2020 Music Thread. 9/11 - Flaming Lips, Everything Everything (2 Viewers)

Not sure if it's been mentioned but "Folklore" by Taylor Swift is probably the best album of the year imo. It's not pop music... Not even sure how to describe it. It's just good ### music
It's the guys from the national behind it...

I liked it ok. Feel like it needed more swift hooks, less rambling...and I like rambling.

Public Enemy Number Won was the highlight of a really nice RR week for me that included Menzingers, Royal Blood, Ratboys, Early Work, The Queers, Teenage Halloween, Alien Nosejob and Knuckle Puck.

Other stuff on the RR...

Style council- different version of Dropping Bombs on the White house (my HS band covered that one) that I'm digging.

Hoodoo Gurus

Los scallywags

Dizzee rascal

Fuzz

OMG! New Rainbow Kitten Surprise on my RR! IHSAB!
Just getting to mine now...Our Song got playlisted after 3 notes.

YLT has been a big boring miss for me the last year

Some stuff I like this week...

bee bee sea

Mourn (they have been great lately)

Sego

TRAAMS

Wolfgang Press (I know it's old /unrerelease, but great to hear from an underrated band from innaday).

Budos Band

Spotify algorithm gremlins have it stuck in their heads that I just love the new Dirty Projectors album, so hit me with it on every playlist. Hey spotify...no likey this one

Touché Amoré with a new album called Lament. Pitchfork gives a rock/hardcore album an 8.2. Production by Ross Robinson of Korn and Limp Bizkit fame. Also of At The Drive-In and Blood Brothers records.

I know those first two acts are not necessarily a selling point in any way imaginable, but the next two are, and the band sounds great. Steel guitars and hardcore? Sometimes it makes sense.

Song and album link: Come Heroine

What a completely buzzy, feel-good emo song for once!

And I'm just a risk on the top of the moon
When I swore I'd seen everything -- I saw you.

RR looks promising this week...

Cloud nothings

GRMLN

gbv

A place to bury strangers

Django django

Viagra boys

Liam bailey

Dumb punts

Wiley

Psychedelic porn crumpets

Kevin morby

Last week had a new ac/dc, which sounded like old ac/dc...in a good way.

Eta...new Pixies have done next to nothing for me. TRex cover mambo sun on today's list seems particularly pointless.

Pretty excited about a bunch this week...

These new south whales

Los scallywogs

Coathangers

Nilufer yanya

Lambchop

Fuzz

PUP

Pylon (?...assume it's a rerelease or b side)

####### hell...they close it out with yet another Dirty Projector's crap tune.

I will say- I've liked everything I've heard from the new Plants & Animals, seems like their best since their first. I'll have to spend some time listening to the whole thing

Not sure who all still listens to them, but Blue Oyster Cult released their first new album in nearly 20 years.  Not bad at all.  Has a few keepers.

I’ll have to check out that Plants and Animals. I can’t recall what I’ve thought of their recent output but I liked their stuff from a while back.

In honor of his very unjust, forced vacation, the first paragraph of our review of PUP's EP is dedicated to our good friend NV and the last concert he enjoyed, in his hometown, prior to the covid lockdown. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/pup-this-place-sucks-###-ep/

NV would probably like the new album from Acceptance.  It's got kind of a Killers vibe to it with a widescreen sound that builds on the band's Emo roots.

NV was banned?  What did he do? Pimp a post Malone album?

The OBGMs The Ends rips. Stefan Babcock (PUP) co wrote a couple songs on it, if that helps. Don't compare them to Bad Brains, they don't like that at all (they don't sound anything like them but they are black and punk)
