Why is this place a ghost town? (1 Viewer)

Because most grown ### men don't like their conversations regulated to Sunday School standards.

I'll probably be gone once the Cowboys are eliminated from the playoffs.  I don't play Fantasy anymore.  I used to come here for all types of information (there once was a thread on that): News, TV shows, Cut the Cable, etc.  With the majority of the posters gone the forum doesn't provide that info anymore.  The best TV shows on TV right now aren't even being discussed, for example.
Come on man hang past Sunday, you are good people.

I post about 5% of what I used to, and it’s pretty much zero quality content now, vs 3% then.

Overzealous liberals

Overzealous moderation

Oversensitive remaining posters.

GMs thread is the last stronghold of decent content here. I’ve moved on to other forums and reddit. Probably won’t re-up subscription next year. PFF worked great this year.
What’s PFF?

Not deflecting and not blaming anyone. I'm saying if you'd like to discuss TV shows, then post about TV shows. Some threads have more traction than others. It's tough to predict sometimes.
And I just got done telling you I tried. Not only is it predictable, it's happened: tens of thousands of posters at a time down to a couple hundred?

START SOME INTERESTING ONES, THEN.
I don't have the energy to start threads here anymore (cannot remember the last one I started).  I just like to chime in here and there when I browse during down times of the day.

I guess I haven’t noticed the amount of people here before at the bottom. Saw 35 earlier today. 28 right now. Man that’s crazy. I don’t recall it ever being as busy as 15k people here like somebody mentioned but 30 at a time is really really bad.

to be fair, I think the older versions of the software would show anyone that had been on the site in like the prior two hours.

What are we really suppose to do here anyway?

The flashing neons read...

The forum for all non-NFL topics. Most things go, but keep it clean. Be excellent to each other. And please don't whine.

Hence

House of the Rising Sun

Letting you down, GB? Not enough complaint? I need to catch up with hockey, which has gotten away from me. It's time for your reports from Arizona.

Seriously, I love this place. I'm always amazed at people that have a beef with the general tone and tenor of it, other than moderations and personal bannings. I have my own issues, but subjugate them for the good, utilitarian-style.
I don't know if I could handle the unsubjugated rockaction

I mean I don't even miss the who's hottest threads or the yoga pants thread.  I know where to find that stuff.  I'm here for discussion.
Then come discuss your final playlist. I'd love to see it.

Am I the only one that thinks this board is okay and keeps continuing to be so? It may not be the wonder years of 2006-7, but it is pretty intelligent and humorous. A great place to stop in, frankly.
You are not the only one--I certainly agree with you and I think there are plenty of others that do too.  I personally think that community involvement and civil discussion in general has devolved.  Most people interact less with their neighbors than before.  Face to face conversations and phone calls have been replaced by one line text messages.  People have grown to be so desensitized to the point where decent conversations about topics that are not super provocative are no longer really interesting to them.   If people are leaving this place in big numbers because they can't chat about how good or bad a female looks in athleisure attire--let them go.  Never in history has it been easier to access scandalous photos and discussions on the internet.  Never in history has it been easier for anybody to involve themselves in rude, confrontational and troll-like behavior on the internet.   What makes this place special is that it's trying to create an environment that breeds civil and polite discussions about topics that are more substantive than pornographic.   The success of this board should not be measured by the number of members--but by the quality of the members and how they treat each other. I'll take 300 really good contributing members over 14000 confrontational trolls and whiners who complain about over moderation and the removal of a yoga pants thread any day of the week.

I will say this, a lot of you are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too serious about threads on a messageboard, why not relax and do what I do, just have some fun.

You can debate the reasons why people left but more people = more interesting or funny threads started. I still enjoy coming here every day but the conversations have splintered off into groups and there aren't too many compelling threads started. I saw the other day where the last thread on Page 1 hadn't been replied to in 8 hours. (eta: just noticed it's 12 hours now) There was a time where that wouldn't hit 1 hour. You couldn't even keep up with all the conversations. It's sad to see but I am forever grateful to Joe for what he created here and to all the people, past and present, who made this board what it is. I hope to stick around until they turn the lights out.

The PSF is down to between 15-20 at times. 11 when I went on this morning.

That is counting the 10-15 who are always there keeping it going. Then I think if someone disagrees with your views it carries over to the FFA where you can`t even discuss a rib recipe with that person.

Maybe the board is just getting older..marriage, kids, life ect just got in the way and people don`t spend as much time or care.  Remember when we could not wait until Saturday mornings to hear about Otis at Friday Happy Hour in NY and what hot chick he hooked up with.  Now Oats is a dad with a wife and kids and instead of looking for chicks he is looking for advice on how to lose weight and remodel his back porch.
Aren't those the same thing?

Be the change you'd like to see. If you'd like to discuss TV shows, do that. Those can be great topics.
Id agree...the complaints about content always seem odd when you look and people aren't creating that content.  it would be like me complaining too many people post a whole lot and like to argue too much.

