Going in I was targeting Kittle at 1.12, so had to switch gears. Pick came down to Jones, Hill, Adams. Went with the RB. Feels like I have passed on RB’s in the past and not much success. Hated passing on Hill as I thought Mahomes would make it back to 2.05 and would have liked that stack. Doubled down at RB at 2.05 and chasing Ek’s numbers from last year. Four RB’s went after my first pick, so thought pickings would be slim next time I was up in third. I was wrong. Only six more went between my second and third picks. Wow. Been misreading things for a while now. If I would have known what meat was left on RB bone in the later rounds I maybe would have changed my whole draft. As mentioned, not sold on any WR at that point but am sold on Ek. Two RB’s on board that finished in top four last year, I can focus elsewhere for a while.
Cool with Sutton at 3.12 as my WR1. Diggs getting diva fever. There weren’t any other considerations here. At 4.05 I was tempted to add a third RB as I was a little surprised to see some solid guys still there. But seven TE’s were gone and a long time between picks. Couldn’t ignore what Higbee did last year, especially down the stretch. No WR’s were putting lead in my pencil, so locked down a TE in 2PPR.
As 5.12 approached, it looked like I was going to have to take another RB with what was sliding but they ended up going shortly before my pick. Needed another WR, chose Edelman as WR29 over the rest. WR7 finish last year and Brady will be back. At 6.05 the QB run is coming and Rodgers is still there.
Bass was right 7.12 would have been Hardman, so Brown was consolation prize and expect better numbers and a bigger role in year two. At 8.05 Marvin felt like pretty good value and a decent WR3/4. I probably should have taken him in front of Brown, but in best ball I like having a guy like Brown on the roster. If Jimmy G had made it here, he would have gotten a sniff. Mike Williams, Cam, and Brady did get a sniff.
At 9.12 I really felt the need to add a RB3 but Olsen was a target and part of the revised TE plan after not getting Kittle in the first. However, I never thought I would be able to get him at the end of the 9th. When I passed on him the last few rounds, I thought for sure somebody would snag him. Signed a $7 million deal with 5.5 guaranteed. Not being brought in to ride the bench for those numbers and Wilson loves the TE, especially in the red zone. Minor SOD here IMO. Zero surprise if he ends up top 10. Maybe would have taken DJ here had Bass not and Cohen should have been my pick, but couldn’t pass on Olsen. 10.05 probably my toughest pick. Renfrow, _________, Williams, and Watkins. Watching Sammy slide was so painful as a KC fan, but I get it. I am still 80% sure he takes a pretty massive pay cut/restructure somehow and stays. While his year was disappointing, I just think he “fits” in KC right now, and I think he knows it. But the 20% scared me off. Williams coming off a torn ACL, scared me too, even though he may be the real deal. ______ may have been a nice safe pick, but I went with Renfrow who seems to have more upside and less mileage. Two great games to end the season, many targets from Carr, and if Brady comes to town he could get peppered like Welker and Edelman. I like having a big play guy like Brown, but in PPR guys like Renfrow, etc. help you advance.
Pretty boring, zero sex appeal….
