Bargain 55" 1080P Brand Name TV- non smart-under $280 (1 Viewer)

I went to Costco and they have the TCL/Roku 55” 4K for $339. For an extra $60, you get 4K and it’s a smart TV with all the streaming apps.

The more expensive one is LED direct lit vs the cheaper one being LED edge lit. The difference between the two. The LG is also direct lit. Samsung claims 120 hZ refresh but it’s not really. It’s the same as the LGs Tru120 or whatever. Refresh rate is important.

Be really careful when comparing what you see in store on TVs. Some will be properly setup, others not, and/or could have better content being played on them. I have 2 LGs that I used in my spare bedrooms and the picture is alright but the little things about it are pretty annoying. Like the extremely cheap remotes that barely work, the speakers are junk and the menus and response time are very slow. If you’re just going to be watching one type of thing on the TV (only movies, just sports, etc) so you’ll never need to adjust anything AND you’re going to get a sound system of some sort that the LG should be fine. It could be just that mine are lower end but I’m guessing that that’s where the price difference between the LG and the expensive Samsung is.

thanks for the info..so is the fake 120hz good enough for sports(pretty much all I watch) or is there a better tv at this time. seems like from the link you sent it is hard to get a real read on the refresh rate of tvs. also would you say that samsung is worth the extra $300 it doesn't really seems that way to me

These.  These TCL Roku sets are awesome, especially if you're a streamer.  I have this one and love it.  Incredible bang for the buck.

I have one out by my pool. Been outside for 18 months and still alive.

I’m not even sure that what I described about my problem with the cheap LGs I got would even be an issue with the LG model that you’re looking at. It might just be that Samsung feels they can charge $300 more for their version. Or there could be some other features that I’m not aware of. Like a faster processor for steaming directly through the TV or whatever else. I was more so just trying to point out some potential differences to look for.

Cnet TV Reviews from January.  The TCL TVs that the others mentioned are in there but it seems that they only come in 55” according to the website. Sony isn’t mentioned in any review sites that I’ve seen but they do have a 120 hz native TVs. BestBuy has one that might suit you. I’m not a TV expert so I don’t know how much more I can help. I’m basically just Googling TVs at this point. Good luck.
