Lynch: McKinnon had a setback at practice and it’s “not encouraging”

https://www.ninersnation.com/2019/8/28/20836926/49ers-john-lynch-jerick-mckinnon-setback-injured-reserve?fbclid=IwAR21UDA5r-A8snxN8ZgEn19WXf8Hoodd1-qBtwPNrisfkPYhDrZ7tWXj2RU

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was on KNBR discussing some of the teams’ recent injuries, and he did not have good news when talking about Jerick McKinnon. One source described it as a “flare-up” in his surgically repaired knee. The 49ers are gathering more information to decide the next steps, per Tom Pelissero.

This will make for a difficult decision on how to handle McKinnon’s most recent setback. He could go on the short-term injured reserve, where he has the designation to return. That would mean he has to make the initial 53-man roster. By doing that, you run the risk of losing a promising young player like DT Kevin Givens, or perhaps one of the wide receivers you planned on keeping. Alternatively, if McKinnon were to go on the injured reserve before Saturday, he’d have to miss the entire season.

This isn’t the first time McKinnon has suffered a flare-up in the same knee that he had surgically repaired. It happened before training camp, which is what landed him on the PUP list. He had another one when he first returned to practice on August 6. Then the most recent flare-up was during Tuesday’s practice.

If you’re wondering if the 49ers will cut McKinnon, that would mean the team would have to eat $5.7 in dead money, per Overthecap. Before the 49ers cut Malcolm Smith on Tuesday, the 49ers had $25.5 million in cap space. That was the sixth-most in the NFL. Even with that amount of space, placing McKinnon on the IR makes the most sense, as frustrating as it may be. If the 49ers were to wait until next year to release McKinnon, they could save $6.8 million, with $2 million of that being dead money.

It’s a harsh reality realizing that McKinnon may never play a regular season snap for the 49ers. Lynch’s quote:

“It’s a real bummer. He keeps getting to the final step. We did it a month ago, and he kinda regressed and yesterday we had a similar situation.”

Nick Bosa is healing at a ‘really good rate’ with Week 1 in playD; ee Ford looks good, should be good to go week 1

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/127644-nick-bosa-healing-really-good-rate-49ers-lynch/

Lynch said on August 22 that the chances of Bosa playing during Week 1 were about 50-50. He sounded a little more optimistic during his Wednesday-morning interview on KNBR.

Bosa suffered an ankle injury on August 7 and hasn't practiced or played since then. The injury came after the rookie sustained a low-grade hamstring strain on May 21, which forced him to miss most of the 49ers' offseason program.

"He's doing awesome," Lynch said of Bosa on the "Murph and Mac" show. "He really is. I've got a nice perch here where I can look out. I do so each day to watch Nick and his progress, and (I) get reports, obviously. He really is healing at a really good rate, and Week 1 is certainly in play.

"I'm not going to say probable, questionable; I'm not going to go there yet because we just aren't to that point yet, but he's kind of exceeding where we though he could be, so it's definitely a possibility.

Lynch believes Dee Ford will be ready for Week 1. Ford has been dealing with chronic knee tendinitis, which has kept him out of the preseason. He returned to practice this week.

"Dee is doing great," Lynch said. "I'm real happy with that. We addressed something that really he had been dealing with for some time, going back to his Kansas City days, even into college, he'll tell you. I think we were able to — a chronic condition above his knee where he had some tendinitis, and it was just, 'Let's not take this into the regular season. Let's get Dee Ford at 100 percent or as close as we can to that,' and I can tell you it's worked.

"He's looked tremendous out here the last couple of days. Barring anything else, Dee will be out there Week 1, and ready to go."

They cut Colbert, Harris and Exum... Have basically no safety depth at this point. Major fail IMO for not adding anyone via draft/FA. They had numerous chances to address the entire defensive backfield. One that was at the bottom of the NFL last year.  All they did was re-sign IR Ward, add another injury prone CB in Verrett (who of course missed all of pre-season) and a 6th round CB pick who is on IR. Maybe a trade of some kind is in the works? WTF is going here?

The San Francisco 49ers have their 53-man roster after two days worth of moves, which started on Friday morning.

