***OFFICIAL 2020 NFL Draft Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Faust

MVP
NFL Draft week is finally here.

I can’t wait to have Roger Goodell open the draft with the following statement “With the first pick in the 2020 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select quarterback Joe Burrow, LSU.”

It will be different watching the picks being announced from Roger Goodell's basement versus at the podium in Las Vegas - but this is the new reality under COVID-19, and I am happy to have the distraction of the NFL draft for a few days.

On Monday to Thursday this week leading up to the draft please feel free to discuss rumors and information that is out there. Once the draft is underway we can discuss the picks and trades as they unfold before us.

All the best wishes to everyone who is a part of the FBG community during these difficult times.

Stay healthy and safe everyone.

Sincerely,

Faust

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the Falcons are expected to be the most aggressive team in the draft.

Mort added that they could even try to move into the top-five. This is consistent with a report from NBC Sports' Peter King, which stated the, "worst-kept secret in draft rooms around the league: GM Thomas Dimitroff wants to trade up for one of the two top corners in the draft, Jeff Okudah or C.J. Henderson." Look for the Falcons to be active come draft night.

The Falcons graded out poorly in DVOA against No. 1 WRs (18th), No. 2 WRs (30th) and Other WRs (28th) in 2019. Long-time No. 1 CB Desmond Trufant is now a member of the Lions. It'd be borderline shocking if the Falcons don't devote an early-round pick to the back half of their defense, regardless of whether or not they ultimately choose to trade up.

NBC Sports' Peter King reports the Browns have been actively trying to trade down.

The Browns are currently slotted to pick at No. 10. Trading down for more picks is usually the wise move, but hopefully the Browns don't go too much longer without finding a true stud LT for Baker Mayfield. There's plenty of talent to go around at RB, WR and TE, this offensive line just needs to put it all together. New RT Jack Conklin is a great first step, but it'd still behoove the Browns to use a high-round pick to find Mayfield a solid blindside protector.

NBC Sports' Peter King reports "not sure if the Jags will do it, but I hear they’ve been talking about trading up—and I assume it’s for one of the two corners at the top of the CB market."

The two corners that King is referencing are Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah and Florida CB C.J. Henderson. Obviously the Jaguars need more help than ever at the CB position after shipping Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye to the Rams and Broncos, respectively. Alas, it remains to be seen if the Jaguars will be willing to part with another high-round pick in order to get their man.

NBC Sports' Peter King reports "the Giants, by the way, would trade down for a good offer; Dave Gettleman has said no to draft trades for so long, but this year those in the top 10 tell me he’d definitely do it."

King added that he doesn't believe there's a great demand for teams to move up to the No. 4 spot. Recent reports have speculated that Giants GM Dave Gettleman could trade back for the first time in his career, but the rumors should obviously be taken with a grain of salt. It remains to be seen what the Giants believe constitutes a "good offer", as obviously a boat load of picks is capable of changing the mind of pretty much any team.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the 49ers are "fielding calls on both their first-round picks, No. 13 and No. 31 overall, and are open to dealing either or both picks.

Of course, it remains to be seen if San Francisco will actually pull the trigger on a trade. Schefter added the 49ers don't have second-, third- and fourth-round picks, so they "want more picks." It's unclear what position the 49ers could be zeroing in on.

Holy #### what a reach!

Just virtually mocking my outrage and indignation on Thursday(assuming goodell can figure out his router in time for the draft so this whole things goes off without a single hitch).

What a joke. Not even the worst GM ever would buy this BS.
Yep lol.... seems like a very obvious desperate attempt to get someone to trade up with them.  Maybe they're dreaming that they can scare teams to jump them and that the QB's go 1-2-3 so they can have Young.  Either way, pure BS.

With no March Madness this year it has been a long 6 week wait for something, anything.  Finally here.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Redskins have begun receiving calls from teams interested in trading up for the No. 2 overall pick.

Perhaps Monday's smoke screen that the Giants were interested in Oregon QB Justin Herbert lit a fire under the rest of the league. Washington reportedly isn't intent on moving out of the pick, likely being content with selecting Ohio State DE Chase Young, but anything is possible for the right offer. General managers have just over 48 hours to persuade the organization otherwise.

Teams must LOVE Simmons for all this chatter about him being overrated and having no defined position.

He's at least a better Telvin Smith. More likely a latter day Brian Urlacher.

An anonymous NFL executive in personnel told the Athletic's Bob McGinn that Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons is "the most overrated player in the draft."

NFL coaches and general managers prefer certitude, and that's nearly impossible to come by as it pertains to Simmons' role. In a poll of 16 executives asking what they thought his best position would be in the NFL, 10 replied weak-side linebacker, three said nickel linebacker, one said outside linebacker and two said safety. “If you put this guy at sam linebacker only, he’s going to struggle,” said an AFC executive. “If you put him at free safety only, he’s going to struggle. You’ve got to be creative." A two-year starting hybrid specialist who earned the 2019 **** Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker, Simmons played snaps at linebacker, safety, and nickel corner in college, allowing merely 5.6 yards per target given his elite sideline-to-sideline coverage skills. It would be wise for front offices to avoid pigeonholing him into any type of role, instead allowing him to roam free and naturally create plays at the next level.

I think there are some words missing there. It should read like this:

"An anonymous NFL executive in personnel, whose team is drafting in the 5-10 range, told the Athletic's Bob McGinn..."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports no team is known to have failed South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw on a physical.

Kinlaw (6'5/324), a consensus first-round prospect who previously had a labrum repaired in one of his hips and two past knee injuries that multiple teams flagged as at risk of arthritis, reportedly had his combine MRIs chalked up to everyday "wear and tear." Several teams have no issue with the 22-year-old's medical, keeping him in the discussion as a top-20 pick on Thursday. The Cardinals, Jaguars, Raiders, Falcons, and Cowboys all make sense as potential landing spots in the mid-first round.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Utah CB Jaylon Johnson (shoulder) is "ahead of schedule."

Johnson underwent a Latarjet procedure — used to prevent repeated dislocations that can cause instability and prevent further damage — on his right shoulder March 4 and is expected to make a full recovery "without any restrictions or limitations" by early August. Multiple shoulder injuries (Johnson previously had surgery on his opposite shoulder in 2016) tend to raise a red flag, but the physical corner is still reportedly a hot candidate that could land with the Raiders, Jaguars, Cowboys, or Vikings on Day 1. This timeline puts him on track to return for any possible camp activities.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Falcons "continue to be the team to watch" for a trade up.

The Falcons are currently sitting at No. 16. Per Rapsheet, they have spoken with teams "well into the top 10 and appear ready to make a huge leap." GM Thomas Dimitroff famously traded up for Julio Jones in 2011, so we know he is willing to be aggressive if he thinks he is only a player or two away from dramatically improving his roster. Rapoport mentions Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah and Florida CB C.J. Henderson as two potential targets.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport considers Georgia OT Andrew Thomas the player "most overlooked publicly who goes highest" in the draft.

That is not really the case anymore, as Thomas has been connected both to the Dolphins at No. 5 and Chargers at No. 6. Rapoport's colleague Tom Pelissero reported four days ago that Thomas should come off the board in the first 10 picks. That is looking more likely than ever.

At first I thought teams wouldn't be able to max-out his potential but now I'm completely sold on the guy.  I really like him.
