2020: The Race For the White House - The Good Place (4 Viewers)

What’s so irritating to me is it’s gotten to the point where there’s so many people who aren’t even paying attention.  They don’t care - just want their team to win.
Right, like there's a part of me that hesitated before posting it. Because most in here are smart enough to have seen this con long ago. While others are in so deep their involuntary response to this is to dig for the but what about and ignore the actual content. So why waste any time or energy. Facts only matter when they align with the bias.

It seems, though, like Trump has a ceiling of about mid-40 % ...similar to Bernie having a ceiling of mid-20 %s in a number of primaries.  Like Bernie, Trump is appealing only to a specific segment.  In 2016, though, he picked up extra support from the anti-Hillary crowd and enough 'let's try draining the swamp' crowd to win.  But he's not getting that now, which is why he is polling well behind Biden.

Trump can wear himself out - and maybe suffer a serious relapse - bouncing around the country for the next few weeks.  But it won't work.  He's only reinforcing that base.  He has nothing to draw additional voters ...no policies, no personal appeal, no anti-opponent options.  His only hope is to subvert the voting process, and if that happens, he'll have hell to pay with the American people.

This isn't an election based on swinging undecided voters.  The sides are dug in. This is about cultivating and harvesting the voters who otherwise wouldn't bothered but can be pursuaded to come out and vote.  That's why it's is a good thing to be out there right now and try to win that vote.

If there is a candidate/ticket with no personal appear, no draw, no "juice", it's not Trump.  It may not help him win but if either party has the ability to move the needle it would be the Republican party, currently.

Just realized my son will be 18 in time for the next election.  Makes me feel old but will be nice to have him along to try and stop Trump from winning his third term after he rigs this election and then gets his courts to rule the 22nd amendment unconstitutional.

Lets just hope he's pulling the lever for Harris in 2024 🙂

These close races, with the swing states, it's important to get the big guns firing at the big targets.

Eric Trump spoke to about 200 supporters in a basement party room at the bowling alley Village Bowl, in Menomonee Falls, WI

Let's hope it's a moot point.  Landslide time.

Just saw this and, while in a way it's simplistic, it encapsulates a lot of what we are seeing and a lot of how posts go here as well.  And yes, I know this is obviously slanted (especially the last line), but there's a lot of truth to it in terms of the "whataboutisms" and misconstruing what many are actually advocating for:

Dems: We'd like cops to stop killing minorities.
Reps: Dems hate police.

D's: Women should have the right to choose.
R's: Dems want to kill babies.

D's: We need reasonable immigration policies.
R's: Dems want open borders.

D's: We kneel in protest of inequality.
R's: Dems hate the flag, soldiers and America.

D's: We should wear masks to protect others.
R's: Dems want to take away your freedom.

D's: We should have background checks.
R's: Dems want to take your guns.

D's: Feds should not be policing in cities.
R's: Dems encourage rioting.

D's: People should have a living wage.
R's: Dems want to give everyone free stuff.

D's: We want religious freedom for everyone.
R's: Dems want Sharia Law.

D's: Taxes should be used for the benefit of everyone.
R's: Dems want socialism.

D's: We want people to be able to vote safely during a pandemic.
R's: Dems want to rig the election.

D's: People need more unemployment assistance.
R's: Dems blocked unemployment assistance.

D's: Listen, we just want to find ways to help people.
R's: Listen, we just want to find ways to misrepresent everything you say in order to scare people into voting for us, even though we offer zero solutions.

yes, but we need more of this kind of stuff. hard evidence that can't be refuted or swept under the rug. we need it on billboards, and commercials, and airwaves. we need it on twitter feeds, and instagram stories, and tiktok videos. I'm amazed how someone with such a high level of visibility can continuously bend the truth, manipulate facts and media, and outright LIE while a good chunk of the population just shrugs. where is the accountability?

it bums me out every single day.

They don't care.

They don't care.
Not only do they not care, they LOVE it.  His base is loyal and they aren't budging off him for any reason.  Certainly not now.  He's the world's greatest troll and his base loves watching the left twist and turn at every bumbling tweet he sends out into the world.  This is a delight for them.  Bullies and trolls are always going to have a fanbase.  Some people root for these types.  It's why villains in movies or literature are so lionized.

A record 110K early voters in Georgia on Monday. People waiting in line 5 to 11 hours just to vote.

21 days.
Early voting started here in FL yesterday. I went out and did exactly what I said I would do, as much as I didn't want to do it. I voted D in every major category in protest of Trump and his abject failure to do any governing whatsoever, and in 2 years, I plan on voting the same way to oust DeSantis.

There's not an eye roll emoji adequate enough for this garbage. You don't think one of these could be cooked up in short order showing things slanting the other way?

Goes a little something like this...

Reps: We're heartbroken by unnecessary death at the hands of police, but we still believe the overwhelming majority of our police officers are doing a great job in incredibly tough working conditions.
Dems: Your white privilege is showing. Defund the police-- they're predominantly white males who are only out for power over minorities.

R's: We believe that unborn children are people with rights, and they are in need of a voice when they cannot speak for themselves.
D's: You hate women and equal rights. And you're anti-science. Also, why don't you adopt people's kids who don't want them?