As for the topic...I think some don't like the heavy moderation.  Though, it has gotten a bit heavier, its not all that different than year's past.  Its always been more strict board.

Yup.  Take the Sandra Bullock movie, Bird Box, for example.  It was streamed something crazy like 40 million times in one week which I believe was a record.

That should have had it's thread for discussion but it the thread was made, the response would have been, "You know we have thread for Netflix content, right?"

You can't deflect the blame onto me. Being the change I'd like to see gets me time outs and won't bring back the people that were chased off.

Specifically for tv shows I'd be talking to myself. I bumped the best show on tv that doesn't take a holiday break a week back because no one has posted this season. Arguably the best season of the series. Three people responded and it died.  GOT was the only show on the first two pages that I checked. Ghost town.

You must have some numbers that show active posters over time. Those would be interesting to see.
the show sucked bruh.

what show?

That’s a big problem. I can’t ever find discussion about a show I like because it’s buried in a few comments spread over dozens of pages. That thread sucks so much.
I'm torn about this. I'm too lazy to look around at threads I haven't already responded to, so like posting in the netflix thread about any and all shows. but yeah- it's tough to keep steady discussion going on any one show.

I started that Hill House thread because all I saw in the Netflix one was a few comments from you. Worked out well. At least for the really culturally popular shows we should have a thread imo.

We all know where to find stuff like that but it was fun discussing it in a group setting. Finding it on Redditt is like going to the bar or movie by yourself.

I still don't get the hype for that movie. And it wasn't scary at all. Robin Williams was hilarious though.

Pretty predictable if you think about it.  You treat a bunch of middle aged men like pre-teens, then tell them to leave if they don't like.

What do you expect?

That's where I think you're wrong. Not allowing the guys to make the "locker room" comments about women using anonymous screen names saying things in public that have to be deleted by the mods is far from treating them "like pre-teens". You're welcome of course to disagree. But that's how we're going to run the board.

I'm with this.

just had lunch with a fellow FBG who was in the "this place has had it" camp. I'm the opposite.

for me, this place is about the 50-100 or so regular posters who make up this community and who I genuinely like and appreciate- even if I don't agree with all of them. I don't use FB or Instagram because in my feeds at least, they're dominated by people who's opinions I genuinely don't care about. and aside from an occasional text or phone call, I rarely communicate with my IIRL actual friends. this is the place I come to throw out a random thought or see what people (who I like and appreciate, even if I don't always agree with) think of the latest band/tv-show/movie/book/soccer-whatever. it's nice to get new blood and voices, but it's mostly nice to get the thoughts of people I "know".

A messageboard is about what?
This one is about telling didacts to slow their roll.......or role.

You're coming in like an ESPN color commentator - telling us stuff we already know like it's oracular wisdom, fresher than today's catch. Most of us can tell from your tastes that you'd be OK to have a cold one with, but that act is simply not making me want to call another round. I mean, i'm the Frikkin' Wrath of God Visited Upon This Earth™ but i didn't start throwin "get bent"s for a year as a newcomer a decade ago. You will not edify us, ZR, but we'll be happy for you to join in. nufced

I feel very similarly, GB.

I started doing this long ago when home computers became the thing to own. Have posted on tons of sites like this one, blues, wrestling, track, boxing, football, sci fi, bodybuilding, hell.......silent movies.  I've talked to thousands of people, about a lot of different things, hell, right now in a huge discussion about evolution at another place.

I like this place but I have no need to act like some newbie, when I'm totally comfortable just jumping in both barrels blasting. I know from experience after the shock of....this new guy thinks he can......always wears off and things always end up cool.

Hell, I used to moderate the world famous Sub10 (sprinting) messageboard, there we had world class athletes and coaches posting.  I'm simply not a guy who worries ....would it be ok if....?  The hell with that.

I will say this, you guys worry way too much about everything here, kind of unusual to be honest.  Just relax have some fun not so damn uptight.

If I;m not for you, cool, don't read me.  I'll make it, honest😎

PG-13 – Parents Strongly Cautioned

Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Parents are urged to be cautious. Some material may be inappropriate for pre-teenagers.

PG – Parental Guidance Suggested

Some material may not be suitable for children. Parents urged to give "parental guidance". May contain some material parents might not like for their young children.

G – General Audiences

All ages admitted. Nothing that would offend parents for viewing by children.

I think I'm on the outside for being happy that we have a new, vocal poster here.

I also think what's rubbing folk (or at least me) the wrong way is that guns blazing thing... but then keeping the barrels going when you've stepped into something you're clearly not getting, misunderstanding, or maybe has a history you couldn't understand as a newb. given that we're all grown ups, that comes across as either willfully intentional (trolling) or naive/ignorant. I've never understood trolling (I'm going to pretend to act like an ####### by acting like an #######?), so I assume the latter.
