*** APEX LEGENDS *** - ̿ ̿ ̿̿’̿’\̵͇̿̿\=(•̪●)=/̵͇̿̿/’̿̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ (1 Viewer)

Yep, this game is so much fun. I have not touched Fortnite since Apex dripped about 2 weeks ago. I am NO GOOD but that doesn’t matter too much and doesn’t take away from my enjoyment at all.

My go-to is character is the healer girl. Since I’m not a great attacker, I feel like I can contribute more as a supporting squad member to provide heals and gear drops.

Caustic is my fallback in case someone else chooses the healer. Laying down gas traps in random spots is so much fun. I read that there is a feature/glitch where you can lock those big sliding double-doors by throwing down a trap in the center just on the inside. Haven’t verified this though.

We suck at it but my gf and I have been messing with this. Fun game. I like the shield guy. We've got only one win bc we suck but a ton of top 3 finishes bc we like to play stealthy and hug the circles, she's Lifeline and gets us sweet drops so we can gear up without too much enemy contact. Always give your Ultimate Booster items to your Lifeline imo

Anecdotal evidence:

My kids ( 18 and 19) used to play fortnite a ton. The novelty wore off and they had not played much lately. They have played Apex  a lot since it came out  and talk about how much better it is than FN.

I got the Apex Drip back in college.  Took like 3 rounds of antibiotics to clear that up.

I don't get why anyone would say it's a Fortnite killer. I don't play either of them (I'm more of a Civ guy) but I pay attention to gaming news, and Fortnite hit a new concurrent user high yesterday. The market really isn't saturated yet.

I do love how Twitch viewing is now a gaming benchmark, something Penny Arcade noticed as well. People watching Twitch aren't actually playing the game, so it's more of a marketing metric than anything.

Fortnite has a demographic that Apex doesn't, mobile. When they figure it out then they might have a shot.

Most of the people watching are gamers though. They want to watch what they enjoy playing to see others enjoy or suck at it. Twitch is usually a good barometer for what the popular games are. If Apex falls down in viewers by next month and Fortnite is back up, then the fad will have passed. Some games withstand the fad though like DOTA2, League of Legends and Counterstrike. Fortnite will probably be fine because it's still different enough unless all the kids that enjoyed Fortnite now need a new drug to scratch their itch.

My daughter is pretty into fortnite so I asked her about this tonight.  I said that I read that it might be the fortnite killer. She said “no, it is literally not. The graphics are terrible.”

I’m on Xbox. Anyone else?
Just wanted to thank you for starting this thread. My two boys play Fortnite, so I came down this morning, looked at them and scoffed:

”Boys, Fortnite is old news. Apex is where its at these days.”

Them: “You know about Apex?”  :jawdrop:

Me: “Yeah. I’ve been playing it a couple weeks. Makes Fortnite look like a sissy game.”

Them: “Can we play?”

Me: “Not yet.”

I’ve never played Apex and knew nothing about it until this thread.

Man, I'm terrible at these battle Royale game. Played 4 rounds of Apex and got zero kills.
I was the same. It takes some time but once you gat a little better, it’s such a good time. Figuring out the special abilities was my biggest hurdle.

Lifeline is a great one to master. Supporting the team by dropping that heal drone, calling in her alt ability (supply drop) . And the fact that when she picks someone up who is downed, a bubble shield appears so nobody can shoot at you two during that time.

Lastly, no matter which character you are, always pick up  or “ping” Accelerant Packs. When you use it it cuts down on your characters alt ability countdown clock.  If your squad is smart, they feed these to the Lifeline girl so she can call in a half dozen supply drops during the match. Setting the squad up with awesome gear.

Fortnite has unique enough mechanics to hold out for a while I think.  But I also think it’s weird how whatever game a handful of twitch streamers are playing can change people’s perception.

I think it works both ways. Streamers play what people want to see.

Downloaded and played 4 rounds.. 4 kills.  Squad yelling at me because i dont know how to heal/revive/whatever the ####.  :lmao:

im pretty sure cross-play has to be one of their top priorities now.

played a few games over the weekend, its easy to rack up a bunch of kills when you're in those early battles.

11 year old son- "Fortnite is dead."  Has moved on to Apex Legends.

