Dynasty & Redraft: RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Bucs

And McCoy

He got dropped in my dynasty league lol

People were taking him in the first round of rookie drafts

I think we’re all guilty of getting overexcited about any rookie RB that gets drafted by a team with a seeming need at the position. In many cases, these guys get an opportunity, but probably more commonly they just stay as career backups unless the guys ahead of them falter badly or get hurt.

With Vaughn, it’s too early to tell, but early returns do not seem good for his long-term outlook.

Signs of life. Jones had a really bad drop when RZ switched to their game. Announcers said that was at least his 3rd drop already on the day and it was the 2nd quarter. Good to see Vaughn pop his cherry a little bit.

Vaughn also had a drop near the GL that had Brady scowling.

Ke'Shawn Vaughn rushed 3 times for 4 yards and caught 2-of-3 targets for 22 yards and a score in the Bucs' Week 4 win over the Chargers.

Vaughn had been a healthy scratch after a poor training camp, but he was called up with Leonard Fournette (ankle) sidelined. Vaughn didn't play much until LeSean McCoy (ankle) and Kenjon Barner (concussion) left the game. It's easy to tell that Tom Brady and the coaching staff don't trust Vaughn at this point, but injuries could make him worth a deep-league bench spot. Ronald Jones figures to draw another start in Week 4 with the Bucs playing on Thursday night.

Buccaneers' Ke'Shawn Vaughn: Succeeds with rare opportunity

Quote

Vaughn rushed 15 times for 62 yards and secured one of two targets for seven yards in the Buccaneers' 47-7 win over the Lions on Saturday.

The rookie turned a career-high number of carries into a new personal best in rushing yardage, with the combination of the absence of Ronald Jones (finger/reserve/COVID-19) and a blowout win affording him an unprecedented amount of opportunity. Vaughn often looked quick and decisive with the ball in his hand. although the caliber and motivation level of the competition does have to be taken into account. Nevertheless, with the Buccaneers now having sewn up a playoff spot, Vaughn could be in for another solid workload in a Week 17 finale versus the Falcons.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians said he expects Ke'Shawn Vaughn to have a "breakout year" in 2021.

Color us extremely skeptical. Tampa brought back Leonard Fournette on a one-year deal, presumably to share backfield duties with Ronald Jones. Fournette and Jones combined to play nearly 80 percent of the team's offensive snaps last year, leaving little room for Vaughn to emerge as a fantasy option. “Those guys are all here and know what the system is and the best players are going to play," Arians said of the team's backfield. "Obviously we have two really, really good ones at that position and I really like Ke’Shawn Vaughn. I think that with an offseason he’s going to have a breakout year also. All of those roles will be defined by the time that we get to the last week of the preseason.” Vaughn -- who rushed 26 times for 109 yards and caught five of ten targets in his rookie season -- will only see playing time if Jones or Fournette miss time. He would only be a fantasy option if Jones and Fournette struggled with injuries in 2021.

Bucs coach Bruce Arians said he hopes RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn will "make a better decision tomorrow" after Vaughn was absent from practice on Tuesday.

The current practices being held are voluntary OTAs and Vaughn chose to workout away from the team. This seems reasonable but Arians' passive-aggressive tone says otherwise. Vaughn was a healthy scratch at multiple points in his rookie season and finished the year with 26 carries for 109 yards. Getting on his coach's bad side is not the best way for Vaughn to bounce back in his second season. With Giovani Bernard joining the team as a free agent, Vaughn may not even be guaranteed a roster spot this year. Without a defined role in the Tampa Bay offense, he is nothing more than a dynasty stash for fantasy purposes.

Bucs RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn is expected to see most of his snaps on special teams.

"Ke'Shawn's made a nice move, but he has to be a better special teams player right now because of what's in front of him," coach Bruce Arians said. It's the second time this offseason Arians has called out Vaughn, who skipped voluntary OTAs. Vaughn was buried on the depth chart as a rookie, getting healthy scratched in five games, and got further pushed down after Tampa signed passing back Giovani Bernard. The Bucs may look to shop Vaughn for a Day 3 pick this preseason.
