Was that the time I almost dropped Alice (my doll) and Dolly (my other doll) through the port hole of the boat?

Alice and Dolly probably protected you more than your father.   😀

I think the Alice and Dolly escapade was at Hyde St. Pier.

Everyone made it home intact.  Good times.

395.8 or 12 - The Veils -  Low Lays the Devil (Radio Omega)

You know I couldn't make it through 400 rounds without drafting The Veils.

I'll forever associate this album with the 2016 election. We were going to see the Veils the day after the election so I was listening to their new stuff a lot in the run up. It's fittingly a dark and foreboding record with a murky sound thanks to new producer El-P.

It's going on five years without new material from the band. Finn Andrews has released solo material that Spotify crosslinks to the Veils. If that's their career it's six albums over a dozen years which is a pretty good run nowadays.

That Lenny Kravitz thread is as triggering as anything I've seen in the Political Forum

I've hit "respond" about 6 different times, but thought better of it.

Ran into some Lyndon LaRouchers on my walk about town today. Can't believe those people are still at it. Maybe that or my mostly self imposed exile from the bad place on here has me leaning into the political songs today. I've done a modern electronic rock and a rap song. I'll probably double back with some punk and folk.

Mo' Politico

Rd BONUS 1: UK 82 by The Exploited

I am not entirely sure if I know what it's about and I don't know if they do either, but it's definitely angry about the UK in 82 and it spawned a dark angry punk scene in Britain. Seems very 2020 with themes of anti-immigrant, British politicians giving away the land and ruining it, anti-Americans and Russian friendly.

Mo' Mo' Politico

Rd BONUS 2: Tear The Fascists Down by Woody Guthrie

No confusion on what this is about

When I think of the men and the ships going down
While the Russians fight on across the Don
There's London in ruins and Paris in chains
Good people, what are we waiting on?
Good people, what are we waiting on?

Round 396.xx

Category: The Beeb

Song: 10 Dollar

Artist: M.I.A.

It's supposed to take the piss out of prostitution and young girls, but I just wind up dancing and singing the refrain unironically. Oh well. Maybe dance music isn't quite the place for nuance.

My mom is finally home!  They think the cancer had only spread to two lymph nodes (which they removed), so it is good news so far!  Full pathology report will come out next week.

I had no idea this existed. Not three people I'd expect to sing together (well two would definitely) but it works like a charm.

Same here on every level. It was a nice find.

Bonus Lat Chance Omega

Heartbeat - Pat DiNizio (Radio Omega)

the former Smithereen lived in next town over and he would play with “the Scothplainsmen” for free at parks often. I saw him a few months before he passed. His last album was all Buddy Holly covers.

Round 396:

The Beeb

Blowin' Free -- Wishbone Ash

I thought about this one before Christmas for one of the Rewind/Vinyl channels. I remember listening to it on one of Louis' walks and looking at a holiday shop window on Hayes.

What a long strange trip it's been.

Beeb picks the first two rolls: 9

Beeb picks this roll: 15

😆

I’m boycotting it because it should have been a Justin Bieber playlist. He’s the Lenny Kravitz of our time.

I couldn't resist.  I was looking at this album anyway, but in honor of the the Friday night rolls, and @krista4's probable reaction to them...

RADIO OMEGA

Late period Sonic Youth is usually an interesting listen. They managed to stay true to their original sound while branching off in a bunch of different directions.

It doesn't seem likely that they'll ever get back together though.

:lmao:  I  the non-sax horns category and might even have been the one to suggest it?  Be prepared for an onslaught of Memphis Horns tomorrow.

I really did like their late run, and for reasons in the bolded.

I also  really struggled with this category, as it seems I don't love a lot of band's last output.

BONUS RADIO OMEGA BEFORE IT OMEGAS OUT OF EXISTENCE

Heartbreaker -- Free

I mentioned earlier how much I love their final album, so here's the title track. Also describes krista when she saw tomorrow's rolls. 😆

Badge -- Cream

You know that's it when the final album is called "Goodbye."

Good Times -- The Stone Roses

It was not good times for them, as they broke up after only two albums. There were a couple of singles more than 20 years later, but no more albums.

Town Called Malice -- The Jam

The Gift gets slagged by some first wave fans because it was so different from their previous work, but I find it a fascinating bridge between the Jam and the Style Council, and most of the songs are really well-executed, especially this, one of their UK No. 1's.

This list has a very Beeb theme to it, which wasn't intentional but I guess is appropriate.

Bonus Omega

Oasis - I'm Outta Time

If you'd asked me in 2008 if they'd get back together by 2021 I would have emphatically said yes but it seems less likely with the passing of time.  They could write their own check to headline Glastonbury but the Gallaghers would probably finish their set by wrestling on stage.

Their final album Dig Out Your Soul is a fine effort with classic Oasis songs including this one written by Liam. It hints at their post-band future where Liam has outshone Noel in my opinion.  This song is Beatlesque to the max including a recording of John Lennon's voice.

I can't even count how many times I was like -- yes, this would be great! -- followed by -- damn, that pesky reunion album.
