Or the lineup submission deadline passing.

I’ve compromised, and I’m back to 25. I had to sacrifice a defense to get where I need to be but I think I’m done.

...... until the next three revisions.

How about one of the 2 D’s vs one of the 5 D’s each week?

Coming from a guy that spent $8 on three.

I spent $9 on 4

I still want my 5th, but I’ve started a subscriber contest lineup tweaking addiction recovery group & my sponsor forbids it.

continuing on with my fight against expensive D's...

2018 - The Jaguars were $10.  If you had used that $10 to purchase multiple D's, the number of options for $10 and below is a staggering 1054.  The reason for the big jump from 2019 is there were D's offered for $2, increasing the combos significantly.  Again, every single one of the 1054 combos scored higher than the Jaguars, who ended up scoring 81 points (coincidentally, again tied for 24th place).  Just soak that in for a moment - any combo, even only 2 D's for $2 each ($4), would still have outscored JAX.

In 2018, the second most expensive D was once again the Rams, but this year the Eagles were also $8.  The Rams did their job and scored 114 (4th overall), but the Eagles weren't so lucky at 71 points (30th).  Still, even with a 4th place finish by the Rams, the 4 D's for $2 would've cost you same, and scored 45 more points.  Four D's were offered for $7, but alas, none can compete with 3 D's for $2 each.

And for those keeping track of the highest priced D, in the last 2 years, the score is now 1337 to 0 in favor of multiple cheaper D's.

But this year the most expensive D is only $7. Does that change your perspective? I agree though it seems like a $3 + $4 is superior to a $7 after breaking it down.

Seems like relative to other positions it’s adjusted though. The less I have to spend on defenses the more I can spend elsewhere. But I’d want at least 4, so $8 is the minimum, and if I find myself with $1 left at the end I’ll throw it l at upgrading one of them slightly. If not, I’d rather spend $8 than $9.

Using this year's numbers...
$7 - your choices are 7 or 5/2 or 4/3 or 3/2/2 - in this case I am choosing 3/2/2
$6 - your choices are 6 or 4/3 or 3/3 or 2/2/2 - in this case I am choosing 2/2/2

My first real attempt, without regard to bye week conflicts

QB - Deshaun Watson - HOU/8 - $18
QB - Kirk Cousins - MIN/7 - $8
DJ & Duke are both pass catching specialists in the backfield.  HOU's offense will revolve around Watson's arm and legs.  I opted for Cousins as my QB2 because I thought he was the best value in his range.

RB - Clyde Edwards-Helaire - KC/10 - $27
RB - Josh Jacobs - LV/6 - $26
RB - Tarik Cohen - CHI/11 - $14
RB - Zack Moss - BUF/11 - $10
RB - Antonio Gibson - WAS/8 - $9
RB - Frank Gore - NYJ/11 - $3
As I said, I wasn't looking at bye weeks when I made this team.

WR - Adam Thielen - MIN/7 - $21
WR - Calvin Ridley - ATL/10 - $21
WR - Keenan Allen - LAC/10 - $18
WR - Preston Williams - MIA/11 - $12
WR - Larry Fitzgerald - ARI/8 - $7
WR - Adam Humphries - TEN/7 - $4
WR - Marquez Valdes-Scantling - GB/5 - $3
WR - Bryan Edwards - LV/6 - $3
Just a handful of guys I think will outperform their ADP.  I think I stand alone with Keenan.

TE - Mike Gesicki - MIA/11 - $12
TE - Dallas Goedert - PHI/9 - $11
TE - Chris Herndon - NYJ/11 - $7
TE - Jordan Akins - HOU/8 - $3
I had Kittle, but decided to diversify.

PK - Chris Boswell - PIT/8 - $3
PK - Stephen Gostkowski - TEN/7 - $2
PK - Sam Sloman - LAR/9 - $2
Fingers crossed that they all keep their jobs.

TD - New York Giants - NYG/11 - $2
TD - Arizona Cardinals - ARI/8 - $2
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $2
Three cheapies with nice matchups during the finals.

We differ at QB, CEH, and >$15 WR... lots of overlap in other places.  One iteration of my lineup has 5 RBs, with 4 of them rookies... but I always look at bye weeks when making even my draft rosters, so certain guys get ruled out on that basis.  I've probably made about a dozen lineups (but tried to take a long break from a week or two ago until now) and there are certain >$20 who keep seeming to make good sense... so I'm zeroing in on it.  For RB it seems I'm pretty locked in on Jacobs and Gibson. A Jones is tempting with that week 5 bye... concerns about regression and/or AJ Dillon. Looking at rookies J Taylor, JK Dobbins, and Z Moss as well... Moss seems worth it at his price, Dobbins upside is massive if they favor him over Ingram at some point this season. J Taylor hadn't really been on my radar until recently, but been seeing more reports that he may end up taking the lion's share rather than splitting evenly with Mack. Trying not to think about it too much for another 24 hours as some of the guys who were cut or FAs (AP, Freeman, etc.) get signed and potentially affect projections for other players.