Below is a breakdown, position-by-position, of the players who remain. Of course, this could change based on any transactions that take place after 1 p.m. on Saturday. Starting at 9 a.m. PT on Sunday, NFL teams can claim any one of the over 1,100 new free agents who were waived by their respective teams. The 49ers will also begin putting together a 10-man practice squad at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

I'm surprised they didn't keep Marcel Harris. He was good in limited action last season and had a good chance to become a quality starter IMO. But yet they keep 4 TEs.

Cutting Harris might bite them on the ### later.

Obviously, only keeping 3 safeties, they are going to make a move.  Harris (or Exum) may be coming back after they put Street on IR.

What a drag that McKinnon has played 0 NFL snaps since signing him. I thought he was a great fit for the new offensive scheme.

What an absolute waste of $ and roster space.

No malice towards McKinnon at all - it’s a tough break. He’s always played hard, and he sure gave his best shot this year, but the whole situation stinks.

ACL/knee reconstruction is generally looked at as a routine procedure these days. But there’s always a small chance it fails. This time it failed.

Just snakebitten.

How important is the Week 1 practice squad? Eight of the 10 players on the #49ers' original practice squad last year eventually made the active roster. That includes Nick Mullens, Jeff Wilson and Ross Dwelley.— Matt Barrows (@mattbarrows) September 1, 2019

Below is a list of players who the 49ers have reportedly signed to their initial 10-player practice squad for the upcoming season.

LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles
Per 49ers
The 49ers signed Flannigan-Fowles as an undrafted free agent in April.

DT Kevin Givens
Per Matt Barrows
Givens expects to be signed to the 49ers practice squad.

S Marcell Harris
Per Matt Barrows
The 49ers made Harris a sixth-round draft pick out of Florida in 2018. He spent the first part of last season on injured reserve but was activated on November 1, 2018. Harris finished the season with 34 combined tackles.

TE Daniel Helm
Per Matt Barrows
Helm intends to join the 49ers practice squad. The Los Angeles Chargers signed him as an undrafted free agent in April. San Francisco claimed Helm off waivers on August 2.

WR Malik Henry
Per Matt Barrows
The 49ers guaranteed nearly $90,000 to sign Henry as an undrafted free agent in April.

LB Elijah Lee
Per 49ers
The Minnesota Vikings made Lee a seventh-round pick out of Kansas State in 2017. The 49ers signed him off the Vikings practice squad on September 13, 2017. Lee recorded 65 combined tackles, a sack, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble through 16 games and five starts with San Francisco last year.

G Ross Reynolds
Per 49ers

OT Ryan Pope
Per Matt Maiocco
The 49ers intend to sign Pope, who was recently waived by the Detroit Lions.

DE Jeremiah Valoaga
Per Aaron Wilson
Valoaga finished second in the NFL in sacks this preseason with 4.5. The 49ers initially signed him on August 8.

RB Jeff Wilson
Per Matt Barrows
Wilson was signed by the 49ers on April 29, 2018 (officially announced May 1, 2018) as an undrafted free agent. He was signed to the practice squad last year and then promoted to the active roster on November 24, 2018. Wilson appeared in six games with two starts last season while rushing for 266 yards on 66 carries.

It’s not unreasonable to expect the 49ers to add a safety before Week 1, says John Lynch

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/127806-unreasonable-expect-49ers-safety-before-week-says-lynch/

It was glaringly evident that the San Francisco 49ers were noticeably light on safeties when the initial 53-player roster was revealed on Saturday afternoon. The team parted ways with Adrian Colbert, Antone Exum, Marcell Harris, and Tyree Robinson. Some of those names are a surprise while others aren't.

The only remaining safeties are Jimmie Ward, Jaquiski Tartt, and Tarvarius Moore. Both Ward and Tartt ended each of the past two seasons on injured reserve. Moore played cornerback during his 2018 rookie campaign.

The numbers and past health issues are enough to concern fans, but it's unlikely the 49ers kick off Week 1 with just three safeties on the roster.

"Yeah, this is the 53 that oftentimes is fluid, sometimes for 24 hours, sometimes for the first week," general manager John Lynch said via a conference call on Saturday afternoon.

While the 49ers will likely add some help, Lynch did note that there are versatile players in the defensive backs room.

"I will tell you, Matt (Barrows of The Athletic), that some guys like D.J. Reed, we have a lot of versatility in our defensive backfield, whether it's guys like Tarvarius or Jimmie, are playing safety that can play corner. Or guys like D.J. Reed playing corner that have some safety flex. That gives us some flexibility.

