I listened to this album a few days ago and really enjoyed it.

I'll be going back to it soon.  And I'll have to check out his last one.

If you like this one, I think you'll definitely like the last one as well.

2020 albums/songs thread. Kupcho hasn't been around in a while. I'll try and change the thread title on Fridays. Give me your playlist links and I'll add below.    Stereogum most anticipated

In addition to that great Andy Shauf track, here's a few of my favorite new tracks: Feel the Way I Want by Caroline Rose : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3EwDk1zY6g Unchained by Devon Gilf

Hum's reunion album is pretty good if you liked them the first time around.

I know Oasis has never been a board favorite but I still miss the lads.  Former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson does a nice Oasis rip-off on Walls.  So much so that he gave Noel Gallagher a songwriting credit.  It's even better than One Direction mate Niall Horan's Stone Roses homage Nice To Meet Ya from late last year.

That's it for this week in ex-boybands.

One of the guys in Iceage was in menudo.

I don’t understand how this is possible but I believe you.

Elias Bender Rønnenfelt killed the bass player, cut up his stomach and threw it in the stew.

New Deacon is pretty good. First new album I’ve heard this year. What has stood out for everyone?

I've not listened to much yet and those that I have, it was only once but I've liked:

Kiwi Jr. - Football Money

Andy Shauf - The Neon Skyline

Looking forward to settling in with the new Destroyer tonight.  I'll also give the Dan Deacon a listen too.

I will try the Destroyer but I can just never get into him. The Deacon album has one of his usual 4 part extended works in the middle and I think it's the weak point in the album but I really like whats before and after it.

More Wire listening TK. This will be my bookmark. Not bad. Not bad at all.

It's the throw down
With the tag-team angle
It's the face-off
With the cheap shot low blow

Nice to hear from Wolf Parade again.

I liked French indie band En Attendant Ana but that might be a personal thing.

On the classical side, there are probably a hundred recordings of Beethoven's late quartets but the new set from the Brodsky Quartet is good if you want to hear another one.

Rip Andy Gill, guitarist and cofounder of gang of four.

RIP. Loved their sound.

Looked at the wiki page and saw he helped produce the Futureheads' debut, which I didn't realize at the time, but it makes perfect sense.

Gill's jagged guitar playing was a huge influence on four decades of post-punk music.  He kept the band going after their 2011 reunion.  I wasn't a big fan of the post-Jon King records but Go4 always put on a great live show.

Yeah... I mentioned the guitar sound in the rip thread- so distinctive and so replicated since. I'm with you in not digging the later stuff.

This was the first song I heard from them on Urghh!!! A music war live comp. Iirc, by the time I had the album, they were already on to their more dancey stuff with love a man in a uniform (also great).

Had no idea about his many producing credits.

Really looking forward to my own personal tradition of reading all sorts of glowing reviews for a new Destroyer album, getting two songs in, and then feeling like the internet's playing an elaborate joke on me.

I get you.  He's definitely polarizing.

I think most of his albums are great but know many that don't.

I must say, I'm a bit disappointed after a couple of listens to this new one...not bad, but I liked his last 3 albums much more at this point.  We shall see.

New Nada Surf didn't blow me away.

I kind of like the new Green Day.  It's fun to play spot the influence as they shamelessly rip off other songs.

The Supersuckers have even less new to say than Green Day but it's fun too.

It's not as bad as the singles would lead you to believe. They kind of cram all of their dumb ideas in the first few songs (singing falsetto, Joan Jett interpolations, etc.), and then get more or less back to basics on the second half of the album. I think they're done making front-to-back awesome records (Insomniac, Nimrod), but a few good tunes every couple years is something I guess.

Has anything ever been more for me than the new craft beer collaboration between Town Brewery (which is excellent and under an hour from my house) and freaking PUP!#!#!#  And it's even named for 'Scorpion Hill' and all proceeds go to charity

I'm going to recommend Andy Shauf - The Neon Skyline, he's been growing in popularity in some time up here. His last album was a concept album set at one night at a party. The new one is also a concept album set at a Toronto diner. It's folky, sometimes moody, well written, where you probably want to pay attention to the lyrics. I just noticed it even caught Pitchfork's attention with a 7.9, which for this type of music these days is pretty high praise but it's been getting strong reviews up here for a while.

Try Again

Neon Skyline

I listened based on your description/recommendation - love it!

ETA: I wanted to reply to this thread anyway with a comment about how much I love the new Alien Nosejob LP... another Aussie band that makes me think that Australian music is my spirit animal.  This review sums up the album better than I can - it's... eclectic(?)  but awesome.  Kind of Parquet Courts meets IDLES meets Clowns... but not really?  I dunno, something like that.

P.S. they also released a punk AF EP this month that almost makes them sound like a different band.  I hope they go on a KGaTLW-like streak this year with record releases.

I'm going to try to get 24 when they go on sale. If I do, I can send you a 6-pack.

I'm seeing them the day before they go on sale and leaving for Florida the day they go on sale, so hopefully I'm clear headed and organized enough to remember

Very cool. Scorpion Hill sounds better than Reservoir Swill.

Still love that song. KEXP was alive when they played that back in 2014/5 or so.

Here's a playlist I created this past week, using my favorite local College Radio station as a guide "WFUV - current faves"

I'll be trying to update this over the course of the year.

Plenty of good new tunes in this to kick the year off:
