300C.k4  Ravi Shankar - Dhun (Live from Monterey Pop Festival)

We needed more Asia, and I earlier promised/threatened more Ravi Shankar.  This is the performance that absolutely blew me away the first time I heard him.  Yeah, it's 19+ minutes long.  Just skip or play around if you must.

I haven't listened to the International Too playlist. My picks were more traditional folk forms but if Monotonix are in play, then I'll bonus in some Japanese Post-Rock with distinct Eastern influences along with some Prog.

MONO - Ashes in the Snow

Krista, if you see Steve Albini again, ask him about this record. I think it's one of his grandest recordings.
Well, honestly I envisioned this first as traditional folk forms, so I appreciate that.  Just to get it going more, I think it's fine that we've expanded and I'd love your Japanese post-rock and other stuff.

Krista, if you see Steve Albini again, ask him about this record. I think it's one of his grandest recordings.
ex-Mr. krista said that Steve thinks this is one of his best recordings by far.  eMk says he met these guys in the studio and saw them play and that it was like listening to the most powerful classical piece you could imagine but with it all amplified.  He said it was amazing.

300D.k4  Gennadi Tumat - Khöömei, sygyt, kargyraa  (Mongolia)

I became fascinated with Tuvan throat music via the documentary Genghis Blues.  No idea if you can even find that anywhere at this point as it was 20 years ago?  Anyway, the doc and the singing were incredible.

That is a new for for me
It is an incredible art form.  Since you posted this, and you're a movie buff too, I just looked to see and Genghis Blues is available for a small amount ($3.99) on some platforms.  I recommend starting there and think you'll be amazed.

I need to post the adopted national anthem of my second home.  The problem is that I can't find a version on Spotify that was recorded by a Nicaraguan artist.  I actually can't find where this guy is from (though he is a Texas A&M prof now), but he does a phenomenal version.  It was written by the Nicaraguan composer Santos Justo and is the preferred song of the real people of Nica.

@KarmaPolice Please add the following songs to the Breakin' Up Is Hard to Do playlist. It has to be you because it's not been made collaborative.

Heartbeat by Childish Gambino

Do Me a Favour by Arctic Monkeys

One Less Set of Footsteps by Jim Croce

Twisting by They Might Be Giants

Drowning by Monster Magnet

Your Sweet Voice by Reindeer Section

ex-Mr. krista said that Steve thinks this is one of his best recordings by far.  eMk says he met these guys in the studio and saw them play and that it was like listening to the most powerful classical piece you could imagine but with it all amplified.  He said it was amazing.
I wonder what Steve Albini thought of Mogwai. He recorded "My Father, My King" by them (I'm trying not to use it for Genrepalooza -- it's seventeen minutes long or so) and Mono and Mogwai travel in the same post-rock circles.

No last chance rolls for the weekend so we'll just do four d1000 for each day

I listened to the Chill mix while cleaning the condo this morning - and still listening. This is normally not in my wheelhouse but discovered that I actually like trip hop during Genrepalozza 1 (?) and really liked this chill playlist. Now I can’t imagine listening exclusively to this but in the right frame of mind it really does make one feel chill (and I’m totally sober right now).

Recommended.

Round 301.xx

Category: WLUV and KSEX-FM

Song: Birthday Sex

Artist: Jeremih

I'll never forget turning on the radio while living in New Haven, CT, and hearing this song. I almost choked on my own laughter when I figured out this was serious. Remember the old SNL R & B skits? Well, SNL never had it so good. I forget what this hit on the charts, but it was ubiquitous.

Round 301 - Strings and Things

Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue

When I was in middle school one of the other students won a radio contest where the first prize was a private concert from Yellowcard (they were huge at the time). When we got to the gym we found that the radio station wasn't going to give us a free concert, it was a Q&A from the violinist from the band who either wasn't told he had to be there, or he was too cool to be talking to middle schoolers. It was so boring, and the guy (I can't remember his name) was very full of himself. Someone asked if he would play something and he refused. The violin was sitting next to him...anyway, this is Ocean Avenue.

@KarmaPolice Please add the following songs to the Breakin' Up Is Hard to Do playlist. It has to be you because it's not been made collaborative.

Heartbeat by Childish Gambino

Do Me a Favour by Arctic Monkeys

One Less Set of Footsteps by Jim Croce

Twisting by They Might Be Giants

Drowning by Monster Magnet

Your Sweet Voice by Reindeer Section
Done.  Thanks

That about befits what I'd imagine a Yellowcard radio appearance to be like.

 to violin guy.