"But yeah, I don't think that's unreasonable to expect that we may be making a move to bolster that safety unit."

The 49ers were expected to address the safety position in free agency or the draft. That didn't happen. Expect Lynch and company to make a move before Week 1.

Eric Berry still out there

Just seems like such a no brainer on a 1 year contract.  They are carrying FOUR TEs, so they have the roster space.  They have the cap space.  If he gets hurt again, nothing lost.

Wonder if he has something in place with KC to come back mid season for the playoff run?

Is there any clarity here as to what is going on with the 49ers backfield?

I didn't particularly expect either Coleman or Breida to be a 'bellcow' back but am surprised to see Breida on top of the depth chart.  Any further info our is this just s wait and see?

Well it wasnt pretty but a win is a win. I think theyll get in sync over the next couple of weeks. The penalties were a huge problem, they kept giving TB free 1st downs, and  having 3 TDs called back (2 Kittle, 1 Mostert) was just brutal, as was Jimmys 20+ yard run for a first down getting called back. They need to tighten up. All dumb mistakes.

Jimmy showed rust for sure but after playing very little in the preseason I figured it would take some time for him to get comfortable,  getting Trent Taylor and Hurd in the mix will help, as will Pettis when hes 100%. With Coleman likely to miss a few weeks, Mostert needs more carries. He had 9 carries for 40yds, and a 15yd TD run called back. There's no reason to not get him more involved.

The D-line looked good and will only get better, the linebackers played great (didnt agree with Kwons ejection, it wasnt malicious and he should have got a warning for his 1st personal foul IMO), and Witherspoon looked solid. Im a bit worried about Sherman, he seems to commit penalties when hes about get beat. Hopefully he corrects that.

I didnt like a lot of the playcalling...instead of going for the TD to seal the game, they play it safe to get a FG giving TB a chance to take the lead late in the game?? Cmon, Shanny. Lucky we got that last pick 6. There were several times I thought the playcalling was way too conservative or just weird.

Heres a crazy stat: Our 3 INTs yesterday was one more than we had ALL OF LAST SEASON. Think about that for a second. 2 INTS all last year.

This was also the first East Coast road game the Niners have won since 2014. WHAAAT?!?! Yep. On the road, week 1, in 100 degree heat...Ill take it!

Good to start the season with a win on the road.  Not pretty, but 3 picks and another two easy ones dropped by Alexander and Moore.  Some bad throws by Jamis, but the DBs were in position to make plays, which was encouraging.  Losing Alexander obviously hurt again the run.  He deserved the penalty, but to be booted for that seemed extreme.

Jimmy was meh.  Missed a lot of open receivers and the pick 6 was brutal.  WR group underwhelming, although the TD to James was a thing of beauty.  Pettis needs to get his head out of his ### because they need his playmaking.

Another road win next week and then the Steelers at home.  Like their chances with Ben playing a road game.

Pettis was dealing with a calf injury, hence the low number of plays he was on the field for, I think he will be ok next week. Trent Taylor was having a great camp before he got hurt, I can see Jimmy relying on him quite a bit when he comes back, and Hurd is a matchup nightmare that should also help.

The Bengals played the Seahawks really tough in Seattle, I hope we can beat them in Cincy and go into the home opener 2-0.

Pettis played 2 snaps. If he’s that hurt, he should have been inactive. Something else going on here I think.

Kyle Shanahan explains Dante Pettis’ limited playing time in 49ers’ win vs. Buccaneers

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/128046-shanahan-explains-dante-pettis-limited-playing-49ers-buccaneers/

Wide receiver Dante Pettis was predicted by many to be a candidate for the San Francisco 49ers' breakout player this season. He finished Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a single catch for seven yards. It was the only time Pettis was targeted in the game.

In Pettis' defense, he wasn't out on the field a whole lot. The second-year receiver spent the last couple of weeks dealing with a groin injury. Still, he was a full participant during practices on Thursday and Friday. So why didn't fans see the young receiver out on the field more in Tampa?

"He had health issues," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "That's why he missed a week of practice. He just got cleared to come back on Monday, so he was a little behind the 8 ball on that. But he didn't start the game, and we didn't have a ton of long drives where we got into the substitution flow.

"He went into this game backing up, and when he did go in there, from everything I saw live, he did a hell of a job. So hopefully, he'll work off that and continue to earn some more time out there."

