Round 306

Misfits - The Kinks (3rd try at eel pie)

 There ya go. I have to admit, I didn't know the others were taken besides "Alcohol," which I took for the wrong category back when I hadn't understood the year distinction between Classic Rewind and Classic Vinyl. Although, in looking up cassettes, they were pretty popular in the early '70s, even.

Round 306 - 1800s on 18

Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act 2: No. 12 Divertissement - Trepak - Russian Dance

A personal fave (it's not just a Christmas song in my opinion). I was in a performance of The Nutcracker when I was in kindergarten. The teachers made all the girls be sugarplum fairies, and I refused. I've always preferred the fast songs. I was the only girl who danced with the boys - I don't regret my decision. It makes me wish I had stuck with ballet though...

Round 306

Misfits - The Kinks (3rd try at eel pie)

There have been quite a few Kinks songs drafted from their later years on Arista. Their RCA and Pye recordings are the ones that usually get more play.

The Kinks' Arista records got a lot of play on AOR stations in the '70s and '80s.

More bonuses to get Stevie to 30 songs.

Knocks Me Off My Feet

Last year when I was getting my car registered at the DMV, the clerk who was dealing with my plates started singing this song and couldn't remember the name. He asked me if I knew -- all I could think of at the time was '70s Stevie. "I don't want to bore you with it" is probably an anthemic line for DMV workers.

Pastime Paradise

At this juncture, best known for being the backing track for Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise.

Golden Lady

Breezy '70s music at its best. I have seen Phish, of all bands, cover this (Las Vegas '03).

Smile Please

More breezy '70s music at its best. I have not seen Phish cover this.

Creepin'

You didn't associate chilling, paranoid tunes with Stevie, but he could do those really well too.

True but none of the ten most popular Kinks titles on Spotify come from their time on the label.

Which doesn't mean that the Arista material isn't popular.

Remember, most of us in this thread were teenagers when the Kinks' Arista material was popular. And music that people liked during those years tends to stick with them.

The Arista albums sold well in the USA, much better than their early albums. Album sales weren't driven by singles; "Come Dancing" was their only big hit after 1970.

The Arista albums had a bunch of songs that did well on FM stations. That (plus regular touring) was the engine of their commercial comeback in the US. Come Dancing achieved a different level of popularity because of MTV.

Their late 70s and 80s albums each had a number of gems but it's hard to argue they represent the band's artistic peak. They're certainly less ambitious efforts.

I don't think anyone was arguing that.

I was trying to avoid saying they're kind of mediocre on the whole

Some people do think that, yes. But as you said, they have gems and those are what's been taken.

I did not know this existed. Definitely intrigued.

This is really cool. I guess I shouldn't be surprised she could rock, she was in Clapton's band before the disco thing happened.

I had zero side effects with my first Moderna shot, but yesterday I had my second, and about 12 hours later I felt achy, had chills, and a fever. This morning I felt the same way, but I'm starting to feel better now. 👍

Jon Bon Jovi has always seemed like a good guy to me. He is very generous with his money in regard to charities.

Yes,3 weeks ago. In 3 weeks Michigan has gone from one of the best to the worst for cases- not sure why.

I'm of the opinion that if the Kinks were only an 80s band they'd still be great, but then we have their 60s and 70s output on top of that. Pretty amazing.

Funny but those are also the only two Bon Jovi songs I would ever listen to on my own - but I will disagree that Jon is a tool worthy of contempt. He's actually one of the better people in the industry - he's just a hack musically.

He's still married to the same woman that he was with before he made it big and does a TON of charity work, including owning two restaurants that allow people to pay whatever they can afford (including nothing at all) when they eat there. He is a good dude.

I get my 2nd shot Saturday am.  I have heard stuff like this more times than not, so to be safe I decided to take Sunday off.

Glad you are feeling better!
