Rivals recruiting analyst has Florida State junior RB Cam Akers on his list of ten players he expects to bounce back in 2019.

Akers (5'11/212) started ten of Florida State's 12 games last season, and after surpassing the 1,000-yard mark in 2017 he was a victim of the team's porous offensive line. The junior averaged 4.4 yards per carry in 2018, rushing for 706 yards and six touchdowns. While those numbers were tops on the team Akers is certainly capable of better production, and what's what Farrell expects to see from him this fall. "He had a great freshman season but fell back last season with an awful offensive line," Farrell wrote. "However, better things should be coming this season."

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller believes Vanderbilt RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn is the best senior running back in 2019.

If Vaughn isn't the best, he's close to it. Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy mentions Utah RB Zach Moss as in the running, too, but Moss has more injury red flags than Vaughn. Both Vaughn and Moss have a Day 2 ceiling if they can show well this season and post respectable numbers at the Combine. Vaughn is expected to have a big workload thanks to his size (5'10/218) and toughness.

Former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky counted just two open wide receivers (aside from quick game/screens) for Oregon senior QB Justin Herbert in Saturday's close 27-21 loss to Auburn.

Orlovsky's definition of what is or is not open is unclear, but the former NFL QB sounding off on Oregon's lack of open wide receivers is concerning for the Ducks. Auburn's defense is loaded with future pros at all levels of the defense and Oregon's skill players didn't seem to have answers. Herbert was able to execute exceptionally in the quick game, but considering that is almost all of what was available to him, Oregon just didn't have the firepower to come out on top. Hopefully the offense can get it together with a strong outing against Nevada next week.

Oregon senior QB Justin Herbert's career QBR is a bit of a roller coaster and looks to be trending downward, according to ESPN's Paul Sabin.

In a Twitter thread on Monday, Sabin illustrated career arcs through the lens of QBR for a handful of the nation's top QBs, including Herbert. While star underclassmen such as Georgia's Jake Fromm and Alabama's tua Tagovailoa showed a consistently high level of play, Herbert's chart featured as many highs as it did lows, and those lows seem to be occurring more often as of late. In fairness, Herbert did not appear fully healthy last season, which could help explain the dip in play. Hopefully Herbert can get back into peak form in the coming weeks.

Arizona State junior RB Eno Benjamin posted 69 rushing yards on 24 attempts in Friday's 19-7 victory against Sacramento State.

Benjamin (5'10/210) was able to post 94 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions, more than making up for the fact he had just 2.9 yards per rushing attempt against a defense which allowed nearly 400 total yards to an NAIA offense from Southern Oregon last week. Benjamin and the Sun Devils have plenty of work to do heading into next weekend's road trip to East Lansing to tangle with the Michigan State Spartans.

Florida State junior RB Cam Akers was a national standout this week despite the Seminoles' awful team performance, according to Pro Football Focus.

Florida State nearly fell to Louisiana-Monroe, but Akers would have been the last one to blame for the loss. Akers scooted to nearly 250 total yards in his effort to keep the offense afloat. After a certain point late in the game, QB James Blackman almost exclusively looked to get the ball to Akers. The star RB's performance landed him on PFF's offensive team of the week as one of the two RBs, alongside Appalachian State's Darrynton Evans.

Oklahoma State junior WR Tylan Wallace picked up 178 yards after the catch in his 180-yard performance against McNeese State, according to Pro Football Focus' Cam Mellor.

Yards after catch can be slightly inflated by screen passing (i.e., the player gets more yards after catch than yards gained), but no amount of explaining away can knock down Wallace's performance. McNeese State, an FCS program, stood no chance containing the future pro. Wallace took a number of short passes to the house, including two that went for 69 yards and 75 yards a piece. Don't be surprised when Wallace does the same thing to Tulsa next week.