So yeah, he didnt really say much there.

I thought despite limited production, Garrapolo looked good. He had a nice 14 yard scramble on 3rd and 9 called back for a hold but the takeaway there was the health of his knee.

he made some nice throws, and also some poor decisions.

He had 3 TDs in a row taken off the board, one for a bogus penalty on the Kittle TD pass. Add that in and his final line looks a lot better.

Room for improvement for sure with this offense, and losing Coleman didn’t help.

 I remain optimistic.

Lol. Yes, I agree with Shanny. He did a hell of a job on those TWO snaps he was in there.

So Kyle. Care to tell us the real reason he was active and yet only played two snaps?

Sucks that Coleman is out for a while. So much for all the RB depth they had a couple short months ago. Mostert looks really good and Wilson will add some decent depth but still gonna miss Coleman.

The good news for the Coleman situation is having our bye week in week 4, so if he's out 3 weeks he will only miss 2 games, and the first game back after the bye is MNF at home vs the Browns, so he would have an extra day that week. If he's out 4 weeks, he'd miss 3 games and be back for the week 6 game @ the Rams.

I wasn’t impressed with Jimmy at all.  I’ll chalk it up to injury recovery, but if we’re still having this conversation in 4 weeks or so, that will be a problem. He’ll need to earn his franchise QB level salary if they want to make some noise this year.

Oh I agree. I also expect more out of him, and fewer mistakes.

That said, if the D continues to look this good, and if they’re winning games, and he cuts down the Ints, is that good enough for now?

I realize the $ plays a role, and for the $ he’s paid we want to see world-beater numbers. Pretty sure the expectation is “for that kinda $ he’d better be throwing 300/4/0 every week!”

especially for a franchise known for HOF QBs.

But hypothetically speaking, what if in 4 weeks they’re 3-1, and Garrapolo has been efficient & limiting his mistakes?

Say, he’s averaging 200 YPG, 2/0 or 3/1?

Is that enough?

Or will people still be mad/disappointed by JommyG even if they’re winning?

🤔

I have the feeling that the Niners could be 6-3 or 7-2 in week 9, and people will still be calling for Garrapolo’s head because of the contract. They go 11-6 & make the playoffs, but people will still be making JimmyG their scapegoat because the front office decided to pay him that much.

It’s a bit of a lose/lose for JimmyG right now.  By the same token, it’s almost like they could go 2-9, and if JimmyG throws 300/3/0 in those games, folks will still find a way to blame him.

hearing the folks who call in to complain about him on the radio, to a man they bring up the contract.

So I'm just gonna hope they keep winning I we continue to see improvement from Garrapolo, even if it’s incremental. .

I’m sure some will be mad but I’m not complaining about his salary - not my money and they have plenty of cap space. Just saying that this team being dangerous in the short term is pretty dependent on him being a pro bowler.

According to PFF, Bosa led all qualifying NFL edge defenders in pass rush productivity In week 1. Not bad for an NFL debut.

5 49ers Who Impressed in the Week 1 Victory over the Buccaneers

https://www.49ers.com/news/49ers-buccaneers-players-impressed

1. George Kittle

The 49ers tight end earned a 93.1 overall grade, the second highest among tight ends in Week 1. Kittle led the team with eight catches (10 targets) for 54 yards. He hauled in two touchdown receptions that were both called back due to penalties. Kittle was also stout in the run game, earning a 77.7 run blocking grade, good for the third highest among tight ends in the NFL’s opening week with 10 or more run-blocking snaps.

2. Mike Person

Person earned the highest overall grade of any NFL guard in Week 1 with a 83.6 grade. The seventh-year veteran did not allow a single quarterback pressure on the day.

3. Ahkello Witherspoon

Witherspoon helped put the 49ers game away following a pick six late in the fourth quarter. The third-year cornerback allowed just two catches on six targets for 21 yards and clocked two pass breakups, including an imposing deflection over the top of Buccaneers star receiver Mike Evans. Witherspoon earned an 80.8 overall grade, the top mark on the 49ers defense. According to Pro Football Focus, Witherspoon also earned the 49ers highest grade in coverage with an 81.7 mark. His passer rating when targeted was an impressive 4.9.

