Slowly closing in my final line up (for today).  I believe I have had every line up possible with different combos of RB's in the $20 range.  This current group does have a significant injury risk.

Last players cut at each position:

QB-Jones $4, Allen $11,

RB-Montgomery $18, Ekeler $16, Singletary $8

WR-Smith-Schuster $30, Golladay $21, Lockett $19, Gallup $10, Dorsett $4, Reynolds $4

TE- Walker $12, Dissly $7

I think this is pretty strong. obvious drop off from Godwin. food for thought, you could have Tyler Lockett instead of Westbrook if you dumped Cleveland

Ownership of the Carson/Duke Johnson combo just went ski high.

True....if you want to give yourself a nasty shock research how many kickers are subject to a competition.  In the $3 - 4 range, its 90% of them.
It has moved into the $5 range too.  As for the cheap kickers, here are a few I feel comfortable with:

Daniel Carlson (OAK - $3) - IMO the Vikings gave up too quickly on him.  In week 2, he missed from 48 & 49 yards, then missed from 35.  Yes, it cost MIN the win; instead they tied.  OAK picked him up for the last 10 games of the season, and he went 16/17 on FG's (only miss was from 45), and a perfect 18/18 on EP's.

Jason Sanders (MIA - $3) - the rookie kicked very well, hitting 18/20 FG's (only misses were 46 & 47), along with 35/36 on EP's.  I just wish he played on a team that could move the ball.  Kind of strange the two $3 kickers I trust the most to keep their jobs were last year's rookies.

Guess we'll know how many entries set their lineup at the beginning of the month and promptly forgot (Luck)

Yep

Many of us had Duke as soon as he went to Houston but that number will definitely increase. I've had Carson for a long time, was on the fence between him and a slightly cheaper option.

Nothing is locked but I'm pretty confident most of my roster won't change barring injury

What is the story with Carson? Did he get some good news?

Duke was the first must own; Gordon just became the second
I don’t have a good feeling about Gordon this year.  His past history is not good.  I truly hope he got the help he needed but I just don’t think he will make it all season.

Oh, me neither, but can you afford to not roster him for the low price of $6?  For $6 you are probably looking for about 4 startable games?

Great info in this thread... very much appreciated.

RB - Tony Pollard - DAL/8 - $4
WR - Cooper Kupp - LAR/9 - $20
WR - Allen Robinson - CHI/6 - $17
WR - Corey Davis - TEN/11 - $15
WR - Dede Westbrook - JAX/10 - $13
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/11 - $11
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $10
WR - Mecole Hardman - KC/12 - $5
TE - Greg Olsen - CAR/7 - $10

TD - Philadelphia Eagles - PHI/10 - $6
TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/8 - $5

QB - Carson Wentz - PHI/10 - $19
QB - Jared Goff - LAR/9 - $14

Powerful duo, but their byes mesh badly.  Wentz vs CHI week 9; Goff vs PIT week 10

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/7 - $25
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Miles Sanders - PHI/10 - $15
RB - Royce Freeman - DEN/10 - $14
RB - Alexander Mattison - MIN/12 - $6
RB - Darwin Thompson - KC/12 - $5
RB - Tony Pollard - DAL/8 - $4

What, no Duke?  2 sets of bye conflicts is something to think about, but not horrible because they don't involve your top dogs

WR - Cooper Kupp - LAR/9 - $20
WR - Allen Robinson - CHI/6 - $17
WR - Corey Davis - TEN/11 - $15
WR - Dede Westbrook - JAX/10 - $13
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/11 - $11
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $10
WR - Mecole Hardman - KC/12 - $5

Certainly deep enough to get 2 usable scores each week, and flex scores too

TE - Greg Olsen - CAR/7 - $10
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $9

Olsen would scare me as top TE, has played 16 of 32 games last 2 years; Andrews is good value

PK - Giorgio Tavecchio - ATL/9 - $5
PK - Dan Bailey - MIN/12 - $4

Monitor Tavecchio - he hasn't won the job yet

TD - Philadelphia Eagles - PHI/10 - $6
TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/8 - $5

Gotta love teams that get multiple games vs WAS & NYG

I've had Duke in there,  but it gets hard when you're trying to fine tune!

