Nor I, actually. I didn't have my finger on the pulse of the PJ love here. They've honestly never been a favorite of mine. I have a lot of respect for them and certainly did my time with Ten, though. I remember they opened for the Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chili Peppers in late '91 at the Springfield Civic Center in Massachusetts. Eddie Vedder announced to the crowd that it was fitting nobody was there for them because he thought they had maxed out their fame, anyway. Whoops. By the time they had put out their later albums, I was fully back into the punk of my youth and regarded them as sort of an anomaly with their popularity and fame. The slower tempo music and baritone vocals didn't do me it for and I wondered what everyone else saw in it. Edited December 2, 2020 by rockaction

Toots & the Maytals) - Let Down Most covers of RH songs are a bit off the mark for me, but this one is something else. I should preface this by saying Toots Hibbert is one of my favorite vocalists of all time--regardless of genre. And in my estimation this is one of his best studio performances. the dissonance between the bouncy, head-bob inducing beat and crushing lyrics about urban ennui and alienation works. and there's boost of hope in Toots' delivery. This is one of my favorite RH songs as well, and the final verse climax is the rug that ties the room together in each. In this version, Toots lays it all out. I was convinced I knew the melody line of his vocals and didn't realize it was a Radiohead cover, even though I read your post and was confused what "RH" meant. Ah, now I see. So then... On the plus side, you realize how good OK Computer is when it can completely cross genres and still sound so compelling and immediate. But something about how they handled the Ticketmaster situation rubbed me the wrong way (not that TM was blameless either), and parts of Vitalogy and pretty much all of No Code seemed like deliberate attempts to repudiate what made them great in the first place. So by the late 90s there were no longer front-and-center for me, though I liked Yield. Then Binaural came out and I thought it was mostly hot garbage, and they became even less of a priority. I did devote more attention to them in '03 after someone gave me a ticket to see them live for the first time. The show was amazing and Eddie was funny and affable (and probably a little drunk), the exact opposite of the persona he adopted in the '90s that I had grown so annoyed with. I went twice more in 2006, though as much because My Morning Jacket was opening. I thought Riot Act and the self-titled album were OK, but in retrospect their main attributes are that they are better than Binaural, which is a low bar to clear. Then I met my wife and a lot of things fell by the wayside pop culture-wise, PJ being one of them.

Neil's new material since 2012 has been so blah that I just check a couple times a year to see what stuff he has released (new or archival) since I last obtained anything. I don't follow/participate in any Neil forums or seek out Neil news in real time. I was a little more up to date when I was doing the countdown because I would come across stuff when I was preparing my writeups, but that's an anomaly for me in recent years. If he says anything odd about pre-2013 Neil, you can tell him I said he committed heresy. 😆

rockaction 23,050
I'm not getting a top five either, and I have Premium. I am getting a missed hits of 2020 list, which are songs that I have been pegged by the algorithm to like. Songs? First up is BALD! - JPEGMANIA. Pretty cool glitch-pop sample or something. Not bad. Action Bronson is second with Latin Grammys. I was never able to get into White Ghostface. Great sample, boring lyrics. Third up is Black Thought. Thought vs. Everybody. I indeed like this, but who couldn't have predicted that. Four is Sins Of The Father by Ra, Roc Marci. I think they thing I like vocal samples and Wu Tang. I do, but it's not a top four song or even close, really. Five is Dangerookipawa Freestyle by Ab-Soul. Holy #### they got it! Never heard it, would have missed it. Love it. So I guess Rock Action fails me as a name. I didn't realize I was Rap Action. Edited December 2, 2020 by rockaction

Would seem appropriate that Seger would catch top billing in name alone even though the band really takes center stage here, IMO. Me First and the Gimmes Gimmes. Still love that send-up every time I see a ____ and the _____ Seger headlined a few bands around Detroit and Ann Arbor before the Silver Bullet Band. The Bob Seger System was a big one, he also did shows just as Bob Seger. He was a known musical commodity in SE Mich long before he has 70s radio breakout. He even started out doing shows as small as Homecoming dances for high schools when he was really young.

I'm probably sucked into a place, time, similarity/dissimilar vortex here, but I hear Debbie Harry's influence in this. Or is that the other way around? 🤔 eta* My YouTuve algorithm, seeing as how we're discussing algos, skipped directly to Television's "See No Evil" as the next song, with the whole of Marquee Moon in tow. Not a bad 1-2 punch. Edited December 2, 2020 by rockaction