R's: We believe that we are nation of immigrants, but we also believe that having a strong border is in our best national security interests. We also believe we should handle that process fairly and without special privileges for those who broke our laws while entering the country.
D's: You're a racist. There is no such thing as borders.

See how that works?

Be better.

I guess the moral of my story is: Don't let the internet make caricatures out of fellow citizens who disagree with you politically. When it comes down to it, both sides have some points that are worthy of consideration and discussion. These are complex topics without simple answers. Being respectful of one another would go a long way in 2020.

By being respectful, do you mean lecturing a fellow FBG to 'Be better'?

I was sincere in my request for him to be better. I'd like to think the discourse here could be better than the equivalent a 90s-era chain email sent by "that" uncle.
Barking out 'be better' is hardly respectful.  No matter how sincere you are trying to be.

Cool. I'll note that you feel that way.

Now could you grade out how respectful his post was in the first place?

Just want to make sure I'm calibrating the way respectful discourse should flow, in your opinion. Because you seem to have taken issue with my stance, but not his. I find that interesting.

On second thought, GM-- don't bother. I'm remembering why I avoid this forum all over again. It'll be easier if I just leave and keep to myself. Appreciate ya.

I just find it ironic that you're making a plea to be more respectful - which I agree with you on - but that follows up a post where you weren't very respectful to gianmarco, who has been nothing but a gentleman on this forum for years.  That's all, nothing more, nothing less.

He put a disclaimer above his post before posting it:  Just saw this and, while in a way it's simplistic, it encapsulates a lot of what we are seeing and a lot of how posts go here as well.  And yes, I know this is obviously slanted (especially the last line), but there's a lot of truth to it in terms of the "whataboutisms" and misconstruing what many are actually advocating for

He didn't create that content, was just trying to showcase the nature of 'whataboutisms'.  He even said they were slanted.  The point wasn't the content itself.  Calling it 'garbage' and then saying we need to be more respectful just struck me as highly ironic.  Nothing more, nothing less.  No hard feelings.

Yes, this forum is a cesspool and needs to be shut down.  It's torn a good community apart.

There is a reason you see the same names and their backup accounts in here .

And some people are always spoiling for a fight. Just seem to be unhappy

It's awful.  You can't even get past the first couple of issues without seeing how off this guy is on the positions.  Example:

D's: Women should have the right to choose.
R's: Dems want to kill babies.

This isn't a Democrat or Republican issue, it's a moral issue.  If abortion isn't the killing of a baby, what is it?

Sorry wasn’t directed at you , you really aren’t a regular here. Like RnR you pop in and out. Just a general observation at what goes down in here on a daily basis.

No worries, I wouldn't be here at all but the FFA is dead and baseball is gone.  And I can't........I just can't even with the Shark Pool.

I wasn't even going to bother responding, but thank you for doing so on my behalf here.

Yes, the point of posting that wasn't a dig against the right side.  It was all about how arguments or positions get turned into something they aren't.  As he posted, you could do one for the other side as well and I'm not disagreeing with that at all.  I'm not sure how it was construed any other way with what I wrote, but I don't get surprised by much over here any more.

Now, let's get back to the Good Place.

I see Trump winning the EV something like 356 to 163 r something..

Biden will get Michigan and Arizona, but Trump will get Florida, Georgia, PA, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, Texas, and California.

No offense but I don't see that at all.  California?  The only way is if they can torch ALL the ballot boxes instead of just the one so far.  PA has Biden with a 9 point edge.  My aunt lives there (Allentown) and they did an impromptu survey of the 700 residents.  Last election, over 65% voted Trump.  That number currently has fallen to 38%.  This was an assisted living place with an extremely affluent Republican base.  I live in NC and several Republicans on our block have readily admitted they've voted for Biden.  Biden's ahead here by a small margin. He's ahead by 4 points in Fla too.  No, I don't see Trump winning.  Too many people in the US have seen what he is.

Biden has a 30.9% lead in CA, which last went R in 1988. I had zero gray hairs then.

But let’s give Trump 6 IA electors, no questions asked (it’s very close atm.) Doesn’t matter, actually - won’t be the tipping point..

Further, let’s give the ME 2nd to Biden (1 elector.)

That puts it at Biden 260, Trump 125

Remaining tossup states:

AZ 11
FL 29
GA 16
NC 15
OH 18
PA 20
TX 38

Those 7 have to break 100% for Trump. No exceptions.

278 w/ IA, 272 w/o IA.

If Trump loses any of those 7 - and he could conceivably lose most if not all of them - that will make Joe Biden the 46th President of the United States.

Suppressing the vote / hoping for low turnouts in Atlanta AND Durham AND Cleveland AND Houston AND Philly - that’s the Trump path.

And turning around his sinking chances with the elderly in AZ AND FL.

Not some or most of those scenarios. Perfect storm, mistake free, gotta have all 7 - that’s the Trump path.

Good luck with that.

Yup.  The sky is looking bright blue today.

There is no way on God's green earth that California goes for Trump, unless Alabama changes its name to California.

I manage the employee PAC for my company and today I moderated an hour with guest speaker Frank Luntz.  Luntz predicted Biden would win by 7% but predicted we wouldn’t get an official call on the election for ~ 72 hours. His scenario included Trump being ahead after election night, but the mail in votes counted afterward to skew heavily Biden.  Which would make for a very interesting 3 days.  🍿
