Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (6 Viewers)

Omg Roscoe!! He was our favorite too! I wanted him to stick around longer. I agree, this series has promising chefs. I still prefer some of the earlier seasons where they had less accomplished chefs, but I think there's a nice balance this time.

I don't think we've seen the fruits challenge yet, but that sounds exciting! I was wondering when they would feature African cuisine on the show since we've only seen a handful of contestants show their talents in previous seasons (Eric from last season sticks out in my mind, I liked him a lot). Let me know how the restuarant is! My brother might be moving out there by the end of the year and I'd love to check it out.

I'm still on the fence on who is my fave so far, but I have been right about who was going to be eliminated for the last two episodes, so I didn't want to get too attached, but I'm sure I'll find another Roscoe in the bunch lol.

I love Melissa! She's up there with on my list too along with Carla Hall, The Voltaggios, Melarky (but that's because he's so chaotic). @Eephusloves Richard Blaise...but I think it's cause of the hair. Melissa lives here in SF and about a month ago I was walking in the neighborhood and she passed me on the street! I recognized her but she was booking it so I didn't get a chance to say hi. I hope I can next time.
I'm with you on Carla and the Voltaggios, but I HATE Melarky!  I get that he's a special taste, though.  :)

I realized later that I really liked the person who left last week, so I wanted to be clear on that before you watched.    I had just told ex-Mr. krista, who is a chef, how much I thought he would like working with him/her, and then he/she was gone!

I love Richard Blais despite the hair, haha

I loved Eric last season, too.  I would have probably run up to Melissa and kissed her, so I admire your holding back.    Maybe it was during COVID, and I guess I wouldn't have then, either.

Top Chef talk! I agree Sara and Gabe look the strongest. I was very happy with the last person eliminated. I was bummed that the chef from Detroit struggled so much. I've heard great things about her but it seemed like the speed of Top Chef wasn't for her. She even commented how long it usually took her to plan and perfect her dishes.
I really liked her a lot.  Would love to have her food!

Bumping this to the new page.

Heading downstairs now to @ditkaburgersflat to catch up on TC so we don't have to worry about chef spotlighting.

I had my mom, her husband, and ex-Mr. k over tonight for a seafood feast (E-mk made oysters, cod, clams, mussels, prawns, and crabcakes, FFS).  As we were waiting for our food on my newly minted outdoor patio, I was playing the "70s on 7" mix, and my mom asked what it was.

So then I had to explain...you know that place where I put my Beatles songs, and then...well, it took a lot of explaining, but somehow I got the idea of the draft through, and that we were 300+ rounds in, and she and her husband were ####### cracking up over it.

Anyway, they had the following suggestions for new channels

Food

Intoxicants

Names (boy/girls)

Songs with clapping

Songs with harmonica

"Working for a living" - songs about jobs/professions

Medical (OK, in their defense, they both worked in the medical fields and might not know there aren't that many songs to choose from?)

The Medium is the Message - songs about television/journalism/newspaper/movies

Transportation

Flowers

Night and day

Mountains/streams/natural beauty

Cool that you got interest and suggestions instead of bemusement or "NERDS!"

We have intoxicants and harmonica in the queue already.

Some of those are really good. "Names" is very cool. Short, sweet, to the point, and doable. "The Medium Is The Message" sounds interesting as heck. That's my favorite. And "Night and Day" I also like.

Job well done by all your guests.

I didn't remember harmonica, but is intoxicants something other than "drugs"?  Their suggestion was "wine" and then we expanded to include other booze.

Also, compliments to the drafters of these two songs on 70s.  They were ones where every single one of us stopped and said, "what the hell is this" in a good way.

Melanie - Look What They've Done to My Song

T. Bolin - Post Toastee

We also oddly liked the Billy Ocean song.

The Jose, Jim & Johnnie Show: Songs about alcohol and drinking

and

Chemistry 101 (Songs about drugs)

Also, this one is similar to one of their suggestions:

Wee Small Hours (songs about the nighttime)

And so might be this one:

Mantra (music with a political/philosophical/spiritual/life message)

Without checking (again), more suggestions from my peanut gallery;

Songs about Outer Space

Songs Under Water

Songs in the Sky

Up/Down stairs:  songs about basements and attics

Scissors XM:  women playing songs about women.

We've got NASA Mission Control (Songs about space, being spacey or taking up space)

The following Velvet Underground songs have been drafted for other playlists:

Beginning to See the Light
Rock and Roll

The following Lou Reed songs have been drafted for other playlists:

Coney Island Baby
Intro/Sweet Jane (live)
The Blue Mask
Vicious
Walk on the Wild Side

This does not include any covers, if there have been any. No non-VU songs from non-Reed members have been drafted.

Since the draft is now over, and it's almost past midnight East Coast and the East Coast day is done, I was thinking it might be okay if I might chime in with some old East Coast boom bap...this song is also about New York City, but general enough to describe any city, really.

@Abrantespicked this album for the D.I. draft. I hope he's okay in Brazil...let's send the bat signal out again and say a prayer or pass along thoughts for him in unsteady times.

Round 343

Bright Lights, Big City - Respiration - Black Star ft. Common
  Brazil is...lordt, a bleepshow, but I'm okay, GBs, I'm okay! Full disclosure, I did catch the 'rona last November (despite feeling I was taking the proper precautions!), which in my case led to headaches, general weariness/joint pain and loss of the senses of smell/taste, but I quarantined at home and maanged to get over it relatively fine. My sense of smell/taste are still not back to 100%, I feel, but other than that, I'm hanging in there.

