It's terrible all around. They're wasting a shot at a franchise QB by surrounding him with nothing on offense. As Rich Cimini Tweeted yesterday: "Hey, Adam Gase. I showed up at practice yesterday. Your offense didn't."

Harsh words from a beat reporter, no? The Jets are a disaster on offense right now, and it doesn't look to be getting any better.

ya I'm not defending any other moves haha... This one just isn't overly awful.  I'm not really a Gase fan.

The worse September and October go the quicker he's shown the door. It's not going to get better til he's out, so anything he can do to pull the plug sooner is optimal to his head coaching career eventually just dying of natural causes.

Jets signed RB Kalen Ballage.

With Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) headed to injured reserve for at least three weeks, coach Adam Gase was not going to miss out on Ballage again. Ballage was historically inefficient for the Dolphins last season, and there is little reason to expect him to be any better behind an offensive line that's yet to gel and has a brutal early-season schedule. Frank Gore and Lamical Perine are both better fantasy fliers during Bell's absence.

Chargers RB Kalen Ballage played 39.2 percent of the team's offensive snaps in Week 9 against the Raiders.

Incredibly, practice squad-dwelling Ballage paced the Chargers with 15 rushes for a nice 69 yards and a touchdown after Justin Jackson exited the game with a knee injury in the first quarter. Joshua Kelley played more snaps than Ballage but saw 14 touches to Ballage's 17. It's clear there's no scenario in which Kelley gets a full workload for LA. Depending on the severity of Jackson's injury, Ballage could have low-end RB2 value in Week 10 against his former team, the Dolphins.
