Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill

Recommended Posts

Was thinking about this one a while back for Featuring, but saw the combo was already on that playlist so I’ll take it here instead.

RADIO OMEGA

342.YM - Ju$t - Run the Jewels feat. Pharrell Williams and Zach de la Rocha

Pretty sure I took this in the jukebox draft, but I don’t care. Great song.

Man, you better duck out, get the bag and then bug out (uh)
Try to run home, you might run your luck out
'Cause just when your bases loaded
They'll roll a grenade in the dugout (you're out)

OK, jerkfaces.  :lmao:  I found it.  It's Steve Ferrone.

Which reminds me of my joke picks I was going to make today, to take Tom Petty (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Elvis Costello (of Elvis Costello and the Attractions) in "Goin' Solo."  OK, it was funny to me!

Ferrone's one of those guys - like Blue Lou Marini - you always see in the band at RRHOF or Kennedy Center Honors shows. I first heard of him when he replaced Average White Band's original drummer on their (I think) 2nd LP. He was the only one in AWB with skin darker than a 2007 LED lightbulb.

Wait - wasn't he in Ringo's band?

John Parr, the "St. Elmo's Fire" guy.

I considered this for goin' solo before I realized that John Parr and Lou Gramm are in fact, not the same person.

My "Goin' Solo" today was going to be a two-pack of Robert Plant, but I see this one that I wanted is not on Spotify.  I'll find another, but I wanted this logged for posterity (and because it's awesome).

Nice find! Never heard that before and never would've guessed who it was.

Joining the bonus pick party (but doesn’t qualify for the trivia).

BONUS SOLO

Vivrant Thing - Q-Tip

Special girl, real good girl
Biggest thing in my itty bitty world
Called her up and she made me feel right
Wish bliss could never take flight

Is this an actual pick? I'm tired and most of you are drunk and/or high so it's hard to tell what's what at this point.

Not really a pick.

The Beatles?  No.

ok, yeah, he was in an All-Starr.  You and I are the only people who haven’t been.

Off to bed. Spreadsheet and my playlists are updated (yes, all 37 songs from Goin' Solo).

I didn't drink tonight, but that'll change tomorrow when we have our first gathering with neighborhood friends since the fall (outdoors, of course).

Cheers - going with the rum and diet coke  tonight too (with a splash of vanilla, my trade secret).

Rum kinda has a vanilla taste to it doesn't it, or at least spiced rum?

Ok I wanted to add a rap song earlier but didn't because of the vibes. Now I feel like the playlist needs another rap song.

So Low

I actually first heard it on a Sirius channel - Underground Garage, maybe - and really liked it!

Yes, but this extra splash makes it so extra yummy. It’s dangerous because I can make the drink 50/50 rum/coke and not even taste the alcohol.

eta - I only do it with spiced rum

Opener for one of my favorite albums.  I am also getting a hazy memory of a similar category from another draft, and me probably also drafting this song.

META-STATIC RADIO

343.XX:  SUN KIL MOON - GLENN TIPTON

Link

Cassius Clay was hated
More than Sonny Liston
Some like K.K. Downing
More than Glenn Tipton

Some like Jim Nabors
Some Bobby Vinton

One could do a whole playlist of JUST solo tracks from Wu-Tang Clan members.

From a "days since it first became active" perspective, certainly.

From a "after the second roll" perspective, it has competition from Shut Up & Play Yer Guitar (due to that ilov80s bonus game) and I Heart Prog (because prog songs are really f'in long).

In the '80s one of the FM stations I listened to aired a music talk show called Rockline once a week late at night. Henley was the guest when Boys of Summer was pretty new.

Caller: "That line "a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac," do you mean The Grateful Dead?"

Henley: "Yes."

Caller: "Cool." (hangs up)

howdy, all  🤠

i know MoCS spent a majority of his time on these boards interacting with a great deal of those of you who usually populate these music threads (movies, as well).

today is Kentucky Derby Day, and he sure did love all the pageantry  of this first Saturday in May ... he lived a hop away from Churchill Downs, told me he could see the starting gate from his roof.

"My Old Kentucky Home" is played during the post parade prior to the Derby being run  - it's one of the most beautifully melancholic tunes one could hear  - and when played in that setting, well ... it definitely sends a shiver.  always.

so, on this gorgeous Kentucky Derby afternoon, i'd like to drop this dedication to our dearly departed friend we miss so much  - rest easy, Tom ✌

Meta-static Madness!

This would be where I'd choose "Glass Onion," in which John mentions a bunch of their own songs, including "I Am The Walrus," which itself mentions "Lucy in the Sky...".  That's right, meta-meta.  However, someone already took that song!  So I'll start with one of the billion that mention the Beatles instead.

343A.k4  Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes

343B.k4  The Karl Hendricks Trio - Chuck Dukowski Was Confused

I'm sure I had something specific in mind when I suggested the meta-static category - maybe the band in my avatar, probably Certain Songs, which I then drafted for lighters up. Anyway, on some days this is my favourite song ever and I'm always good for some nice Iggy/Stooges references

We go to sleep to "Shake Appeal"

We make love to "Some Weird Sin"

Fall in love to "Down on the Street"

343.NV - The Way We Get By - Spoon - META-Static Radio

Take it!  I'm not planning any other Beatles-y stuff, if it's something like that.

That's my fav Spoon song. Think you recommended 3 albums for me to listen to during the DID draft.