One other one I've been going back/forth on is Gesicki/Goedert ($23) vs. Higbee/Herndon ($22) combo at TE.  All have been hyped as potentially outperforming their price point. My concern with Gesicki is Preston Williams (who I'm rostering)... Gesicki's best games and target share were when Preston was out. Goedert could be ceiling-limited by Ertz... though Reagor's injury maybe gives him an early season boost. Been burned by Herdon before but the potential is there. Higbee seems the safest bet of this group.

Similar price, both combos yield a week 9/11 bye... but in the current roster I'm looking at has $2 available and that extra $1 allows me to pick up one more $3 flier (Akins or Brate at TE4, MVS as WR8, Gore or Thompson as RB6).

If I stick with Gesicki/Goedert (my original plan) then instead I probably upgrade Hopkins->Boswell at K and then upgrade one of my $2 Team Ds to a $3 Team Ds. That seems better than adding a 4th option at D or K.

Why do people think they need three DTs?  Defenses generally don't score a lot of points and the differential isn't that great so why do anymore than necessary?

Also, if you have bye week conflicts which weeks are you absolutely trying to avoid?

Best ball is like that.

Last year I went in thinking the same. And it hurt me. D/ST scoring is so random. Gimme 5 crap $2 defenses over 2 good $5 defenses any day. Your odds of getting a DTD increase with every defense on your roster.

Want, not need.  See prior page of thread for analysis.  Also they're only $2.  But adding 2 ppw is adding 2 ppw, plenty of times in the past I've been that much above/below the cutline.  Just an opportunity cost question.  I'm on the fence between 2 or 3 this year.

I see it as “need” not want.

i’d much rather spend my $2 on another position.

But it’s a best ball format. The evidence is there to support having 3-4-5 bad defenses over 2 elite defenses.

Good defenses get blowed out by good offenses sometimes. Bad defenses get gold bounces sometimes. Any given Sunday, and all that.

These teams basically play each other during the finals except week 13. Their other matchups are tough. But the week 12 and week 14 games against each other could end up being a good strategy. You may as well throw in the $2 Dolphins for good measure.

Week 12 Giants @ Bengals

Week 13 Bengals @ Dolphins

Week 14 Cards @ Giants

I wound up with time on my hands as my wife made some errands today after I had completed all the yard work and what else should I do, but revisit one more time. I decided to upgrade the quarterback position and of course that led to some bye week conflicts. To reduce those, I needed to shift some wide receivers and there are just so many in the mid-range, cost between $15 and $12, that I dropped my outlier high cost Wide Receiver and added depth.

QB - three at a total cost of $31, have upgraded to two higher priced options from my original cheap cheap selections. All between $9 and $11 now.

RB - six at a total cost of $81 with my only rostered player with cost over $17 here at RB.

WR - seven at a total cost of $89 - added a little more depth, by dropping my higher priced option

TE - three at a total cost of $37

PK - three at a total cost of $7

DST - three at a total cost of $9

I still don't have as a large roster, but I have shifted up to 25 players and still consider that a more "all-in" approach This is definitely going to be an interesting season and a very interesting version of this contest.

Only three days till the season opener, looking forward to the games

Higbee/Herndon gets my vote. I got burned by Herndon too but somehow find myself going back for seconds. Opportunity is promising and the magic chemistry is back. Cool that you see Higbee as a safe choice. Everett coming back scared me off.  May be wrong, but I got the impression Everett was the better athlete and may be a threat. Am I missing out thinking Higbee is priced closer to his ceiling and Everett at his floor?

Would like your thought on PHI situation too. I’m speculating offensive line could struggle due to injuries forcing one of the TE to stay in more for pass protection.  Assume for a minute this does happen...Do you have a sense of which TE is better at blocking vs who might benefit from more check down passes?

My final layout is a mix of upside & stud, with elite/stud players at 2 positions, semi-elite at 1 and Mid-level at others. Took the “more is more” approach to defense, and have 3 K as well. As was mentioned, while I could have spent that $3 elsewhere, it’s just too unpredictable week to week, and 2 points is often the difference between advancing & not. Last year I got knocked out in a week one of my 2 K’s only scored 4, so by having a 3rd kicker maybe one of the 3 performs enough to keep my entry alive.

final breakdown, since that’s what the popular Kids are doing.
QB: 3 for $33

RB: 6 for $83

WR: 6 for $78

TE: 3 for $39

D/ST: 4 for $8

K: 3 for $9

25 for $250

done.

Lots of similarities to my team here. Thielen and  Ridley are not in my team but they should be bargains.

I hope not, unless you're aiming to get knocked out in week 11 since most of the RBs are on the BYE.  If either Jacobs or CEH gets dinged up by then, that's a tough week to survive.

BYEs are among the most frustrating aspect of this contest.  Get together what you feel like is a good roster & then :sadbanana:

Very good bye week distribution until we get to the TE. Very week 11 centric at the bottom. WR group is a strength.

Alright, I'm done!  Cut me off!

QB - Deshaun Watson - HOU/8 - $18
QB - Matthew Stafford - DET/5 - $14

obviously I like these two QBs since I also have them.

but man - just 2? I made the mistake of 2 TE last year. One got hurt. BYE week wasn’t pretty.
