kid wants one (11)

anyone have one?  What’s best VR option?

hes getting a low end gaming desktop for Xmas but I like that the quest is standalone , but I also don’t like that it’s standalone

we don’t have a PS4 so that options out

It is a stand alone but a new cord just came out that connects it to a gaming PC to play some more intensive games. I’ve got one coming Tuesday. Can’t wait.

If he starts spending a lot of time with his door closed and not coming out, just know he has found VR porn. I can imagine it being worse than crack to a pre pubescent boy. I know if I had it at that age, I would never have left my room.

The quest is the one that merely requires a phone app versus a well spec'd PC.

My son asking for one as well.

All i got.

Why not buy a playstation 4 instead of low end gaming pc?

I was looking at this after an add popped up on FB. How are the gaming options, didn't seem like a lot from what I saw in the ad?

Any Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals?  How does the content work?  Do you buy content or is there a subscription?

Free Vader Immortal, that’s prolly as good as you’re gonna get. If you have a 10% eBay bucks email you can get it from Best Buy off eBay. You buy content off their site right from the device.

Too late, but I picked up a Playstation and PSVR for $400 combined on Black Friday.  It's a Christmas gift for the kids so it's just sitting in a closet laughing at me.

Brother-in-law has one, and I really had a lot of fun with it.  Beatsaber is great.

Hope you guys stocked up, Oculus Quest sold out everywhere and going for 150%+ on eBay.

Looking for one for the kids for Christmas so if anyone sees them come back in stock anywhere, let me know.  TIA!

I got the Quest for Christmas.  It is really cool.  I even like watching Amazon Prime shows/movies on it.  It is like sitting in a theater.

Thrill of the Fight gave me a good workout.  Vader Immortal 1 was outstanding.  Any other recommendations?

Got both my kids Quests for xmas.  They have logged roughly 100000 hours each so far.

They love it.

They have Star Wars, a shoot em up game, and the boxing game.

Beat Saber is incredible.  Watching videos doesn't do it justice - just pick it up and give it a try.

Just tried Thrill of the Fight.

Confirmed, I can whoop 5ft nothing professional boxers.

eta - I might puke though.

Just tried Echo VR game.  Think three on three person Frisbee basketball in zero g.  Very fun.

I prefer the Vive Pro and run a Razer gaming laptop with NVIDIA RTX 2080. There are so many great games now in VR like Half-Life Alyx. And you can have meetings in VR which has been a nice change up from video calls during this pandemic.

Does anyone have the Oculus Quest 2?  I see it at Target/Best Buy and others for $299, am thinking about getting one for our family since we are all just staying home over thanksgiving.

I see lots of people complaining about the Facebook tie-in.  I don't have a facebook account, but would think I could just set up a single purpose account like "Cletius Oculus" or something and never use it, right?

Except their extensive online tracking and profile building still allows them to know who you are even without a Facebook account. Won't ever get any Facebook product, they have shown they're willing to sell all of your data without any consideration to who is actually buying it. Sucks though because I was really excited for the Oculus tech when it first came out.

It will need to be a verifiable Facebook account.  People have been locked out of oculus for using a fake account

Definitely interested in hearing more about the Oculus Quest 2 as well. Especially how well it works if you wear glasses.

Ordered the Quest 2.  Didn't currently have a FB account so set one up for this purpose only.   Don't plan to add any FB friends.

I may have to take the plunge on this, since it appears unlikely I'll be able to get an Xbox by 12/25.  Would appreciate some feedback on this question:

The Quest 2 is $299 on Amazon and elsewhere for the 64 gb version.

For $399, Costco has the 256 gb version and includes the "fit pack."

As far as I can tell, other retailers also have the 256 gb version for $399, not including the fit pack.  The fit pack is available separately for about $50.

Any recommendations/advice on 64 gb v 256 gb for an extra $100?  This will be for my son, and I expect he and his buddies will be the only users.

I am curious to hear if the people and kids that have had one of these since last Christmas still use it.  It seems like one of those things that is cool for 1-2 months but then collects dust.

From what I am reading, the 64 gb is fine as long as you don't mind loading/unloading games if needed. I have not had that issue with my quest 1.   I don't think this will be an issue unless you are downloading movies to the quest.  I have no input on the fit pack.

I can't speak for myself because I only got the Quest 2 a couple of days ago, but a guy I work with still uses the one he got last year for fitness purposes.  He has a boxing and tai chi "games" that are a good workout apparently.

I made the mistake of playing a rollercoaster game standing up last night.  I almost fell over and my stomach was still queasy a couple hours later.  Was much safer sitting down.  :D

Usage dropped off quite a bit but still gets used.  I feel like a lot of games are short though, so if they don’t have anything new to play they lay off

im getting them the link cable this year, so I guess they can hook to Pc and play some additional games

that reminds me I still need to finish up Vader Immortal

I decided to jump into VR and grabbed that Costco deal yesterday. Keys for me: stand-alone (so no PC, console or inserting a smart phone into the glasses), Star Wars games (especially the lightsaber dojo), and interested in the possibilities for watching live concerts or movies on it. With doing those things, or even traveling, limited in real-life for awhile, it might be a worthy way to experience them.