4. Nick Bosa

San Francisco’s rookie earned a top overall grade following his 49ers debut performance on Sunday. Bosa registered a sack, three quarterback hits, three tackles and six quarterback pressures in 25 pass rush plays (24 percent pressure rate). Bosa's six total pressures were the most by a rookie and his pass-rush “win” rate on 28 percent of his snaps was the highest among all qualifying defensive players in Week 1. The rookie also notched two tackles and a run stop on just 11 snaps. Bosa earned himself a noteworthy 80.5 overall grade in his first game action as a member of the 49ers.

5. Dre Greenlaw

Greenlaw stepped in for Kwon Alexander, who was ejected following a helmet-to-helmet penalty, at WILL linebacker. The rookie linebacker earned the 49ers third-highest overall grade on defense with a 75.7 mark in his regular season debut and added four total tackles on Sunday afternoon.

honorable mentions:

Mark Nzeocha

San Francisco’s linebacker earned a notable 93.6 grade on special teams following a blocked punt that was held to just three yards. Nzeocha’s mark was the highest special teams grade of any non-specialist (kicker or punter) in Week 1. The linebacker replaced Greenlaw at SAM linebacker and responded to the added snaps by recording his first-career interception, picking off Winston in the second quarter.

Raheem Mostert

Mostert stepped up when Tevin Coleman went down with an ankle injury. The special teams standout led the 49ers running backs with 40 yards on nine carries. He also had a 15-yard touchdown that was wiped out due to a penalty. A striking 38 of his 40 rushing yards came after contact. Shanahan expects Mostert to continue to take on a larger role on offense with Coleman expected to miss some time.

Witherspoon looked like a different player out there.  Love the aggressiveness he showed this week.  Lets see him back it up this week.

Only 2 starting QBS in week one have fewer NFL starts than Jimmy G, who has 11 career starts: Lamar Jackson with 8 starts, and Kyler Murray with 1 start.

Crazy.

Are we allowed to debate the outcome of this week?

I thought Cinci played well last week and I thought the Bucs gave the game away vs a dominant SF performance. I'm reading fans on here penciling in 10-11 wins and I think that might be a little optimistic over a Week 1 win vs the Bucs. I expect Cinci to compete hard this week and challenge for the win. I would be a little surprised if San Fran walks in and runs them out of the stadium. They just traveled cross country, now they come back again the very next week, travel could take a toll or play a roll if the game is tight.

Good Luck though, not trying to stir the pot, should be a good game.

They actually spent the week in Youngstown Ohio.  Didn't make the trip back to Santa Clara

A strategy they used back in the Eddie D days.  No travel and no time changes to deal with.

I don't know quite where to go with that, it was a small part of the entire pie here but it doesn't matter, it's B2B Road games so again in terms of match ups and gameplan, how are these two teams matching up? I'm saying they are a lot closer than some folks seem to think. I would not just be assuming win this week over Cinci is all I'm getting at.

OK, but the fact that SF didn’t travel back to the coast and then back to Cincinnati does play into it. Much of the west to east time zone games are an issue based on the body clock of players which should not be an issue now.

Hard to gauge on one game. Bengals were expected to be blown out but almost (and from what I read since I didn’t see the game, should have won) pulled out the win. 49ers definitely have a pass rush this year so Dalton won’t have as much time as he had Sunday, so don’t expect the same level of pass success as he had Sunday. If Bosa is a no go, that changes things.

Doubt many 49er fans assume any win at this point.  Garoppolo still shaking off the rust and the WRs are sketchy.  Expect a lot of Kittle this week and think Samual gets 7-8 targets and expect him to be the dominant WR the rest of the season.

Niners win 27-20

49ers injury news: Kyle Shanahan plans to have Jalen Hurd, Trent Taylor, Tevin Coleman back after bye week, hoping for next week

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/128227-shanahan-plans-49ers-jalen-trent-taylor-coleman-hoping/

Rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd has not played since the San Francisco 49ers' second preseason game. He has been dealing with a back injury since. Wide receiver Trent Taylor suffered a fractured foot before that game and has not played or practiced since.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes to get his offensive weapons back after the team's Week 4 bye, maybe even sooner.

"[Having them back after the bye is] the plan," Shanahan told reporters after Friday's practice in Youngstown, Ohio. "I hope so, and I hope there's a chance next week. But that's really the goal."

Shanahan views running back Tevin Coleman's (ankle) status as similar to his injured receivers'. He, like the Hurd and Taylor, is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The hope is to have Coleman back after the bye week with anything before that being a bonus.

