2020 Music Thread. 9/11 - Flaming Lips, Everything Everything (2 Viewers)

The OBGMs The Ends rips. Stefan Babcock (PUP) co wrote a couple songs on it, if that helps. Don't compare them to Bad Brains, they don't like that at all (they don't sound anything like them but they are black and punk)

WTFRU
This is better than the PUP EP, I think

I'll probably spend December listing to Chris Farren's xmas album on repeat, so in an attempt to narrow it down to a top-20 I am using November to review my albums of the year list.  It is going to come from the following list of 37... #1 is a lock, after that it is not really ranked, but there are some vague tiers in there. Just thought I'd share.

Dear Spotify, my release radar sucks hard this week... I guess I should have stuck to my 2020-in review plan.  My bad.

OMD remix, New Order, wolfgang press, tones on tail, ac/dc, parliament, pylon...wtf...this ain't 1982.  Not going to cut it in 2020.

First song on my radar is Barry Gibb!
Parliament isn't THAT parliament. Sounds like an English white hip hop attempt. With special guest star Wes Welker, coming out of retirement from leading my dynasty team to many wins. Might be Walker, but I'm sticking with it.

Don't go bogarting that #### on us...
Heh. This thread also gets love, for sure, especially since it's a 2020 release. Love the first track "Chubby and The Gang Rule OK?" Were they mentioned earlier in here?

New Aesop Rock out the past few days. Sounds...interesting. Good. Not sure about great. I think my Aesop Rock quotient hit paydirt at Skelethon and nothing has been quite as good before or since. That was an underappreciated opus from 2012.

Pylon is always cool.
Love them. But a 40 yo re-release in my RR, less so.

And for some reason....and I'm not complaining...the spots algorithms have been feeding me a fair bit of them the last few months. I was more happy to see/hear Wolfgang Press...but again, a rerelease of demos from back innaday.

My RR looks pretty solid this week...looking forward to listening later. First five songs...

BRONCHO

kg&lw

Shame

Cloud Nothings

Bass Drum of Death

Eta...dizzee rascal and slowthai

Nick Cave's Idiot Prayer was released today, after the live performance was streamed earlier this year.  I've had it on all day. If you like Nick Cave, its a must.  Lots of stuff I've never heard before.  If you don't like Nick Cave, at least give this version of Mercy Seat a listen and may god have mercy on your soul.

The new Scott H Biram surprise release is fantastic.  Fever Dreams

Not breaking new ground, more of the same country punk gospel stuff he’s been doing forever.

Been a hard year to track music for me due to work not allowing earpods. Looking forward to going through some of those...I know there's a lot that I completely missed this year.

Top of my head albums..

Idles

Mourn

Sports Team

Fontaines DC

Thundercat

....my head is empty.
You have unironically said “if you get ratioed, it means you’re doing something right.” None of your offline friends understand what ratioing is, and none of your online friends understand why you have a rose emoji in your bio but retweet videos from those centrist grifters at The Lincoln Project.

Well, yeah.

Am I the only one who think Miley Cyrus has crushed the end of 2020?

First, you've got her outstanding cover of Pearl Jam's "Just Breath".

Followed by an excellent tribute to the likes of Stevie Nicks, Pat Benetar and Blondie with "Midnight Sun" off her new album, "Plastic Hearts".

It's pop rock done right.  I'm really enjoying it.

Spotify's version of my top songs reflects what a mess this year was.

I typically listen to spotify all day at work. Normally, I'll dig into each of the RR and DW playlists a couple days and then ultimately settle into listening to my year playlist or catchall playlist...or the sportify daily my playlists.

Im not allowed to listen at my current job. Sucks. So my year top songs are stuff from precovid...mostly IDLES and tropical #### storm.

Sigur Ros new one sounds like they've been listening to a lot of Gorecki and Part. I'm liking it.

Chilly Gonzalez with a Christmas album- his beaty side, not his classical one.

Viagra Boys, Pist Idiots also with decent new songs. Glasvegas too.

Eta...new Sleaford Mods with a good post punk bass line to go with their lofi beats. Better than their recent stuff.

And new Einsturzende Neubaten?

To go with a french duet by Iggy and Elvis?

And an instrumental of Ace of Spades.

Strange week for RR.
