Adam Trautman TE Broncos (1 Viewer)

Rostered in my 24 x 12 team dynasty, but a guy I would try to create space for if the current owner gets impatient.   Let's say that happens and I want to invest in a developmental tight end in the early 3rd round of a rookie / free agent draft.  How do people value the following?

Trautman

Freiermuth

Brevin Jordan

Harrison Bryant

The year of  development in the bank is definitely a plus for Trautman and Bryant.    Or does the #2 and #3 of the 2021 class have too much upside to pass up?
1 - Freiermuth (believe it or not, but some actually had him as the TE #1 at one point)

2 - Jordan (really a toss up between Jordan and Trautman for #2 because it may take Jordan awhile to see the field.

3 - Trautman (opportunity is there and I like him as the best TE from the 2020 class, but in my mind he would be 4th if he was in this year's class)

4 - Bryant - (talent is there, but not as good as Trautman and the top 3 from 2021.  Plus  there is that Austin Hooper thing and he is only 26.)

He's intriguing and worth an end-of-draft flyer, especially if you took Kelce/Waller/Kittle/Andrews etc. He's becoming a popular sleeper pick and I do think there's upside but I personally prefer Kmet and Alie-Cox, who are both going quite a bit later.

Saints TE Adam Trautman didn't record a target in the Saints' 17-14 preseason loss to the Ravens.

Beyond the lack of targets from Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston, Trautman's usage on New Orleans pass plays was iffy. He ran a route on six of the first team offense's 13 pass plays -- a far lower number then one would expect for a team's primary pass-catching tight end. The Saints value Trautman as a run and pass blocker, which should mean plenty of snaps for the second-year tight end, but perhaps limited route running. Trautman, in such a scenario, would have a firmly capped fantasy ceiling in 2021. Beat writers expect Trautman to have a vastly expanded role a year after he caught 15 of his 16 targets. He's still worth a late-round pick in fantasy leagues.

It's one preseason game. Trautman is not going to be Travis Kelce, but this wasn't the game on which Trautman's 2021 success will be determined.

Sounds like it was a minor injury & he dodged a bullet.

I’m still not convinced he’ll be targeted enough to be a top FF TE, but at least he’s healthy.

“NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reports Adam Trautman (leg) has avoided serious injury.

Per Underhill, Trautman is "going to see a specialist to get an exact timeline, but initial belief is that it is a minor injury." It's a huge sigh of relief after Trautman was carted against the Jaguars on Monday. Now fantasy managers can focus on their initial Monday evening concern: Trautman's elevated usage as a blocker. It is also worth noting that even a minor injury has Trautman in danger of missing Week 1 with the opener less than three weeks ago. Trautman is a high variance TE2 here at the height of re-draft season.”

Juwan Johnson has had a good preseason and used to be a WR, so he can definitely run routes.
Still listed as WR only in Yahoo (not sure about other leagues). He's like the Bizarro Rookie Colston.

I'm sure if he wins the starting job Yahoo will adjust.

Still think this position group is totally undraftable. Maybe you clock Johnson and target him on the WW after a week or two.

I got Trautman with the last pick in my rookie draft since he was a FA, planning to drop him as soon as free agency opens because his teammates Callaway and Jones Jr are available.

Surprised to see the negativity in here...
I just read “no more than 3 weeks” for Trautman.

the red flag is that Juwan Johnson seems to be outplaying him.

this writer suggests Johnson could Wally Pip Trautman.

Saints just tried to claim a TE off waivers & failed, and Johnson is healthy.

I’m making a claim on Johnson - not sure how much $ to bid of my $500 yet, but I don’t get how they can put a 3 week timeframe on something while also sending Trautman to a foot specialist. Something wonky about that. Juwan feels like a smart gamble right now.

Sorry I've had a gummy or two and got this twisted.  Yes, I'm on the JJ train.

Adam Trautman caught 3-of-6 targets for 18 yards in the Saints' Week 1 win against the Packers.

Trautman didn't play particularly well, miscommunicating with Jameis Winston a couple times in the first half. It was TE Juwan Johnson who cashed in with two touchdowns on three targets from Winston. Still, Trautman's 30 percent target share against Green Bay will be hard to dismiss ahead of New Orleans' Week 2 matchup against Carolina.

Trautman also dropped two right-in-the-hands catches in the second half. I think Trautman will clean it up and show better in the future, but he's left the door open to get leapfrogged by Juwan Johnson.

I think it’s already happened, but then, I said that a month ago.

Adam Trautman was held without a catch in Week 3 against the Patriots.

It's another catchless game for Trautman, who wasn't targeted last week. Trautman has been a non-factor on offense since his six targets in the Saints' opener. The second-year tight end doesn't have much redraft value but remains a Dynasty hold.
