The streak ends (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
Friday night, heading home from work I got pulled over by a cop. It’s been about a decade since I was last pulled over. And I haven’t had a ticket on my record since 1996.

He got me doing 42 in a 25. I was hoping my clean record would get me off with a warning, but no luck. He did knock it down to 30 in a 25 with no points. But I was super proud of that streak. Especially since I’m a speed demon with a lead foot. :(

Thanks a lot for the jinx.  I've got a 7 yr streak of my own and now I"m going to turtle it home out of fear

My kid is my baramoter of how long it has been.  I haven't had a speeding ticket since I was driving my Jeep Wrangler, which I had to trade in because the rear facing car seat didn't fit in the back.  He's now 18.

I just put on the new tabs for my truck last week, as I noticed they expired in December.  When I got the new stickers to put in the plates, I noticed the expired in December if 2018, not 2019.  I drove a whole year with expired plates and was never pulled over.  💪

I have had about 6 tickets in the last ten years.  Maybe pulled over a dozen other times.   Still far less than the number of suspensions here.

27 years driving and have never been pulled over.  It helps that I live in a town where its 25 everywhere.

I wouldn't even know what to do if it ever happened.  I'm supposed to get out of the car and run towards the cop, right?

Yes with your hands in your jacket pockets pointing your cell phone towards the cop.  They like that a lot....

You sound pretty white.

It’s been a while for me, but long ago accepted speeding tickets as part of the cost for operating a motor vehicle. I’ve probably had 20+ tickets over the years.

Hadn't been pulled over in quite a long time, probably about 14 years at the time.  Got pulled over entering one of those 25 miles areas too while on vacation in Ohio (I live in PA).  I think I was going over 40 also.  Had the whole family in the car.  Cop was nice, let me off with a warning and then told us places we might want to visit while we were in town.

Seems like Waze and a radar detector might be helpful.
Have a radar detector; no longer use it. No smart phone, but I wouldn’t use one while driving anyway.

It’s really not the end of the world to get a ticket. Probably spent a few grand on fines over the years, but the satisfaction I derive from speeding is worth it.

Haven't had a ticket from being pulled over ever. Been blitzed a few times and then gotten the ticket in the mail ( how it works over here) three or four times in over 30 years of driving

42 in a 25? You should be in prison, sir!
It's actually a weird area I drive home.  As I've said, I live so far in the sticks, Domino's doesn't even deliver to me.

So driving through farm country, I drive over a covered bridge and past the farm school.  Just nothing but corn fields as far as you can see on the rolling hills.  On the one side of the bridge, it's 25.  On the other side, it goes to 40, but only after about 300 yards that's still 25.  I came across the bridge and geared up to 5 over the limit.  But I guess I was still in the 25 zone.  When I told my wife where I was, she said the cops sit at that school all of the time to get people in that small stretch.

Cop was super nice.  Young kid.  I also have a thin blue line flag on my car.  That didn't help this time either.

One of the best parts of Texas was that if you got a speeding ticket, you could take a DD class and they would remove the ticket from your record.

I believe they did it because it was something like 80% of the ticket goes to federal.  But if they send you to a class, they don't have to give any of that money to federal.  At least that was the story I was told.  Could be an urban legend.  But regardless, I think I had 4 tickets in Texas and none of them are on my record.

Was pulled over a couple months ago for "rolling a stop sign"   I was turning right and almost came to a complete stop and with no traffic at all proceeded with my turn a maybe 2-3 MPH.

Police car was sitting down the block  and zoomed up on me.   Asked for everything and then said hang on a second.   I think he is letting me go if I don`t have any outstanding warrants or unpaid tickets which I don`t.    Walks up and says "I am giving you an impeding traffic ticket instead of a stop sign.  It is zero points..have a nice day "   I am happy thinking this is what maybe 30-40 dollars.     I looked on the back on the ticket and it is $180.00 dollars.

So to me tickets have very little to do with actually making the roads safer, it is all about the $$$$$$

It's both.  Tickets are meant to penalize and pull in money to help pay for things.

The streak has started again.

If your record is mostly clean in Texas you can request deferred adjudication. You plead guilty or no contest and are placed on probation, say 90 days. Then the ticket is removed from your record. The DD course can only be used once every 12 months and you can’t double dip to use it for insurance savings. The DD cannot be used if 25 mph over the speed limit and some other things like illegal passing of school bus.

Yeah, I think you could only do it once a year.  So when you got a ticket, it meant that for the next 365 days, you had to be very careful driving.

I’ve honestly never understood speeding in a suburban or city environment. You’re not getting anywhere any faster likely due to traffic and stoplights and it’s more dangerous speeding in areas with more people pulling in and out of the roadway and more pedestrians.

