Trump today says they are mobilizing to "turn the tide in the battle against the virus," omitting the "Chinese" for now.

Trump: "I want Americans to know that we will get through this challenge. The hardship will end, it will end soon. Normal life will return. And our economy will rebound very, very strongly. But right now...Americans must remain united in purpose and focused on victory."

Trump says the focus right now is saving lives. He calls for protecting the Asian American community. Echoing his tweet, he says the spreading of the virus isn't their fault. And he adds, "They're working closely with us to get rid of it." (A notable "they" and "us" here.)

Trump: "We will be using data to recommend new protocols to allow local economies to cautiously resume their activity at the appropriate time." He says they'll await "the OK" from "the medical community," then adds, "Our country wasn't built to be shut down."

Trump says he signed an executive order to prohibit "the hoarding of vital medical equipment and supplies," including hand sanitizer and masks.

Trump says certain supplies will be designated as "scarce," and so it will be "a crime" to stockpile them in excessive quantities, "which is happening to a relatively small degree."

hoarding & price gouging seem like good things for your local mayor or possibly state AG to focus on

telling business to make masks, gloves & ventilators would be something the POTUS could focus on

Since Trump is so concerned about how the stock market is right now,  someone needs to research the activity on days that Fauci is there and days he isn't

AG Barr:

"If you are sitting on a warehouse of masks, surgical masks, you will be hearing a knock on your door."

but "If you have a big supply of toilet paper in your house," you don't have to worry about this hoarding order"

Mike Pence:

313,000 tests have been completed; "somewhat more than 41,000" people have tested positive for the virus.

What Dr. Birx said about laboratories prioritizing hospitalized patients for processing test results is important in interpreting the data. Those tests are likely to show higher rates of positives than tests conducted among non-hospitalized patients.

So instead of ensuring law enforcement can adequately enforce laws, they're apparently going to be doing a literal roll call, and confiscate the stuff from people who have too much? Who decides how much is too much? Isn't there a Constitutional amendment against that sort of thing? Granted, I bet Trump doesn't care, but still.

Asked about there being more than 100 coronavirus deaths today and Surgeon General Adams saying it's going to get really bad, and whether he shares that prognosis, Trump says, "Of course I do." He said, "We're trying to make it so that it's much, much less bad."

Trump says "the numbers are pretty amazing," in a good way, for the US, given how many people the US has compared to other countries. (Other countries are at different time points on the curve.)

Trump to a question about the rising death toll: "It's bad, and obviously the numbers are going to increase with time, and they're going to start to decrease, and we're going to be opening our country up for business, because our country was meant to be open."

Asked how to reconcile the two things he just said -- it's going to get worse, and our country should be open for business -- and what he'd say if he got medical advice to continue these measures, Trump says, "We'll see what happens...we can do two things at one time."
