If you can't access the article or don't want to here is the biggest takeaway below, which some of you may have already been aware but I was not.
The Steelers currently have only 22 players under contract for 2022 (second fewest in the league) and have the most cap space ($106 million) and effective cap space ($90 million) in the NFL based on a $203 million cap projection. In 2023, they have only six players under contract as of now and will have somewhere in the neighborhood of $194 million to spend, depending on how high the new television deal affects the cap. Right now, that projection is at $225 million.
Those cap commitments will change over the next 13 months with two draft classes and the imminent extensions for Watt and Fitzpatrick.