I'm not happy with my TE's, but I find myself not wanting to sacrifice other positions for TE

am I the only one not rostering Duke?

I made the mistake last year rostering goodwin because "everyone else was." So far avoiding it this year

The masses had more hits than misses.  Let me ask - for $9, what would be a fair amount of usable games?  Let's call a double digit game usable for the purposes of my question.

I just dont see Duke as any more valuable than maybe 10 or 12 dollars. and theres a handful of guys I like better than him at 10 or 12.

so I guess if you have 9 bucks hes an easy choice. I'm certainly not targeting him

I am 100% sold on him at $9, for so many reasons.

Nice looking roster.

Only hesitation right now is whether $80 in known dead money, and two assumed weekly starters off in week 12 is a horrible idea.

Depends on what positions those $80 are coming from, and whether you left enough firepower to advance through week 12

I would consider combining Andrews, Gesicki, and Uzomah into Engram, and using the remaining $3 on a third D.  But if you like having the depth at TE, I kinda like the guys you picked

I have to believe if he does have those 4 usable games, they are most likely to occur earlier in the season.  I think the probability he does not finish the season is higher with him than almost any other player in the NFL right now.

I'm not saying you can ignore the early season games because people still get cut, but I had Josh Gordon selected and just switched him over to Chase Edmunds ($6), who I feel is more likely to have his splash games, probably about 4, later in the season, either due to DJ injury, or just the offense starting to figure things out under the new system.

Its just my take, and I very well could eat the words, but I don't think JG is a must-pick at all.  It also comes down to roster construction, byes, and 1,342,248 other variables that I can't fit on a spreadsheet.  :)

Last year you needed one less "o".

I just thought about the contest for the first time year this weekend when the thought crossed my mind, "Wonder how much Duke Johnson costs."

Time to do the work. Last year's gimmick team (strictly SOS-based) got flattened just a couple bye weeks in by poor choices.

My latest iteration...

I've found myself doing the bye-week mambo quite a bit in this contest, trying out combinations of players I thought would be fantastic!  Only to realize there are too many bye week conflicts.

Anyways, in this contest, a small roster is very risk averse.  However, with this year's pricing, a larger roster while safer... falls into danger of being mediocre.

So, I'm going balls to the wall!  It's better to go out in a blaze of glory than to fizzle out!  That said...

Lots of QB firepower, reasonably priced.  Nuff said

QB - Carson Wentz - PHI/10 - $19
QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $14

Chris Carson is a no-brainer and will probably be the most owned RB in the contest this year.  I thought about either Breida or Duke Johnson quite a bit, but Houston's OL really scares me.
RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/7 - $25
RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/12 - $24
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Matt Breida - SF/4 - $9

This is without a doubt the meat and potatoes of my squad.  Five receivers that I highly believe in.
WR - Davante Adams - GB/11 - $33
WR - Brandin Cooks - LAR/9 - $22
WR - Robby Anderson - NYJ/4 - $17
WR - DeSean Jackson - PHI/10 - $11
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $10

OJ Howard could be in for a really big year, and I'm digging the Cousins-Rudolph connection.
TE - O.J. Howard - TB/7 - $18
TE - Kyle Rudolph - MIN/12 - $12

Kickers...
PK - Josh Lambo - JAX/10 - $4
PK - Jason Sanders - MIA/5 - $3
PK - Daniel Carlson - OAK/6 - $3

Seahawks were big for me last year, gonna ride 'em again, and Jets are a cheap option with lots of upside.
TD - Seattle Seahawks - SEA/11 - $5
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/4 - $3

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/7 - $25
RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/12 - $24
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Matt Breida - SF/4 - $9
This looks eerily familiar!    I agree Carson will likely be the highest owned RB.

RB - Nick Chubb - CLE/7 - $25
RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/12 - $24
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Justice Hill - BAL/8 - $9
RB - Darwin Thompson - KC/12 - $5

And now for something completely different (than my last post)

And I expect this will change again in the next week and a half.

QB - Lamar Jackson - BAL/8 - $12
QB - Tom Brady - NE/10 - $11
QB - Daniel Jones - NYG/11 - $4

Debated on Jameis instead of Brady here, and may still go that route.

RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/12 - $24
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Latavius Murray - NO/9 - $16
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/7 - $13
RB - Duke Johnson - HOU/10 - $9

I'm a lemming on the Carson/Johnson thing.  I like Cook as a top 5 RB this year, and if Murray gets six useable starts, he's value.  I think he gets more.

WR - Julio Jones - ATL/9 - $32
WR - JuJu Smith-Schuster - PIT/7 - $30
WR - Tyler Lockett - SEA/11 - $19
WR - Deebo Samuel - SF/4 - $9
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6

Not loving Deebo, and it's kind of a wing and a prayer, but he fit moneywise and bye week wise after I had the other spots filled.

TE - O.J. Howard - TB/7 - $18
TE - Darren Waller - OAK/6 - $8

IMO. Howard and Engram are better values than Kelce, Ertz and Kittle.

PK - Matt Gay - TB/7 - $3
PK - Daniel Carlson - OAK/6 - $3
PK - Zane Gonzalez - ARI/12 - $3

Three cheap kickers who have a better shot than most at keeping their jobs.

TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/8 - $5
TD - Arizona Cardinals - ARI/12 - $4
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $3

Defenses are less of a crapshoot, but I like to have three so that I'm not "stuck" with just one on a bye week.

One thing that I like about this iteration is that not only do I have no like bye weeks per position, but my top two RBs and top two WRs have four different bye weeks.

As long as you like the guys you chose, I love your approach.  I would consider adding top TE into the bye week approach with your top 2 at RB & WR.  I typically don't add top QB into the mix, unless my QB2 is a dud.  As an example, if you had Mahomes/Jones as your only QB's, and Kittle/Lacosse as your only TE's, You would have no bye conflicts with your QB1, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, and TE1.

As for Deebo, since you said he basically fit your team, I would consider turning him into 2 cheaper WR's you like better.  Perhaps a duo like Danny Amendola & Demarcus Robinson, whose byes are 5 & 12.

QB - Lamar Jackson - BAL/8 - $12
QB - Tom Brady - NE/10 - $11

Brady seems to put up stats no matter who is around him, and is an ironman.  He has played all 16 games nine out of the last ten years (missed 4 games in 2016).  During this span, he topped 30 TD's six times, and would've topped it 7 if he had played those other 4 games in 2016.  He has averaged 4500 yards/33 TD's, and hasn't slowed down.  The only negative is no rushing stats.  A couple dives into the end zone is all you can hope for.  Hopefully his consistency meshes well with Lamar's boom/bust games.  Overall, not a strong duo, but we get what we pay for.  Hey, you never know - last year's contest winner had Trubisky, Dalton, and Darnold.

RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/7 - $35
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/11 - $18
RB - Duke Johnson - HOU/10 - $9
RB - Devin Singletary - BUF/6 - $8
RB - Darwin Thompson - KC/12 - $5

As you said, not alot of depth.  You are basically counting on Singletary & Thompson breaking out in the second half of the season.  I think Duke will be fine, not a lot of monster games, but well worth his bucks.  CMC seems a safe choice, and Carson is just too much value to pass up.  Health of your top 2 is a must.

WR - Julio Jones - ATL/9 - $32
WR - Dede Westbrook - JAX/10 - $13
WR - Tyrell Williams - OAK/6 - $13
WR - Curtis Samuel - CAR/7 - $12
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/11 - $11
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $10
WR - Cole Beasley - BUF/6 - $6
WR - Josh Gordon - NE/10 - $6

One top stud and 7 hopefuls.  I have put alot of thought into Tyrell Williams with AB going nuts.  Gallup may also be undervalued with Amari's bum foot.  Julio should put up a weekly starter score, so you are just hoping for a decent game from a few per week.

TE - George Kittle - SF/4 - $25
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/8 - $9

Early bye for the stud is always a good thing.  Andrews will be a flex from time to time.

PK - Greg Joseph - CLE/7 - $3
PK - Steve Hauschka - BUF/6 - $3
PK - Zane Gonzalez - ARI/12 - $3

Joseph scares me.  If he keeps his job, he will be worth the dough.  Same with Zane.  Good luck.

TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $3
TD - New York Jets - NYJ/4 - $3

If I had only $6, this is the combo I go for.

Please help.

I have elite WR PTSD.

Whenever I try to commit to a WR > $20, I convince myself that their downside outweighs the potential benefit.
