Eephus 25,771
 224.8 or 12 - Ivo Papasov / Yuri Yunakov - Filips Kyuchek (Globalization 2)  I was briefly obsessed with Papasov and his Bulgarian Wedding Band around 1990. The band's breakneck runs on clarinet, sax and accordion end up somewhere in the vicinity of Klezmer, Ornette Coleman and cartoon soundtracks. I remember dragging Mrs. Eephus and my friend Earl from Digital Underground to see Papsov play at some Slovenian Hall on a rainy night . We've been to some strange shows over the decades but that may have been the most Caucasian. Like a lot of non-Western artists, Papasov's streaming catalog is haphazard. There's some early, more traditional recordings that aren't as rhythmically interesting and there's this 2005 reunion record with his original sax player Yunakov. Unfortunately, the two excellent albums Papasov recorded in his prime for Joe Boyd's Hannibal label aren't on Spotify. They are on YouTube if you're interested.

simey 8,497
Mom's friend Pat is keeping up the fight! This is the last call for Jimmy Buffett, so this next song is for mom and Pat. My dad used to go to Las Vegas once a year for an IBM convention. Mom usually didn't go with him, but Pat loves to gamble (she claims the medication she takes for restless legs makes her want to gamble), so a couple times they went down with him. Pat's husband went one time, but not the last. Anyway, Pat had all these perks from gambling (she plays the slots). She had the option to use some of her gambling freebees she had collected to see Jimmy Buffett at the MGM if she wanted, and her and mom decided that would be fun. They wanted to learn more of his songs in the weeks leading up to the show, so I made a disc for mom, and one of Pat's kids made a disc for her. Her and Pat made a plan to drink a margarita before the show, and wear some Leis to fit in the with the crowd. Mom bought both of them Leis at the dollar store before leaving for Vegas. In Vegas, they executed their plan, and had a great time. I'm sure Pat couldn't wait to get back to the slots.  I know mom had to be tipsy, because she doesn't drink often, and when she does it is not more than one drink (a wine cooler), because that makes her buzzy. I'm sure a liquor drink really had her buzzin'.  Anyway, this song was written as a parody, and they like to laugh, so it's in honor of their friendship. Round 224 Why Don't We Get Drunk - Jimmy Buffett (Margaritaville)  2

Pip's Invitation 7,581
LAST CALL FOR MARGARITAVILLE (BONUS) Neil doesn't really have the Buffett vibe, but this song has sailing imagery and has some things in common with the more pensive Buffett songs on this playlist, so I think it fits. Through My Sails -- Neil Young This was recorded at an informal 1973 CSNY session (that is indeed C, S and N on harmony vocals), and for whatever reason, Neil decided to put it at the end of one of his loudest albums, following Cortez the Killer, of all things.

Definitely from Canada. Vancouver, B.C., if I'm not mistaken. Boo on the internet if the sites had any indie bent and didn't sort of immediately list them.

He might have made slight overtures at seeming bummed that The Who and The Kinks got tons of love while the Stones had four tracks picked. I'm sure he's fine. I was just gonna say that. If we're resorting to "Original category part 2," without even differentiating it like we did for XMU 2 and International 2, maybe it's time to stop adding things to Dayton for a bit and then see how everyone feels when Dayton is empty or close to it.

I remember hearing this in a hair salon in West Hartford, CT, and thinking, "Boy does Pitchfork ever break bands, just in their own way." Further reach than I thought. Speaking of Pitchfork... eta* KC Accidental was considered for this category by me, but it floated right in and out of my head, frankly.
