Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (3 Viewers)

This song was written by Jimmy Buffett and Jerry Jeff Walker in 1973. They each have recorded it, and many others have covered it. I'll take JJW's version since I drafted Jimmy earlier.

Round 184

Railroad Lady - Jerry Jeff Walker  (Margaritaville)

She's a railroad lady
Just a little bit shady
Spending her days on a train
She's a semi good looker
But the fast rails they took her
Now she's trying just trying
To get home again

simey, how is Cole?
Not good. I called the vet's office Monday morning, and told a staffer what was going on with Cole, and that he was going downhill. I told her to please give the message to Dr. J, and have her get back to me. She said she would give her the message, and either the Dr would call me that day or someone else would. Nobody called. I was not happy. I called yesterday morning, and told a different staffer that I didn't hear from the Dr or anyone else. She said they have been having computer problems, and that she didn't see my message in the computer (which is how they send the messages to the Dr) so the Dr never saw the message. She told me to bring in Cole, and the Dr will see him. The Dr gave me an antibiotic to give him incase he has a sinus infection since he is blowing through his nose some, and she gave me a liquid supplement (Virbac Rebound) to shoot in his mouth 5 times a day to try to stimulate his appetite and to nourish him. She said someone would call Thursday to check on him, and if he hasn't improved some they need to explore more via radiographs, GI panel, and abdominal ultrasound.

I told her the only thing he will eat are his treats and that is not always, but I did get some food by the same maker of his treats that is duck, and today he ate a small amount. I know you are supposed to mix it in slowly with their old food, but I don't have that luxury right now when I am trying to get him to eat anything. His freeze dried treats are very similar to this dinner food. Anyway, he ate a little this morning, and tonight he ate some too, and he ate a little bit of his old food. It is more than yesterday. I'm going to give him his liquid supplement a couple more times tonight. Tomorrow will be day three of his antibiotic, and I have no idea what time they are calling. I asked the vet if can he be improved in that short of time by the antibiotic, and she said he could show improvement if it is working. If he doesn't feel better this exploration is going to cost a lot of money, but I have to try to help him.

I'm glad to hear he's eating a little today.  Your vet experience sounds awful.  I know they must normally be good if you're using them, so hopefully just a temporary glitch in service.

Normally they are good, but they better fix their computer problems fast, because people have sick animals, and it is imperative that messages are relayed to the doctors.

184.8 or 12 - Jesse Winchester - Nothing But a Breeze (Margaritaville)

Winchester is a singer/songwriter who started his career while living in Canada as a draft evader.  This was the title track of the album he released after amnesty was granted and he could return to the US to perform.

He and Jimmy Buffett were good friends.  Buffett covered several of Winchester's songs including this one.

Patience by GNR basically copied this. So did almost every Goo Goo Dolls song.
When did the Goo Goo Dolls at Christmas become a thing? Does anybody know? Nobody put the bug in my bah humbug quite like they did this past holiday season. That's your friendly curmudgeon, just checking in for the night.

XMU Rocks!!! (21st century Alt/Indie but not too quiet/twangy for KP)

Second Wave (90s Alternative)

Now's a good time to determine the future of our Country.  The current Prime Country channel covers the 80s & 90s.  We've never had a category for 21st Century Country.

Either we add a dedicated channel for Country 2000-present or we expand Prime Country to cover four decades.  My vote is for the former.  Modern Pop Country is pretty dire but I think there's been a lot of good Americana and Alt-Country in the past twenty years.

I am confused as to why Nirvana is our cutoff for the early punk.
It’s really more 1990 as the cutoff to create a classic punk category. If I had to guess why Nirvana was the token original cutoff it would be that grunge kind of melded hard rock/metal with punk and took it mainstream.

Round 185.xx

Category: The Noble Eightfold Path/PunKrock

Song: Melody Lee

Artist: The Damned

The year is 1979 and The Damned are about to cut their third album after losing the guitar player off of their debut. Captain Sensible, former bassist, moves to guitar to replace the ultra-talented Brian James and a different sound results therefrom. Here, we get into moodier stuff both lyrically and musically, so it's time for a piano melody line with my punk this morning. I've grown to love this song and this album more as the years go by. Off of Machine Gun Etiquette, "Melody Lee."

Fourth time around for Prime Country
This seems like a pretty bad draw for it, though I wouldn't be surprised if simey uses one or both of her picks there.
I don't know much Prime Country (80s-90s) if that is considered mainstream country of those decades. I know the old classic country from the 60s, 70s, and early 80s, because my parents and grandparents played it. I like some of that old country, but it got on my nerves as a youth. From the 80s, I mainly know  Alabama and Kenny Rogers from them crossing over on the radio, and my parents played them. I know only a few mainstream country songs from the 90s, because they were on a jukebox in Florida, and from having to do Country and Western night once a month at a big resort. I never listen to mainstream country music on the radio. I do like alternative country, folk country, Americana, roots rock, country soul, country blues, outlaw country, western swing/jazz, and bluegrass. All of those intertwine with one another.

Some alternative country/americana bands/artists formed in the mid/late 80s, and several formed in the 90s. Also, many artists and bands can fall under various country associated umbrellas. They aren't just one genre of country.  Also, it seems some in here would rather chew glass than listen to country related music.