Alas, my flakin' out on ze drafts has more to do with me being flustered about finishing my thesis paper for my conference interpreting post-grad program, due by the end of June! It'd been ages since I last wrote this sort of thing.

Love y'all! Round 343?! Holy crap, I'll try to catch up on the thread at some point!

I received a text from my neighbor today at 8:43 pm saying could I turn down the music “earlier” because it goes into her bedroom windows.

8:43.

I turned off the music (the highly offensive Flying Burrito Brothers at the time), but sent her a reply saying, “8:43?”

I mean, right?  It’s not blasting, and it’s eight ####### 43.

I purposefully keep the music relatively quiet anyway, just so not to be an #######.  But also, 8:43?

My response was to loudly curse her for at least 30 more minutes, occasionally shouting, “Really, eight-#######-forty-three?”  Maybe not the most mature response but satisfying.

But really, am I wrong here?  If you have some sort of bizarro world issue where you have to be in bed, talk to me?  But otherwise some very moderate sounds of nice country rock might be pleasant?

346.8 - Ben Lee - Catch My Disease  (Antipodes)

I thought I drafted this for Margaritaville but I guess better judgement prevailed against picking a song called "Catch My Disease" during the COVID surge in late 2020.

To put a more positive spin on the selection, I have fond memories of 13-year old @ditkaburgers coming downtown to my office so we could catch a free Friday happy hour concert Lee was playing outdoors on the Embarcadero.
I can't believe I forgot about this song! Shoot! Great choice 😄

Good luck on your thesis. Are you writing in Portuguese or English?

Oof.  I give her mad props for lasting until 8.43!!    ;)

I thought about asking for Anatomy 101 as a channel. Songs or lyrics that mention body parts.

Awesome to hear, Abrantes. Sorry to hear about you catching corona, but it's good you caught a non-fatal case. Hearing that you're okay was all we were hoping for. Keep on keepin' on and best of luck with the thesis paper. Peace.

I had my mom, her husband, and ex-Mr. k over tonight for a seafood feast (E-mk made oysters, cod, clams, mussels, prawns, and crabcakes, FFS).
The night my car got sideswiped, I had just gotten some seafood to go. About once a year I get a craving for this place that makes great fried oysters and flounder, and I love their homemade tartar sauce. When that bad seed hit me, the first thing I thought of was my food is gonna get cold. I turned around though and parked beside him to inspect the damage, and talk to him about hitting me. He decided to be nasty and leave the scene, so I was like #### it, I went home and ate my food, and then went back and called the police.

If he had done major damage to my car, I would have called the cops when he fled. Having some paint scraped off the back side of my 2005 car that already had nicks on it (especially from when I let me nephew drive it for a few months) wasn't a huge deal to me. What bothered me was him being nasty and yelling at me, and leaving the scene of the accident. I want him charged with hit and run, and he probably has no insurance, and I'm not sure if he is the one who owned that truck. The truck is registered to a town that is a couple hours away, and the officer showed me a picture of the person it is registered to, and it is 50/50 that it is the dude that hit me. The officer said it is a he said she said. There was a guy sitting outside the barber shop that saw the whole thing, and I told the police that, but he didn't question him. Weird. The barber shop guy was nice, and I talked to him while waiting for the police.  Anyway, there is a detective checking it out, but I have low expectations of them catching the bandit. I get an estimate on the damage to the car tomorrow. I don't even care about doing that, but I felt like I needed to contact my insurance company since I called the police, and they wanted me to have it done. The good thing about all of this is that the oysters and flounder were delicious, and it was still warm when I ate it. 👍

"I've been in a hit and run. Don't want my food to get cold!" 😂

Also simey, I really hope they get him, but I think you already know they won't. Too bad it wasn't Burger King. That axxxxle would be in trouble.

If you get hit by another driver in Detroit it's pretty much expected that they will either keep going or jump out and run. Over 50% of Detroiters drive with no liscense, insurance or neither. Throw in another 10% or so that have a warrant out on them or that the car was stolen. I'd actually be more worried if the driver that hit me didn't flee- might get shot at or car jacked.

I want to feature a musician. An amazing fascinating incredible musician. Maybe the greatest musician you've never heard of despite him touring at an early age with an easily recognizable rock band. Maybe the greatest modern musician to ever live. Some think he is. But wrapping my small brain around what to share to do him justice and knowing how tl/drs get scrolled, I hesitate. Interested? It would include a fusion pick.

This crossed my mine when I got out of the car to approach him. When he got all animated at me, and screaming in Spanish I was thinking that this ain't going well. I took a picture of him coming out of the Latino place, and he instantly put his face down until he got to me again. I confronted him again and showed him the damage, but I was careful to not be aggressive. There are cartels around the area. The interstate's around NC make it easy for trafficking drugs and people. A few weeks ago about 25 miles from here, a high school teacher and his BIL thought it would be a good idea to rob a house that they were told had cartel drug money and drugs in it. BIL got shot, teacher got shot and killed, and a cartel member got shot and killed. I can't imagine how a person would think it is a good idea to rob a cartel stash house.

Wow, scary. Enjoying your warm seafood is sounding like a better idea now. The first time you mentioned this, his aggressive behavior sounded disturbing. In the above context - better you than me. I'm sure I would have been very confrontational if he tried to drive away, and a 911 call would have been instant. I am dumb enough to even follow someone like that. Glad you chose the funny option of eating before calling. K4 has her work cut out for her to get a better laugh today.

Suspect  He was looking right at me when I raised my camera, but then put his head down. I thought I had got him looking up, but I guess the camera delayed. He wasn't a warm fuzzy person. Maybe he didn't want his food to get cold too.