I’m a big proponent of speeding on freeways and interstates in longer drives because you can actually save a lot of time but consistently speeding in town is actually a sign in my opinion of a lack of maturity and respect for others.

I've gotten out of a couple of tickets by going to court on the date of the ticket and asking the judge for it to be dismissed because 'there is no punishment you could give me that would surpass the hell my wife has given me since I've gotten the ticket'. Both times the judge laughed and dismissed it.

Agree.  In areas where there are a lot of homes or possibly people on the streets, I'm usually a 5 over the limit guy.

Because there are no points, I figured I'd just pay it.  I was speeding.  It's not like I wasn't breaking the law.

Last ticket I received was at 8am in the carpool lane of the 405 going 75 in a mini van on our way to Sea World.   Cars were zooming past me in the other lanes probably with an average speed of 80mph.  I was pissed about that ticket.  The cop was not friendly.  I could not believe he pulled me over.  It made zero sense.

If I'm driving without other traffic around, I drive the speed limit.  When others are around, I just keep the pace with traffic, and I normally notice traffic is going faster than the posted speed limit.  This probably greatly depends on the size of suburban or metropolitan area we are talking about.

But in MN everybody drives the same ####### speed. It’s kind of infuriating on the freeways...

They finally passed a law last year that you could be ticketed for being in the left lane and not passing the traffic in the right lane.  I was optimistic that it would open up the left lane, but it appears to have had zero effect on left lane slow pokes.

I would have fought that ticket.  No way you can lose really (aside from opportunity cost, obviously)

I've only been pulled over once in my life. 2 years ago I bought a new car that didn't have its plates yet. I was driving home from a meeting in San Diego and following Google maps which took me on a toll road. Highway patrol pulled me over to check if I had an Express Lane transponder; I didn't. I didn't even know I was on a toll road, I was just following my app. The cop let me off with a $20 fine and I had to go to my local CHP office to show I got my plates.
Lesson learned: turn on "Avoid toll roads" on google map.

one pile of crap car i used to own i got pulled over for going to far under the speed limit in a 25 the transmission had gone to hell and it could creep along and i was using it to get to work and back until i could scrounge up enough for another beater but the cop told me he could walk faster so i should quit driving and just walk to work and frankly the sad thing is he was probably right from a cost of gas standpoint take that to the bank bromigos

One only?  Crazy, I was pulled over a dozen time before I was through college.

The most memorable was when I was with a bunch of friends driving back home from the casino in the middle of the night.  I was in my dad's '84 Cellica.  Man was that thing fun to drive.  I was doing 90 easy in a 60 when I noticed headlights in my rear view mirror gaining on me pretty quick.  Based on my own speed, I instantly figured this had to be a cop, so I let off the gas and coasted to a lower speed.  Before I got back down to 60, he lit his lights up and pulled me over. I was panicked, assuming all sorts of things (impounding the car, losing my license, dad killing me).  He walks up and tells me he paced me doing 72. I apologized and was never so happy to get a ticket for 12 over the limit in my life.

I was going to but he wrote on the ticket I ran a stop sign and he wrote me for a no point offense.  My buddy who was a cop said a judge would not dismiss it.

In college, I worked at a golf course outside of the Nati.  I was on the grounds crew and had to be there at like 4am every weekday morning.  At 20 years old, I would sometimes sleep through my alarm.  We had to punch into a clock and one morning I woke up late and flew off to work.  It was all straight back roads and no one was on them at that time of day.  I flew past a cop doing about 60 in a 30mph.  He whipped around on me and pulled me over.  I was sure I was going to jail.  He came up to my window and asked where I was heading.  I apologized and said I was late for work at the golf course.  He said, "I know that course.  Nice course."  Then took my license and went back to his car.  After about 2 minutes, he came back and said, "Slow it down and if they ask why you're late, tell them I had you stopped for about 20 minutes because I had trouble running your plates."  I was like, "O...K...", thinking it was a trap, but drove away.  I was utterly nonplussed.

When I got to the course, I told my boss and he dismissed my absence.  I later found out that one of the old man Rangers that worked at the course, his son was the Chief and the golf course owner let them play for free whenever they wanted.  Thank Allah cops like playing golf.

Not sure how the judge would even see the ticket, you get a "courtesy violation notice" in the mail you could show them when you go before them.  He gave you a ticket for an infraction you didn't commit.  He wasn't doing you a favor.  Doesn't sound like your "buddy" has your back at all.

You can be given an impeding traffic ticket for blowing a stop sign.  Again, the officer did a favor.  This ticket carries no points and won't bump up your insurance.  I'm not sure why you're upset that the guy gave you a break.  Running the stop sign would most likely have been more, given you points, and raised your insurance.

If you say so.  In my state all it talks about is minimum speed levels under impeding traffic.  But in no way did that officer do him a favor for writing him a ticket for rolling a stop, d-move.
