Soundbar Guys : ISO Audio Sound bar & Options are confusing (1 Viewer)

What’s up! Didn’t find an existing thread but the search function was being wonky.

Looking to streamline the living room down from a 5.1 setup to a 2.1 soundbar setup.

I have a nice Klipsch 8” Powered sub that I’d prefer to retain as it’s clean as hell and very musical.

Seems like most soundbar offerings either are “all in one” with no sub outputs, or they come with some (presumably) ####ty sub.

Pricepoint is sub $400.. bonus points for sub $300.

Use will be 70% TV/Movies and 30% music. Love the idea of Bluetooth connectivity for streaming as well.

TIA.

I bought an LG 55 inch OLED a few years ago.  For such a nice TV, I was surprised at how ####ty the sound quality was. Bought an LG 320 Watt Sound Bar that includes a subwoofer.  I think it was in the range of 300-400 a few years ago.  I love it.  There is Bluetooth connectivity and the sound quality is awesome.  Super easy to set up and it can be controlled by any other remote (cable, tv, etc)   I’m pretty sure you have the ability to output to your own sub but not 100% certain.  Disclaimer- my family room is not huge so a good quality sound bar works great.

I have an older Yamaha soundbar and I’m having a heck of a time getting the OTA TV (Samsung) sound to it.  It was way easier with a cable box, but screw cable.

After some research I opted for the Yamaha YAS-108

https://www.techhive.com/article/3291317/speakers/yamaha-yas-108-review.html

Reasons:

- Great reviews across the board

- Subwoofer output for my Klipsch Sub, but didn’t come with crappy unecessary sub.

- Dual Bluetooth 5.0 Input (multiple people can connect and send music/etc). Great for parties or can be paired with an Amazon Dot while leaving one channel free to send music from a phone.

- Great video: 4K Pass through with HDR support and HDMI ARC/CEC support (audio return & remote control compatibility with TV)

- Great audio: President Trump Virtual:X to simulate 7.1.4 surround, plus Clear Voice enhancement mode for shows with hard to hear dialogue. Also as optical input.

- Solid interface: Full featured remote plus Mobile app to control speaker as well.

Came in at only $179 via amazon. Hooking it up Wednesday to test. Will report back.

Was going to post that Yamaha has led in the virtual sound fields for a long time, in fact recommended one to our gb @St. Louis Bob and Sound and Vision gave last years step up model a very good review. The other one that I'd give consideration is the Sonos soundbar, they make some great products as well.

Update?

Big fan. When paired with the klipsch sub it’s perfect. If your expecting $1000 sound out of a $180 bar, you’ll be disappointed.

Paired with a good sub it will impress the hell out of you for the money.
I doubt I'll buy a stand-alone sub, this one comes with a sub built in correct? Our new place is kind of small, so I think this will work great with the TV and a new Receiver.

Thanks [icon]!

I'm confused, this is what it says on the link you provided

Yet from the Amazon page

:oldunsure:
It has speakers designated for low end... calling them subwoofers is pushing it.

There is not a lot of good low end that comes from this speaker... nor ANY speaker with 3” drivers handling low end.

It will produce the same low end as any decent Bluetooth type speaker... but if you’re looking for good low end you can feel during movies or in music, no speaker with 3” drivers can provide that.

I adjusted the crossover in my Klipsch 12” sub and it’s awesome. I love that you can independently adjust the sub volume in the app.

Clearvoice does a great job of digitally bringing dialogue forward in shows/movies.

Didn't see an audio thread...

Looking for 5.1 amp/receiver with Bluetooth capability.  Would prefer a small footprint, but not for a big increase in price.

Any recommendations?

I'm looking to get a sound bar to add to my outdoor TV setup.  Any recommendations?  TV is a LG LED 4K UHD Smart TV (no clue if that matters).  I'm looking to upgrade TV sound and also play music in the backyard.  I currently have just a Amazon Dot back there which is fine but the music quality and strength suck.

I'm not looking to break the bank, especially since this is outside and will be exposed to the elements.  Speaking of - I'm not sure how to mount this thing - most videos I've watched mount it to the TV but with the cover I have on the TV I don't think that will be possible.

What do you want to spend? Denon is typically my go to for most budgets.

I just added a TV and soundbar to my outside space and here is what I did

Here is the soundbar that I found on sale for $100  I think the bass could be a little stronger but it that could also be a result of not having a solid wall behind it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCSWF73/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It took a little time to determine the correct screw and mounting configuration but this bracket let me mount it to the TV

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DW1XOCY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I covered it with this

Thanks - the issue I think I'm going to have is I can't mount it to the TV as the cover I already have won't be big enough to cover the TV plus the sound bar.  I think I may got with something not super expensive 100-200 and just take my chances with it being exposed and mount it above/below my TV.

Here's my TV and then one with it with the cover on.  Unfortunately I didn't think this through but not sure I could have gotten a cover that would work anyway.

@AAAABatteries

That area looks to be well protrected from any rain so I think it would be fine not being covered

and that is a great space
Thanks.  We've actually since swapped out the cushions to something nicer and put some blinds up.  I need to post some pictures to the Home Owner projects thread.

As for this - after doing some more research I realized this would be my wish list:

  • Built-in Alexa/voice control
  • Wall mountable
  • Rated for outdoor/weather protection (despite the covered space)
  • Wireless
Not sure how much that limits my options but if anybody has a recommendation I'd appreciate the input.

@[icon]I'm looking at the 109 now - you still happy with the purchase?  This seems to be the leading contender based on what I'm looking for.

Yep! Still running strong. For the money I'm guessing you'd be hard pressed to do a whole lot better. DEFINITELY benefits being paired to a capable sub.