7 year old, still all in on Fortnite, as are his friends.  We haven't let him play Apex.

My youngest is playing this now.  He hasn't played Fortnite for a while now, and played Blackout only a couple of times.  From what he's told me, this sounds like one I could get into based on the differences between this and fortnite, but I would need a group of people to play with.  I wouldn't want to do this alone, and I would need other noobs who are getting better, or just need me to meat shield.

The non building really interests me, along with the different specialists who can be used in conjunction to build the "team" concept.

It appears the ammo is specific to different guns though.  That seems annoying to have to decide to pick up certain ammo in hopes of finding that gun down the line.

I'll try it one of these days.

PS4 RolledJeep here, however I die pretty much instantly.
Sooo...you took all you learned from Fortnite and brought it with you to Apex

The streamers have huge followings, it's crazy. Never would have envisioned people watching other people play video games but here we are. I've watched a few times but it loses my interest. Watching guys dominate on PC rigs that would give Mad Cow a woody for weeks just isn't my thing. And if they do get killed, everyone is cheating or a bot.

Regarding ammo, it’s color coded. So if you’re running around carrying a LMG, it shows how muc ammo you have for it, and the Heavy Ammo is green in color. A pistol or AR uses light ammo which is tan in color. The only other ammo types are Energy and Shotgun. A cheat sheet:

Shotgun - Red

Heavy - Green

Light - Tan

Energy - Light Green

get better
Well, only can get better from here.  The training wasn't syncing so I had 0 clue what the controls were, so that wasn't helping my cause.  About to log on again with somebody from work, and will see if I like it any better tonight.

the training mode is definitely lacking
It really is.  I wish there was a little bit of battle option in there.

Played about an hour last night, and still 0 kills.  I think I might be officially too old for this game, as I don't seem to be able to see any enemies until they are hovering over me after they killed me.

This scared me too.  When I was my son play, I see him spot things and call out enemies before I see anything.  Now, I'm not sitting down intently watching his screen, but all of a sudden he'll aim down the sights and I have to look hard to see what he's looking at.  Maybe there are some signatures you have to get used to spotting, but it wasn't very obvious to me.

That's all well and good, but I feel like it wil lead to a situation where I am standing there trying to decide which is worth picking up while some 12 year old snipes me from 1500 yards.

True.

On the topic of sniping however, it’s no really a thing in this game. Unlike all other shooters in the last 20 years, sniping is extremely challenging in Apex. I can’t recall ever being downed by a sniper yet. Which is great, as it forces mid to close rage battle and tactics instead of spending the whole game jumping randomly to avoid the Mountain Dew’d Out 12 year old with a sniper rifle.

Y'all every played Fortnite? Maybe it's just me but I can spot #### way off (movement, silhouettes) but rarely have a weapon to reach out and touch someone. Never played Apex but looking forward to it coming to mobile.

As it should be. A gripe i have about Fortnite is once you get decent at sniping (and you can practice a ton in the large team events) the easier it gets to sit on the edge and pick off competition with little to no retaliation. Sniping should be difficult, very difficult.

I think I played a grand total of three games of Fortnite.  I really don't like learning new button layouts, and the building never grabbed me.

Which reminds me, what are the controls like?  Are they similar to CoD, or am I going to have to learn a whole new layout?

I play mobile so I'm of no use to traditional console or PC gamers. I love how they've adapted the game to mobile but the building sucks. Just not an easy way to do it on mobile without learning the "claw" method and frankly, I don't care that much. That's really why I'm interested in Apex since it seems building isn't really a thing in game.

One of my issues is I never feel like I find a decent weapon or get it upgraded.  Running around with 2 other people that are 10x better, and they gobble up stuff and I get some crap pistol.

What are essential for a newb to get and look for??

Peacekeepers shotgun is amazing even with no attachments. Look for a shotgun bolt which are easy to find. If you are lucky enough to get a choke, it almost doubles the range making it almost the best weapon in the game.

R99 & R301 ARs are great as well.

RE45 pistol is great. It’s full auto and if you find a extended magazine you will rip through opponents like butter up close. Some go a whole game with that as their primary.

Dont even bother picking up a Mozambique.

Always grab a helmet, armor and backpack.
