Round 366.xx

Category: This Is The End

Song: Only In Dreams

Artist: Weezer

There is tons of post rock to choose from, but I'm saving some for that category. This ends on a sick, sick Rivers guitar solo. Play it! This should have gone in guitar hero, actually. I can hear the notes in my head.

I am kind of stuck in alternative R&B world of echoey, feedback atmospheric close outs.

I would have gone with some abrupt or distorted endings from the rap world, but decided to go rock for the category at first. I can see where R & B would give you that.

Damn, a rap song just came into my head that ends with a spoken word segment/rhyme/a capella and straight rips. I used to wish I could rap like the guy I have in mind did. Sick. Keep it in mind for next time.

Round 366

Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - The Rolling Stones (This Is The End)

this was one of the “chalk” picks I mentioned. Although I do like the first half better - but the Coda is kind of cool as well.

I think @simey was thinking of the other one I was thinking of in her comment before about ending the mix.

This song was taken for Saxy Time by that weasel. I was thinking of the other one if we're thinking of the same one.

Really? I actually checked the spreadsheet today and didn’t see it. I suck.

There's some real "chalk" for This Is The End that I'm trying to avoid for now.

I took perhaps the chalkiest chalk for it for Guitar Hero.

If we are thinking of the same thing, a particular song would be great to end the playlist on.

If it comes up, I can make it so when all is said and done. I already have such plans for Strings and Things.

Does Todd Rundgren need to be removed from the Hall of Pretty Good playlist?

Reaction by Binky and me

I can take him off that one and put him on HoF.

I was going to draft Carole King for Hall of Very Good since she wasn't in as a performer, but this nixes that idea.

I listened to Lilith Fair while running some errands this morning. Somewhere along the line, I must have switched over to playlist radio because I started getting the occasional male artist popping in.  Since that's one of my playlists, I was wondering how I could have fumbled the handoff multiple times but it's Spotify's fault as usual.

A trio of birds of a feather (sort of) to bid farewell to Lilith

366.8 - Fairport Convention - Who Knows Where the Time Goes?

366.12 - Beth Orton - Someone's Daughter

366.128 - Lucy Rose - Shiver

Three English singer-songwriters born generations apart: Sandy Denny (b.1947), Orton (b.1970) and Rose (b.1989).  They draw upon the English Folk tradition which sounds different from American artists who look toward the Appalachians or Laurel Canyon for their inspiration.

The first dozen or so I thought of were drafted already. This was probably taken too but I didn't see it.

The Doors- The End

All good on the pick. You didn't pick in round 365 yet, though. 😆

As it so happens, I was planning to take this song this evening anyway, so this is perfect timing.

Round 366:

This Is the End

Chain Letter -- Todd Rundgren

The outro to this is just majestic. Particularly cool is that there's a line in the last verse, "For you see it's really twice this long," which, because of the extended outro, occurs at almost the midpoint of the song.

Rundgren and Preston officially moved from Hall of Very Good to R&R Hall of Fame.

I still get this logged as my Beatles-related pick for Hall of Very Good, though, right?  You don't want me delving into other realms.

Sure. At this rate, in 20 years or so, R&R HOF will have a squillion songs and Hall of Very Good will have like 5.

There's some real "chalk" for This Is The End that I'm trying to avoid for now.

I took perhaps the chalkiest chalk for it for Guitar Hero.

I thought "The End" by the Beatles could be chalky, what with that last line and all.  (Taken in whichever the "Beat" playlists was that involved drummers.)

And yet Big Star will still be on the outside looking in, somehow.

Three fine torch bearers for the new era of Lillith Fair. The last two haven't been drafted yet and I'm here to tell you that 'Yellow...' is actually the best Soccer Mommy song, not the two better know ones.

Bonus.NV - Yellow is the Color of Her Eyes - Soccer Mommy - Lillith Fair

Bonus.NV - Bags - Clairo - Lillith Fair

Bonus.NV - Twentytwo - Sunflower Bean - Lillith Fair

BONUS LILITHS BEFORE THE FAIR IS OVER

32 Flavors -- Alana Davis

She had a hit with this Ani DeFranco song in the late '90s.

When We Sing Together -- Victoria WIlliams

Appeared on the second stage at the first Lilith Fair. Presumably you all know the story of the Sweet Relief benefit album.

I Wish I Was the Moon -- Neko Case

Her only appearance as a solo artist in this draft is with a cover. That needs to change.

I will never not associate this song with Beavis and Butthead as long as I live.  Link

Three channels get promoted because my roll sheet still had two entries for Tripping Balls. 3/8ths chance to advance is the best odds they'll ever see

366.k4 Radiohead - Exit Music (For A Film)  (endings)

This song holds a special place in my heart.  My friend Doug, whom I've mentioned in this thread and other music/movie threads, spent years trying to master a piano version of this.  Finally about four(?) years ago he finished it and sent to me, and it was glorious.  I felt so happy to hear him playing this after all those years, and after I'd moved away and not seen him in ages.

I think Radiohead was taken in this category already but too bad.

By the way, "Lilith" with one "l" in the middle.
