Sweet Home Alabama -- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Well I heard ol' Neil put her down
Well I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don't need him around anyhow

BONUS SECOND WAVE BEFORE IT CRASHES

Being Simple -- The Judybats

I first heard, and fell in love with, this song before it was released, completely by accident. They were playing a small club in the Philly suburbs in early 1993 and one of my friends kept asking me to go with him. Having heard a couple of songs from their second album on WXPN without being turned off, I agreed. I figured we were in for a night of pleasant folk rock, and we were, at first. Then they started playing their new songs. Some of them were bumpin'! And this one was incredibly gorgeous. I started raving about it as soon as the show was over. And sure enough, their third album was released a few months later, with this as the lead single. After that, I caught them on a couple of their return trips to Philly because they put on such a fun show. Unfortunately they broke up a few months after they released their fourth album the following year.

The "by accident" part is that many years later, my friend told me the reason he wanted me to come to the show was because some girl he was into was going to be there, and he wanted a wingman with him. But he got so into the performance that he completely forgot that girl was there.

Grrrrls Grrrls Grrrls (Women Who Rock) - LAST CHANCE

Round 379:

How Bizarre

Rapid Transit -- Neil Young and Crazy Horse

Neil's 1981 album Re*ac*tor sounds like nothing else in his catalog. It mainly consists of songs that are repetitive and full of staccato beats. There are two reasons for this. One is he was influenced by Devo, whom he had worked with on the Human Highway movie. The other is that this was a way to convey the ordeal he was going through with his son Ben, who has severe cerebral palsy. At the time, the program Neil and wife Pegi were using with Ben was a grueling endeavor requiring long sessions of repetitive movements. It was exhausting, and the format and its effects are reflected in some of the songs. Two of them are downright bizarre. I'll spare you the 9-minute one about mashed potatoes and T-Bones, so here is the other one.

I guess I'll take my Grrls x 3 picks too

380.1 - Bettie Serveert - Kid's Allright  (Grrls)

Draft needs more Dutch bands

380.2 - Rachel Sweet - New Rose (Grrls)

Teenager from Akron who had her fifteen minutes of fame recording for Stiff Records in Punk-era England and went on to do the theme song for Clarissa Explains It All.

380.3 - Amyl and the Sniffers - Some Mutts (Can't Be Muzzled) (Grrls)

You got a new dog, do you remember me?
She walks around on my old lead
You got a new dog, do you remember me?
Is she just as good as me?

Does it matter for this is it was written just for the movie, or can it be a song that was used famously in a movie?  Ie - my Sister Christian pick.

Figure if k4 comes back tomorrow, maybe I can jump in?

Round 378 - Meta - STATIC - Punk Guy - NOFX

Crazier than G.G.
More P.C. than Ian
Got colored teeth like Johnny
Exudes a Vicious disposition
His hair stick out like Colin's then he jumps
Similar to Springa, he points his middle finger...

He was the punkest mother####er I ever did see
Aw, hell, he was even more punk than me

He should have been on the cover
He should have been on the cover
He should have been on the cover of Punk and Disorderly

Round 379 - Grrrls - Riding On The Rocket - Shonen Knife

Round 380 - How Bizarre - Threw It On The Ground - Lonely Island

Who would have known how prophetic this would be in 2021? The production is actually a lot like El-P's and the paranoia is a send-up, too.

If this is too comedic vs. bizarre, I'll re-pick. Tons of skate and surf songs out there. I always just found this a riotous send-up when it first came out.

How are you feeling?

And @woodstock, who liked your post, how is your friend rockaction feeling?
Hey Pip, Rock's doing fine. Thanks for asking. He got a bit of a haircut and is scared to show his face. Bangs are all gone on that boy and it looks like his Momma put a soup bowl on her forehead and then his. Anyway, he'll probably be around tonight, or tmrw he'll be around. It wasn't that bad of a clip, I told him. I lied.

Doing fine!  Thanks for asking.  Yesterday was my first day of freedom from quarantine, and I overdid it a bit.  :hangover:   Tomorrow I get my second jab, which I understand can be more difficult if you've had COVID, so could have a bad day or two after that.

Awesome news. That's really, really good to hear.

GRRRLSAPALOOZA

Watch Your Step -- Girlschool

A rare all-female metal band from the '80s. I wanted to take them for Stonehenge but their first material didn't come out until 1980. They were friends with Motorhead and this track certainly shows it.

Beckons Wanted -- Dryer

From the "drafting my friends' bands" pile. My high school buddy is the drummer, half the songs are sung by the female bassist. They released three indie-label albums between the mid '90s and early '00s and were scouted by a major label who thought they could be the next Veruca Salt, but the band wouldn't agree to the condition that the bassist do all the singing.

Sari -- Nellie McKay

This song doesn't rock per se, but it's got tons of attitude, as does much of her stuff.

I got my phone back today, it stopped working Monday morning. I drank with a buddy Sunday night but don't recall doing anything major to break it but assumed just some sort of small drop or wetness but it's supposed to be waterproof/submersible anyway. Long story short, Samsung repaired it no charge under warranty.

So that's a win, and vaccine #1 is a win and also with the NHL season officially over today, I won the FFA Fantasy Hockey pool for the year and me and JZilla won the Uber league overall title (4 sport Fantasy league).

Lots of wins! Tomorrow the Leafs playoffs start too and Mrs. NV took Friday off, so we have a 4 day weekend together.