Offense looked good today, but I have no idea why Jimmy was still in for the last half of the 4th quarter. Not smart, Kyle.

Deebo looked great outside of one easy drop, the running backs looked great, pass rush was on point, the O-line played lights out but losing Staley is huge

Another TD was called back because of a holding penalty, but I don't have much to criticize today. 2-0 on the road to start the season. Haters gonna be mad!!!

Joe Staley breaks fibula, could be out 8 weeks

https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/128314-joe-staley-suffers-broken-fibula-49ers-week-bengals/

Left tackle Joe Staley went down with what appeared to be a lower leg injury late in the third quarter, following a run block where running back Jeff Wilson tripped over Staley's leg:

Staley stayed down on the field for a short while before walking gingerly off the field with some assistance. But he needed to be carted off the field and into the locker room shortly thereafter and did not return. In his place, the Niners inserted rookie swing tackle Justin Skule to close out the game.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Staley suffered a broken fibula.

"We'll find out more tomorrow," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "It should be less than eight weeks, so I don't think [Staley] will be an IR candidate."

The good news is Staley will likely be made available later in the season, reinforcing an offensive line that already has some depth question marks entering 2019. Notably after already having lost swing tackle Shon Coleman to a season-ending injury earlier in the preseason.

"Any time you lose your left tackle, it's always significant," the head coach continued. "Especially when the guy who backed him up, we lost in the preseason. We've got Skule, we've got [Daniel] Brunskill. Guys will have to step it up."

Brunskill had been inactive for San Francisco's first two games of the season. With Staley out indefinitely, that will assuredly change, and it wouldn't be overly shocking to see the 49ers make a roster move between now and their Week 3 home matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Unfortunate for Joe," Shanahan said. "I know how bad he wants to be out there. Once we accept the injury, at least we'll still get him back later this year."

Well, that was fun

All around great game on both sides. Sucks to lose Staley for 8 weeks. One position they have zero depth at.

Trent Taylor to IR. This sucks, he had the nest camp of any WR, and I saw.a nice season for him. He just can't stay healthy.

They also signed tackle Sam Young for some OL depth.

Played for Miami Dolphins, he was a quality back up, sometimes thrust into a starting role.

Just picked up Deebo in my league, just like the involvement in the offense and think because he is a rookie that his role will continue to evolve and expand as the season rolls along.

Not sure I am starting him just yet but I like his upside.

Winning ugly but winning.

Gutsy game from Jimmy.  He got hammered all game but sucked it up threw the winning TD.

Great defensive game with the exception of the two long TDs. Vernett looked like he was unprepared. Hope Witherspoon is OK. That would hurt

When I saw Spoon heading off, I was excited to see Verrett come in...2 plays later I didnt wanna see him any more. Sheesh! He looked lost.

Other than the turnover plays I thought the offense looked good, they moved the ball pretty easily but just kept shooting themselves in the foot.

I was surprised we didn't get more sacks, the pressure was there but Rupolph is pretty shifty and kept barely escaping.

So yeah, kind if an ugly win but three and oh is all that matters heading into the bye. Time to get some rest and come back hungry in week 5 and hopefully we will get Coleman back and Hurd will play.

It's good to be a Niner fan today.

Versus a better team we would have been pasted having that many turnovers. Very frustrating game from an offensive standpoint as we were moving the ball well.

On the plus side I think our defense is legit. Other than the big play from Juju and Verrett looking like he just woke up from a nap I didn't think the Steelers were going to score an offensive TD on us.

I'll take the 3-0 start with definite room for improvement. Bring on the Browns!

When I saw the schedule and the early bye, I thought it was a bad thing.  Looks pretty good now.  Lot of people can use the extra week to heal up.

Browns OL looked really bad tonight.  Buckner and crew should feast on Mayfield in two weeks.

Baby steps.

Defense played well enough to minimize the damage.

3-0. An ugly W is still a W.

I’m an old guy - I was 28 the last time they were 3-0. That was a lifetime ago. Feels awesome.

To the naysayers, you can only play the teams on the schedule, as they say.

Go Niners.

Wins don’t get any uglier than that, and the number of Steelers fans was disconcerting (is there any way in which that stadium has not been a total disaster?). The good news is that the defense is obviously 1000x better than it has been in years and I think Jimmy is looking better and better. Most of those turnovers seemed to be freak plays.
